All right you Foodies out there! There's a new purchase available at the Gift Shoppe or online:
Cooking With Characters: The Scarborough Academy of the Performing Arts Cookbook
If you love to cook, you love collecting recipe books, or you just want to help your favorite non-profit Performing Company continue to improve their skills and working conditions, please consider purchasing this book. The price is $15.00 and the cause is a worthwhile one.
The vast majority of SAPA members are volunteers, folks. They provide their own costuming, their own food, and a lot of time (16 weekends every year, from 8 a.m. til 7 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday). They do their own research, develop their curriculum, and spend a lot of time helping to support the magic of Our Sandbox. It really is the hardest job that anyone will ever love.
And as I said, THEY DON'T GET PAID. The faire doesn't pay most of them, doesn't feed any of them, and those thousands of dollars in costuming are all spent without reimbursement for most of the actors.
There are hopes that enough money is raised to improve the Keep area a bit more this coming year, and give them somewhere to rest and keep their things during the faire day that is secure and a bit more comfortable than what is there now. These folks work hard, everyone, so please help out by giving them somewhere to sit for five minutes that is cool / warm, dry, and secure.
The Festival does not get the funds from this. SAPA is a registered non-profit, and on top of what they do during the faire day, the members also do as much educational outreach as they can, visiting schools and clubs to talk about the Tudor era.
Check out the cookbook and if you like it, pick one up! (I have two recipes in there, myself. *grin*)
Thanks, all!

Yeah, but are they any good? ;) I'll be picking one [cookbook] up. My interest in eating has risen since I quit smoking. I hope there are some no-cal recipes in there.
Huzzah! I'll be picking up at least one copy!
I'm always open to new cookbooks. I am foodia maxima.
I picked up my copy this past weekend. I didn't realize the book was hardcover - very nice!
I got my copy too! Haven't looked at it yet though, still recovering from this weekend!
I can't vouch for the recipes, but I can for sure vouch for the talents of some of the contributors!

Gaven, we're only interested in the recipes.
Those talents are for another thread. ::)
My recipe book came in the mail. Thank you to whoever donated their shoe box for shipping. ;D
There are some recipes in there that I haven't seen before; quite a few look very interesting.
