How is everyone fairing this evening with our crazy weather?
We've had our sirens go off, but now they are silent.
We're right under the "black" color on the radar. I've never seen black.
So far just rain and the path is clear to the interior closet. Though the cat is hiding God-knows where.
So far just hard rain, no hail, but I'm sure we're going to get nailed here shortly.
And yes, I'm checking R/F before we lose power and have to dive into the closet! Hey it's laptop! :)
I've got the lap top, and then I have all the supplies in the best protection we have. I don't know what more we can do that keep an ear out for warnings, and pray for those who are in the middle of it all.
Oh Gosh! Everyone please keep safe!!
Nothing but a spattering of rain at our house in S. Arlington. According to the radar, we were just on the edge several times...not that I'm complaining ::)
Just watched on Fox4...as the sirens went off, they were evacuating baseball fans from the seats to down below to the locker rooms :o
There were a couple of minor touchdowns here in Denton and I know at least one confirmed one outside of Weatherford. There is scattered damage everywhere, with lots and lots of hail everywhere from west Fort Worth to the worst of it which is in Dallas currently. We've been lucky but a lot of faire folks in Dallas are not out of it just yet...
Well Round 1 and Round 2 passed without much fuss here. Just lots of rain and some pea-sized hail. Considering that black-spot-on-the-radar meant massive hail, I think we were quite lucky.
Looks like there's 1 mores storm system passing through that may go over us. Kitty finally came out from wherever he was hiding too.
Hope everyone is safe and well!
Sounds like everyone made it through ok, thank the gods!!!
Prayers and well wishes go out to everyone in the path of all the storms these next few days. What crazy weather !
I had expected for us to have another bad storm here sometime around 2 or 3am, but the storm split apart just at it approached central Arkansas and completely missed us. North part of the state didn't fair so well, and Oklahoma City metro area (broadly speaking) had some really nasty stuff.
This has really been one weird year so far weather-wise.
Our sirens went off, but the worst of the storm passed just south of us. A tornado did touch down in a couple of spots quite a distance to the west, in Watauga.
The PP laughed a little that when they mentioned that there was a tornado in Richardson that I got a little worried. Sorry too many years with tornado's just missing me to take too many chances. They have been known to change direction, and I just want to be safe.
The worst we got was a short power outage, but nothing serious.
The one 'person' I never mess with is Mother Nature. She will trump anything you do, so don't hack her off.
We had several tornadoes on the ground yesterday evening, and one within 10 miles that killed at least 4 people, so I don't think you're silly to worry, Stitch! We lost power for about 40 minutes, and were just about on our way to the school for shelter when the sky started to lighten and I could see it had already moved to the north of us. Any time you feel like you might be in danger, you just get yourself and the renlet to safety, and never mind what anyone else says!
Besides, expectant mamas are protective, and that's just part of their job... ;)

