Title: New year, new job
Post by: Random Girl on May 16, 2011, 06:10:58 PM
Well kids, thanks to some bullcarp politics I will no longer be a night crew safety services member.

But never fear as day crew is more than happy to have me.

What this means for you: I can get dr0nks with you all afterhours, Jell-O shots will have to be consumed in the PM instead of the AM, and you will likely see me more.

This also means I will be dressed in the dreaded ketchup and mustard.

Anyone else have something new going on this year?

I'm sorry you don't get to work night crew!  But yay that you still get to be out there and play with us!

Not sure what I have that's new this year.  I do so love living on the edge.   ::)

What?!?!?  So that means no more Nes sauntering up to the shop in a big black bathrobe, smoking a cig, swearing up a storm and drinking Mimosas with us?  Dang it, that was fun!  And what a sight to behold!  But hey, daytime playtime could be fun, too!

I reserve the right to laugh at you at least once (possibly two or three times) while you are wearing the ketchup and mustard...  :D Oh Oh, and take pictures, lots and lots of pictures!!  ;)

Sorry you won't be doing nights anymore, but YAY for getting to see more of you and having some play time with everyone after hours!!!

I'm glad you will still be out there!  I haven't heard yet if I will be asked back (leaning towards the "not gonna happen") but ya never know  :D

Muffin - pictures are fine since I never thought there would be a day where I'd wear the red and yellow so I think I want some photographic evidence.  Besides Megan and I have some epic plans for costuming...should be interesting.

Fae-  I should be taking at least one day off this year and while I no longer have access to the big black bathrobe I will see what i can do to be equally scandalous.

Andy- CKC is ALWAYS hiring.

honestly there isn't much more than that to show.  All I've completed is the tube top, sleeves and dance vest.  We still have skirts, harem pants and the ghawazee coat to complete.

Speaking of which.  Does anyone have about 4 yards of loud macleod lightweight (cotton would be best) that they would be willing to part with?  I have ugly harem pants to make.

So I had this funny idea that it was rude to give back tips, and since I was otherwise unpaid I took them.

This came to the light of management and well, I was told in no uncertain terms that I would not be allowed to continue this practice.

I basically argued and said that if I was going to be denied that because of my age *don't know if it was years performing or if he thought I was physically too young* then I was going to quit the next day. There were far more words in the middle, but that was the jist of it.

The next morning he did appoligize and give me what I wanted, but after having that arguement I am not sure I am on the list of good performers. I am not the best listener as to me, entertaining was more important than making it to the front gate to look good for the owner. And well the red shirts had the worst time getting me where they wanted me, so yeah...

Load of bollocks on they're end, imo. They need to be taught a lesson.....*sigh*

Eh, I admit that I am not easy to work with, I am pretty demanding and need to know why I am about to do something. The only people I don't ask why to are my closest friends.

But yeah, it was ridiculous, especially the age thing... what do they think I am 15?

ummm...so I was informed today that if I wasn't told already that I would not be back I should expect my contract in the mail shortly.  So now it looks like I could be on cast again....will keep you all posted  :)

I heard that too. So I am a bit more hopeful, maybe they forgot last year?

*though I also heard was they hadn't gotten to individuals yet...*

But Auntiegigles we should definately hold onto some hope.

Yay!   Ladies, perhaps a good tantrum of sorts was in order last year!!!!   Sometimes the truth hurts, but needed to be told.

Let us know asap!!!

@Kiss-Me-kate - It will be a few weeks before we hear for sure.
@Jewel - it is possible they haven't determined individuals yet....but Deb in Marketing has said anybody not coming back would know by now.  I don't know if this matters any but I did receive the email about the preview day at MOA...Maybe everybody received it regardless if they were being invited back...not really sure.

@Amy - the marketing emails go out to everyone on the listserv, so that's not always a good indication of status an MNRF. I was told the contracts will be coming out in the next couple of weeks, and that people not being offered a contract were already notified.

Yes, everyone received that email. They want us to continue to help promote the festival even if we are not being invited back, and the "points" we earned may not be redeemable for comp tix or anything else.

My group (Terpsichory) was invited back on a volunteer contract as opposed to a paying contract we've had in the past. We found out about this on about June 10. So while we knew by the 16th... just frickin' barely.
