I was very Un-inspired this weekend. While normally I take 600 - 700 shots I took less than 200. none of which i was very happy with. Maybe in the coming weeks. Funny I took more on Sunday at Ft Collins Victorian Picnic... none of which I was really happy with.
My gf got a ton of good ones from Sunday. She was planning on entering them into the contest though, so maybe afterwards I can persuade her to share them with everyone. Great pics though!

Super dooper photos everyone!
I am going to have to talk to the Earl about making a road trip next year to Colorado. I have not been there since 1983. There are places I want to go to, in addition to a weekend of festing. Historical places to get more inspiration fo Historic Period Clothing and all the rest.
Besides, it will be our 40th Wedding Anniversary. What better way than to celebrate with my R/F Family??
Argh....can't wait two more weeks....head will explode.
But I love seeing the pictures! I can pretend that I'm not 800 miles away...
Who has photos of my wrens??!!! Hurry up and take them! The babies are chirping wildly and the Mom and Dad are frantically bringing in, green worms, daddy long legs, moths, grasshoppers and various other creatures and the babies can't get enough. I'm afraid if you wait to long they will be out of the nest before you get a chance! They were pulling the baby down out of the nest on Sunday. Hurry hurry!!!
edit - baby down as in the down feathers... not down and out of the nest!
I caught a few ... they are in there ... I intend to snap more, and BETTER ones this weekend. Here's hoping!

Are you telling me that we are attending yet another faire this year with disgustingly high temperatures?? (Or is it just hot to Coloradites?) I saw expected highs of 86–88, with low humidity, which sounds fairly nice.
Say... I don't look to bad in white.
Wonderful captures of the wonderful weekend. Would've been even more wonderful if the weather had been just as wonderful. Then again the heat always generates a wonderful crowd, so it seems.
Ah anyway... well done ye capturing capture-rs of many splendid people and things.

The heat this weekend was rather exceptional for mid-late June. We saw temps in the mid 90s this weekend with no clouds or breeze, so even though the humidity was low (it always is unless it's raining) it was quite warm. 80s is a little more typical, and it looks from the extended forecast like we will be in for another exceptionally warm weekend, although that's always likely to change at will.

Oh dear God.... DAD... NO ! Bad dad ! BAD DAD!
Remember what happened to me at Scarborough Faire on what was supposed to be the end of the world? Yea... I disrobed and proudly walked down the lane professing my love to Cat Woman from the original Batman series.... and ended up in the jail with a guy named "Bubba" (we are still facebook friends)
I digress..... 104 ! ! ! ! ! What in the capital F !
Hellooooooo.. it's Colorado !
I've been checking weather.com and it's supposed to be 58 - 88 .... they said nothing about 104 !
Regimental it is ! Makes packing easier.
104? Good grief, I didn't even know! Honestly, it really only felt like it was in the 90's... but "only in the 90's" is a sad commentary in and of itself, heh. Anyway, I wouldn't say it's likely to be that hot, but you never know. That is honestly fairly rare though. Anyhow, great new shots! Thanks mates!
I think we'll be okay, son. Their 100° is a lot different than ours. Anything below 90 sounds good to me after this month...third hottest June on record for Arkansas and a few other states...
Actually it was NOT 104 in Larkspurshire. There was a nice breeze Saturday afternoon that did drop it down. I do know for a fact that at about 5:30 when Toki and I lkeft the temp guage in the X-Terra said 93. In colorado the hottest part of the day is between 3 and 4 typically. Temps will show higher in Cities as there is more concret, asphalt and glass which obsorbs the heat and keeps it kind of like a rock which is why snakes like to sun on them in the latter part of the day as they avoid the heat during the high point of the sun.
This weekend is saying to be 90. But in Colorado we NEVER trust the weather. And while the weekend was hot, that was a cake walk compared to mid July last year. The key is ALWAYS to NOT drink so much alcohol and to drink plenty of water, lemonade, tea and even go tot he car and get gatorade. Pickle juice as long as you drink alot of water is also good. But pickle juice alone is NOT good. Combines with the water it is good.
I've heard low to mid 90s but like people have said it is Colorado the weather is rather bi polar. But when its hot there is a plus its a DRY heat so you wont stick to everyone that you hug or touch.
The sun also gets people more than they'd expect. Only a couple minutes in direct sunlight on a 90+ day and most people are in trouble even if they don't feel it directly like in a humid heat.

I'm simply quoting what the Lord High Sheriff's thermometer said at his camp. I know it was the first day I've ever actually had puddles inside of my boots by closing cannon, ugh.
Was the thermometer in the sun? That could have done it. Official temps are always taken in the shade.
Temperature inside my van, well out of the sun, and quite well-ventilated, read 104 degrees Sunday afternoon.
I'm almost functional now.
Croak.

Believe it or not being in full on noble garb is not that bad. This is just like the Arabs, they were many layers of cloth and usually dark cloth at that. This allows them to sweat and that stays next to the skin and keeps you cooler. Sweat is the bodies cooling method like a dog does with panting. Someone in t-shirt and shorts is far hotter as the sweat evaporates off their body and they are not cool. it also intensifies the sun like a magnifing glass and they will feel much hotter. In all that heavy cloth as a noble you are insulated from the sun and heat. Of course the key is to always drink lots of water to keep from losing to much liquids.
As for the temps the hottest day this year is predicted to be tomorrow at near 100 along the front range. Temps in cars are always 10 - 30 degree's hotter in a car even in the shade. Hence the reason you NEVER leave a baby, child or pet in them even with windows down as it will cook them. If the temp outside is 75 and you leave a baby in that car, you will cook them in a short time, this is because the ambiant temp inside is far hotter.
OH And NEVER... EVER... Trust what the Sheriff says. He IS after all The Sheriff and you can never trust those types.