I second that!
At least one of the fatalities of the El Reno tornado was from my home town, visiting her boyfriend there...I believe she was a former classmate's niece :'(
I'm glad everyone seems to have been safe and sound during the nasty weather. And as nasty as it was, I've found very few people (friends and coworkers) in the area that had any significant issues, so that's just awesome (in a good way!). In addition to not messing with Mother Nature (besides fussing on my laptop while the sirens go off), I also do not mess with the IRS, but that's an entirely DIFFERENT sort of topic!
Really sorry to hear that one of your friends lost someone in the storms, Al-Nimer. It certainly does appear that we've really pissed off Mother Nature. I understand that they are expecting a more active hurricane season this year as well. That may be the only way Texas is going to get its badly needed rain, but hopefully it's not like it was just a few short years ago.
Thanks, Merlin TE. I expect more hurricanes this year as well. AFAS rain goes, the DFW area is now only 1.5" below normal for the year, but some areas are still under drought conditions.
It's amazing how quickly that changes...before our floods a couple of weeks ago, we were .65 inches below normal at 4pm Saturday, and 9 inches above normal Sunday at midnight, and it was still raining. Moderation in all things...Mother Nature needs to take heed!
Like you said Merlin, this is one crazy weather year. I woke up this morning to find out that an area just an hour away from me was under a tornado warning, with storms and whatnot and there was no rain, no storms, nothing really where I live... Go figure.
I hope everyone stays safe!
Saturday 94 with ZERO chance of rain
Sunday 87 with ZERO chance of rain
Wooohoooo weeeeeeeeeeeeee
Yes Merlin the Elder it appears that a hurricane may be all that can save parts of Texas. We are currently over 9 inches below normal rainfall for the year (I live about 30 minutes Southeast of TRF). I watched a show Tuesday where they interviewed various meteorologists in Houston about the drought conditions and the consensus was any year that Houston experienced this significant of a drought they were awarded a hurricane during hurricane season to make up the rainfall. I have lived here through Alicia, Rita, and Ike and can tell you that Ike was the worst for Houston and cleanup is still occurring from that. Now a small tropical storm or even a Category 1 hurricane would not be that bad to soak the area with much needed rainfall. But being only 50 feet above sea level (I always said if there was no buildings you could stand in downtown Houston and see the ocean) anything above a Category 2 can cause great issues for us. I have family in parts of Missouri that were hit and friends in the Dallas area so I feel for all the wacky weather you all have been experiencing. We sit in a dust bowl down here by TRF though. One piece of a good news though for our Celtic Christmas weekend..... 92% of the time if Houston gets a hurricane then we get snow that winter. Would be cold but kind of cool for Celtic Christmas.
No
Snow is evil stuff. Especially if there is camping involved.
I was there at TRF for the ice/hail mess a few years back and that is just not a good time.
I was also at Scarby for the snow a couple of years ago and that was the only day I have ever left faire early (made it until around 3ish).
That being said, I would love for it to be cooler than it is right now lol
My Lovely Lady has a history of serious problems with heat including passing out so this weekend will be a lot of me watching to make sure she has plenty of fluids etc.
*Sadly, rum does not count as a fluid for helping stay cool*

Lady Trinn andn I share that trait, Teach, and I have to admire her for even being able to function down there during the "hell" months! I seriously doubt I could survive it... Hoping you all have gorgeously cool, pleasant weather for Scarby this weekend!
I would love for it to be 20 degrees cooler but oh well. I don't do heat well but I am atleast aware that the heat can get me, and how it feels when it starts to get to me. People laugh at me for the ice pack, and bodice chillers, but if they work is all I care about.
My brother works for the trucking industry and with so many trucking companies based out of southwest Missouri , they are taking a serious hit. Granted the ones that do body work and other repairs on the trucks are making a fortune.
HOLY SMOKES! Temperature predictions for today are a lot higher than they were a week ago... I'm glad now that we aren't making the trip. 100° is just too much. We did that last year at closing, and it nearly killed us. At least for those that do go, it's supposed to be windy this year. That will help keep you cooler, but it is going to raise a lot of dust.
Stay hydrated!! Have fun, all.
At around 2:30 this afternoon, I was done in do to the heat. My initial thought was just to go get out of garb and put my shorts and t-shirt on, but that wasn't to be. We ended up coming back to the hotel. Oh well there is always tomorrow.
I think it's supposed to be a little cooler tomorrow, Lady Gryphon. As I said, the heat last year was pretty rough on us. Better to be safe than sorry.
My goodness but it was hot today! We came in late and had planned to stay until about 6pm but the heat did us in about 4:30 and we left. I'm unsure if we'll be out tomorrow. Al-Nimer will be as a performer but I may not. I really want to be at closing on Monday & that means taking it easy tomorrow.

