Yes I know its the law, it has always been the law, but only now am I hearing that its being cracked down on, now that there is a full bar on site. Personally, it bums me out cause I cannot afford $5-7 per beer or mixed drink. Hope I do not offend anyone with this poll, just curious because I know a LOT of us do bring flasks with us, or used to bring flasks with us I should say  :-[

Yeah I think it is going set a different vibe for me.... not sure how I like the idea of a full bar yet.

My questions are:

Am I now going to get constantly hassled with 'we need to inspect your flask' questions simply because it is a part of my garb?

Where exactly is this bar?  Or are they serving hard liquor at all the pubs now?  Am I going to have to walk a mile just to get a mixed drink?

Is what they serve you worth the price?  As in are you getting your monies worth on the cup size and liquor choice?  All well or premium?  I sure don't want to pay premium prices for cheap stuff.

If they have Cruzan Vanilla Rum, Crown Black and Grey Goose (mmmmm martini's) I may just become a fan of the bar lol!  Who knows...


 

From what Ive heard, if you have it on your belt or somewhere else open they will inspect it at the gate (although I dont see how they can without it taking 2 hours for you to get through the line)

The bar is at the Rose and Crown pub, I was going to the Scotch tasting so I only bought my lady a drink, Jack and Rc was $7 but was kinda smallish glass but was pretty strong.

There was a pretty good selection of booze but the actual bar area is only has about 6 stools and it was a little cramped and crowded for my taste

I don't really care A flask isn't part of my grab and this isn't the first crack down they've had a couple of years ago they also had a crack down.  Discrestion is the key keep it out and undercover and this too should pass

Bonny, as JM said, the bar is the Rose and Crown. (Near where you got your hair braided). Not a bad joint. I sat at the bar last Sat waiting for the Scotch Tasting Tix to arrive. Looked like a good mix of libations and not just "house crap" sort of stuff. $7 seems a smidge pricey to me, but I only had 1 and it was a decent cocktail so no complaints.

I'm sad at the hyped inspection but honestly, beer is my preferred libation anyway so I just leave my flasks in the car now. I could discreetly get them in, I'm sure, but I'd just as soon have a beer anyway and beer in a flask is not a good idea!

I supsect if I put my flasks back on my belt in public view, they will be empty and just for show. Which is what they usually are anyway, but I went to special trouble this year to fill them in a fashion that I could remember what the heck was in what!  ;)

When we travel I rarely if ever take flasks anyway. That is way too much trouble, even for bling.

Flasks are a part of my faire garb. Depending on the day I have carried as many as 7 into faire. As of yet I have never been hassled.
One of my favorite things to do is share my loki (there is usually one rum flask for those who are wondering).
I don't see that it should be a big deal. What I share certainly isn't enough to get someone drunk nor is it enough to make the choose not to buy a drink somewhere. I also buy several drinks myself, soda for mixing, beer etc.
I tried to go to the full bar but it was to crowded the first time. I will try again closing.
I think RichardBear said it right, discretion is the key. Stand in front of security and drink from it and problems will likely come.

I'm guessing that the crackdown is because of one — or a combination or — two things: 1) With the new mixed drink permit, they are being scrutinized by the state beverage board to ensure compliance with all of the regulations regarding same; 2) Blatant abuse.  I've not witnessed the latter, but I'm not down there as often as many of you, so I can't say.  But I am familiar with the effects of the former, having seen it on numerous occasions in my hometown.

If there have been violations, either by the facility or by the customers, our beverage board will keep a very close eye on the comings-and-goings. They also are watchful on new facilities, especially those that are private club type, as Scarborough is.

I enjoy a good slug as much as the next wizard, but it would seem prudent to comply and not fight it until the newness wears off, and things ease up. It has been my experience that it does ease up after a time.

*walking into faire without me rum just seems... wrong*

On the average, I get offered to take a slug from someone's flask at least three (3) times a day.

I hate to appear ignorant, but it's a cross I have to bear — in the poll options, what is meant by "potato?"

I find that I've lost touch with much of the slangs of modern pop-culture since I do not watch that magic device you call a "television."

I was also wondering about the potato option. But since the law as it is has been the law for a long time, we were always aware that openly carrying visible flasks was an invitation to trouble.

Your Majesty, I may have to smuggle in a flask once just to make you an offer.  :o

I dont know why I put Potato as an option, was just in kinda a weird mood when I made the poll. I was kinda halfway between the bummed option and the potato option at the time. guess it can mean none of the above, kinda throws off the polls numbers, but I was trying to keep a sense of humor about the topic as I always try to  ;D

Well, dang...and here I was trying to discern the deep, dark philosophical roots of the option. But, it makes me feel better. I was in my forties before I knew that "bad" was good.  ... and weird is good too, btw...

As far as Potato goes, I'm goin' with an old George Carlin bit by making potato to mean (Kill).

You'd be surpised what we use our flask for. Apple Juice! Davens is diabetic and having apple juice immediately available rather than waiting in line when his blood sugar is 52 only to be told that we'd have to go to a different stand because that stand is out of the high sugar drinks is not an option!

How would this affect us? I'm curious because he has to have something with sugar (especially since the extra walking around at faires does a toll on the blood sugar levels.)

I think you'd be fine, Jade. If questioned it's a non-alcoholic drink and you have it for a pretty good reason. Of course, the best answer for you is to call the office and ask. Worst case is just smuggle it in.  ::)

Thankyou! I just wanted to be sure. It's always a surprise when people find out that there's not any alcohol in the flask.

Not to be overly negative, but apple juice is still a beverage, and they dont like anyone bringing their own, alcoholic or not (Im not saying you dont have a good reason to carry it though, gotta keep that sugar balanced). I kinda wanna make a suit of armor out of flasks (yeah, I'm a smartass, but a lazy smartass, so there is nil chance that I actually will  :D). So far its about even with the dont cares and the negative feelings, about what I expected.

actually, I know a couple who have diabetes as well as several food sensitivies and dietary restrictions, they've been able to take a small cooler in with their own food & non-alcoholic beverages for years

True, I think special needs should be allowed acception to the rule, it would be bad publicity to have some one keel over from a food allergy at faire  :o   Oh well, they cant tell if Im smuggling it in, in my gut   ;D

Yeah...hopefully they won't bring in the TSA. I gave up flying because of them—I won't give up faire...they'd be in for a fight.   >:(

Exceptions would have to be made for those with special needs, otherwise the faire would be in violation of federal law. I think it would fall under the A.D.A. (Americans with Disabilities Act). 

Teach, you are in luck.  You should be able to get your rum in as a medical necessity.

I've always wanted a flask ever since I was younger. But since I'm not a huge drinker, I have thought about putting Gatorade in it! lol... Now I know it can work out! :)
