All 3 days... opening cannon all 3 days, Saturday may be a short day to get my bestie's little one to his aunt so we can enjoy a full day on Sunday without chasing a 4-year-old, Sunday will probably be until at least close to pubsing, and Monday they'll likely have to shove me out the gates after Parting Glass... On the other hand, if my bestie doesn't make it, well, it will likely be a longer day on Saturday as well.

All chances to be there for even a part of the weekend have been dashed. Nim is down sick with a bad case of bronchitis.

Tell Nim that I'm thinking about her. Lots of recliner camping helps with the breathing and stuff.

Thanks, Doña. It's been a long time since I've seen her this sick. I made her chicken soup last night...

Hugs to Nim, Merlin. Tell her to rest and get well soon. And uh, maybe you shouldn't be putting eye of newt in your chicken soup?  :-X

Merlin,

I hope Nim is feeling better soon,

My son was told to blow up balloons, it helped believe it or not  LOL.  Something about expanding the lungs and clearing them out.

Anyway, Jewish Penicillin is always a great cure. It makes you feel better just because someone took the time to make it for you.

We will meet up at TRF I'm sure, until then, have a great summer.

Thanks to all!  Hmm.. I dunno about the balloons. My dad used to get mad at me when I blew things up... I think it had something to do with the broken windows that resulted...

Huzzah Lord Virgo! I will be there Saturday only. I have to leave early to medicate my royal feline too! but at least I get to come to Scarby again!
Sorry Nim is not feeling well, Merlin. Try chicken soup- with Scotch!!! Germs hate scotch! Drat! It would be great to get together again. Not enough wizards around!
Hugs!

I have a question.  Anyone who is coming Saturday.  Are you driving in from home?  The reason I ask is, I am making home-made scones to bring from Tailgate, and I have the raspberry jam, but I'm afraid that butter won't keep, even in a cooler on a 12 hour drive.  If someone could bring some with them that lives close by, that would be great otherwise is scones and jam Saturday morning with you Mimosa.

I also have a bottle of Brut with me.

Lady G.

I'll throw a stick of butter in the cooler for you. Its a 1 hr drive for us to fair. As mentioned elsewhere, we'll be the gold saturnwith the Spanish flag.

A good fiend in the Medical Industry said Cayenne Pepper has natural medicinal properties, so I put a bit in the crack pot when I make chicken soup.

Well, truth be told, I put a LOT in it!  ;)

Hopes the Nim is better soon, Merlin.

Thank you, Sire. I'm sure Nimue will appreciate your kind wishes. She is a pharmacist by profession and into natural medicines as well, and we are quite familiar with the medicinal effects of capsicum.

By the way, did you mean to say you "put a bit in the crock pot," or you "put a bit in the crack pipe" when you make chicken soup? Just curious...I don't wish to have any untoward rumours begun about our good king!

I hope you and the entire cast have a most wonderful closing weekend! Wish we could be there.

Just gotta get through one more work day and then on the road to Scarby!

*Rum would make the day go faster but for some reason they won't let me have it at school*

Looks like we will only be there Saturday, but will stay form opening cannon to closing gate and say our early farwell to all. Hoping to make TRF once this season. You know, one quick comment...the economy cut into our "faire" budget this year. We both have great careers, but it just seems there's less money for fun leftover at the end of the ole payday. Anyway, looking forward to a great day Saturday...and we'll spend too much money!

We wish we had been there.  We were on hand last season for Memorial Day. I couldn't march because I'm not a vet (I don't think JROTC counts...  ;)), but I attended the gathering post-march, mainly in my Dad's memory, and partially in my namesakes memory. I was named for my Dad's best friend, and they joined USAAC together before WWII broke out. They were both at Clark Field, Philippines, which was attacked a few hours after Pearl. Pop and Tommy Hale were both captured later, and "participated in" the Bataan Death March. If you aren't familiar with it, you need to be, so look it up.

Tommy didn't make it back. He died in one of the camps in Luzon province. Pop spent a couple years at Camp McConnell before being shipped to Japan on one of the death ships. He survived the trip—ships on either side and behind were blown out of the water, as they were not marked as prisoner ships—, and worked in the coal mines for the next year near Fukuoka. He was about 130 miles from Hiroshima, and 60 from Nagasaki when the bombs fell.

I personally hate war. I don't hate the people who serve, and I hope you can see the distinction. The damage done to, and loss of, our young people (excuse me...I'm getting "advanced in years" these days...) is terrible. I would so much rather see all of you in garb at the faire than in a pine box because of some warped ideology. I went and saw Pop the other day. He's staying at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. He died 4 years ago. He might have lived longer if he hadn't been reduced to 95 pounds by starvation in the camps, but I want to tell you something positive in this: He held no animosity for the Japanese people. For some of the guards that beat him, sure! he wasn't happy about that... But we need to keep in mind that not every person of every country that we end up fighting (there have been so many) are our enemy.

Memorial Day should also be for those who died just because they "got in the way." The civilians at Pearl, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Iran, New York City... I could go on, but you understand what I'm saying.  Y thinks Z is bad, so they destroy them. X thinks Y is bad, so they destroy them... pretty soon there no one left.  Don't only memorialize your own fallen comrades...memorialize those young men and women who thought they were protecting their homes as well. They aren't any different.