Well I certainly hope you feel better tomorrow
and that it's not as hot. It was great to meet you and Lord Dragon at tail-gate, and thank you so much for sharing the scones!
Maybe the wizards can conjure up a cooling spell for tomorrow? ;)
Don't forget that the first aid station by the front gate has ice water AND an air-conditioned room for those who are starting to feel ill from the heat!!! They are happy to help with things like Gatorade, as well... so don't hesitate to make your way there if you're feeling at all overwhelmed by the weather!
There's an air conditioned room at Scarby?!? That's news to me!
It's at the back of the little First Aid booth, right to the left of the gate as you go in, and it's something like a walk-in cooler, if I recall correctly. I got to go in once when a friend came close to collapsing from heat exhaustion and dehydration, and they cooled her down right quick in there! They also plied her with Gatorade, and may have even given her a salt tablet... I can't recall clearly. I do remember that it was COLD in there, though!!! They don't let just anyone in, either... just those who are in pretty serious shape, and they try not to open the door any more than they have to.
Yep, yesterday was rough. I called it a day after the court dance around 5:30ish. Thank goodness for the Gatorade in the FOF area. I would have been in bad shape were it not for that.
Special HUZZAH to the cast for being in good cheer and form in full-garb all day!
Well, 5:30pm is pretty impressive considering the temperature. I saw that it hit 101°. Seems to me that last year, we gave out by 3...
Looks like you're having a "cooler" day today.
The PP and I were out Sunday. We had fun but I ended up camped out side the Iceman's shop, and the armoury/ Scott camp with a wet towel around my neck, a bodice chiller, ice in my bandana on my head, and a fan. After that I felt alot better, and was able to hang around for another hour before I had to call it quits. Thankfully we had shop keepers who would let us take refuge where they had fans. We were also able to get fresh ice at the first aid station.
I knew I was in for a hard day when with out thinking I drank 2 tankards of gatorade in less than 10 minutes. I did that twice on Sunday. When we left at 5:30 our car said it was 101 outside!
I really wanted to go yesterday but I just couldn't. The PP was nearly done in, and I just couldn't make myself step ouside into the heat.
As much as people griped about having a FOF pass. It paid for it's self many times over, for the simple fact of how much gatorade we drank this year, and how easy it was for us to drop extra garb at the car.
The only thing I would say for next year is to get 1-2 more FOF stations around faire. Just so we have more access to the gatorade and reserved shade.
Oh and next year, I WILL be getting a bigger tankard, there is no mistake about that!
Saturday we lasted until about 2:30- purposefully made an effort not to overdo it. The radio said it was 96 when we left.
Monday we lasted until 4:00 and the radio said it was 94. I made myself drink gatorade from the FOF booth in addition to the lime G2 that we brought with us. Yes, the FOF passes paid for themselves this year with water, ice, gatorade and a shady place to sit.
I made it to closing both Saturday and Sunday.... yeeehaaaaawww!
Did a lot of sitting and people watching on Sunday...lol which is one of our favorite things to do.
This year was my favorite year so far... Seeing Donna's smiling face in the mornings... having a mimosa and a breakfast somethingorother with Lady Kett and her weed puller... making many new friends with the Queens Own Highlanders ... getting to see some Houstonians was also a great treat!
I lost my brag-rag... it was found and returned YAY!
I lost my clan kilt pin.... gone forever... Boooo!
I found a piece of burlap strap...most likely someones peace tie.... YAY !
I bough yet another kilt.... Pride of Scotland... YAY !
I found the pattern needed for my wife to make me a doublet... YAY ! !
My family, the Ketterers, Tony and Cowgirl and my Dad Merlin are all going to Colorado for the Rendezvous YAYAYAYAY ! ! !
Grrrrreat season! Can't wait to see more of you soon ! ! !
Oh yea... it was hot the last weekend but overall... for the season...we had AWESOME weather with NO rain ! YAY ! ! !
It was decidedly toasty this weekend, but wouldn't have missed it for the world!
Merlin, what exactly did you try to call Sidekick that it morphed into weed puller? LOL :)
I am assuming of course, that you didn't intend to call him that!
Argh! You try to teach your children how to be polite and not call anyone names, then one of your sons goes and does that! I'll have to make him buy you an ale or two at RenDezvous, Lady Kett!
Merlin! My son! Embarrassing me again? ;) heheh! Sounds like you had a good time despite the heat. Colorado should be a little easier on us all...at least I'm hoping...
That's what I heard you call him.....
Just kidding !
SSHHESHHSHSHSHSHHUUUSHHSHSH!
Made all three days till closing as things go closing weather was pretty normal. We've had 110 and we've had a foot of rain and we've had 60mph winds. nothing like that this weekend so was happy.
I also made it all 3 days cannon to cannon. I had hoped to wear my armour Monday, but I am not actually crazy. Getting to old to do that.

Congrats for making all 3 days C2C! I did the same, but I
really paid for it today, as I could barely function at work ;)

That's why I took today off! Off course Faire wasn't quite the reason I gave my boss... ;)
I did fine on Saturday. It was not too humid. It was just a day trip and I had to leave early to get home to medicate my Royal Feline. Sorry I was too late for the tailgate festivities. I did make it before opening cannon. No meet and greet on Sat. I was there- but no one else was.I guess it was not planned. Hugs to all.