Of course not, silly Girl! Because we wear the heaviest, most heat-retentive garb on site.
And despite Lady Delaney's mistaken theory, sweat only works as a coolant when is able to evaporate from the skin -- which is why low humidity makes high temperatures so much more bearable, and why high humidity makes them so much more uncomfortable.
Regardless, I plan to have a great time and meet some wild and crazy people.

fantastic!

Yes... BIG NO NO Out here. Only the King and Queen are suppost to sit in them. Last year and 2 years ago some people got the stocks and chew marks on their behinds. But I am sure they will let you slide being you where visiting.
Last year every court meeting before Cannon they said NO ONE SITS IN THE CHAIRS accept the King and Queen.
Glad you enjoyed yourself.
Heh heh... good thing we didn't hear that at cast call!!!
LOL - we surely took advantage of our weekend! Thanks to everyone of you who helps make us feel special too!
Photos from fourth weekend are online, including lots of our cherished invaders:

First, a sincere thank you to Lady blushing for coming to my (camera) rescue.
Second, unfortunately the weather shortened the day which only allowed for a few photos...

As usual, Lady D!! BEAUTIFUL photos!! Love them all! Even the ones with our own TWIG the Fairy!!!
Hey all
Well here is a link to my picasa site, instead of linking each folder you can just check out them all

You totally threw me off with the new username, mate!
I figure i would start using my main pirate name since most really know me at our faire by that.

I know you better as Garath
You met me before i really got into being a Portugese pirate.
Sir Garath was a name Dan bestowed upon me when i use to dress as a viking.
Select photos from the fifth weekend are posted, although the majority came from Sunday, I think. Enjoy!

Normally I wouldn't post photos from another faire in our forum; but, in this case I wanted to share them with the CoRF members.
I had the pleasure of attending the Bristol Renaissance Faire this past weekend.
The people were friendly, the outfits elegant and the artisans very talented...
The thing to note when viewing the pictures is that it was 96 degrees / 90% humidity.

(I posted a link on the BRF board as well)
Enjoy
It's a nice group picture, and you can tell that some of the cast are wilting, I was getting heat stroke just looking at this :). What troupers!
Lovely photos from Bristol! I have to say, with that temperature and humidity, it's even more amazing that the cast does such a stellar job!
Photos from the sixth weekend are up, although thanks to the weather (or rather, my reaction to it), I didn't take very many:

Great photos of both Colorado and Bristol.
It was so hot and humid over the weekend, there was no way I would have worn garb. This was in Minnesota of all places.
My hat goes off to those who can do faires in humid weather, because I am just not cut out for them. I've only playtroned at a humid-weather faire once (Maryland) and it nearly did me in. The heat here is pretty brutal, but it's a dry heat and that makes a ton of difference. My folks were contemplating coming this weekend but are now rethinking their plans because of the forecasted heat. I don't blame them - I wouldn't be at ren faire this weekend either if I didn't have to!
Toki and I are deciding NOT to go this weekend. We plan on going into the mountains, finding sme snow or a cold stream and sticking our feet into it. We WILL how ever be back for closing weekend on Saturday baring any major things stopping us.
Have fun this weekend, stay cool and very well hydrated and don't drink to much stuff that is bad in high heat (alcohol)

Alas, much of the magic of faire is lost when you have to spend it dealing with an endless supply of--to put it lightly--morons. Perhaps I should have amended my statement to say, I would be there if I didn't have to WORK....

Well Zoe i once worked for a steak house as head cook so even though i didn't work for tips i did get compensated by the waitress so making sure the order was correct meant they got tipped better which meant they gave me a bigger compensation. So i tend to tip good for service given

Zoë, you need a shirt (or large button) with "Tipping, it's not just for cows" - would be sure to get a laugh, and possibly more tips... :)
It is my opinion that everyone needs to spend time working in the hospitality industry for a while...waiter/waitress/waitron, cook, etc. That's when you learn what it's all about, and when you learn the proper way to show your gratitude... Trust me when I say that good tipping gets rewarded.

Phone support...:P You deal with the weed kickers who THINK they now it all yet are calling you for help. They refuse to listen until you say... Listen I am trying to help you. if you would stp and listen to what I have to say, I am sure I can resolved your issue and 99% of the time... I can. The other 1% I cannot? Indeed, seventh weekend is broken. But I just noticed sixth and you have the cutest photo of me including my feet. Joy! I'm so frickin pleased with those hooves.
Hurray 7 is fixed!
No pictures of that 'Ural' motorcycle and sidecar as I begged and pleaded

Nice picture, too. Those are made in Russia to an old German design and are very good for very bad roads. They're rare-ish in the U.S.

Okay folks, here's my big question: did ANYONE get some decent shots (or any shots, for that matter) of me fighting at the final joust? It was totally a dream come true for me to do that, and I feel like I've got to document it, because otherwise I might not believe it actually happened, heh.

if i would have known about it ahead of time i would have been there to get it for you captain
I really hope some one got some pictures! I have heard about it from my kiddo and everyone else I am dying to see some pictures of the action!
All I can say is "Capt Jack Hammer"
Here you go, Jack. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TX3ku8RGkg
Your youtube debut is brief, but more footage may emerge in time. Enjoy!
I couldn't weave through the throng of people to get close enough to get good pictures/record the final fight like I had wanted to. Instead I got stuck behind two of Douglas Counties Finest Sheriff's, back by the pub. I did... sort of get pictures of the parade and a few goings on through out the day.. still trying to get them off my phone and sort out the pictures with bystanders stumbling through the shots I took.
Yeah, it was kind of a last minute thing, so I know a lot of people didn't know about it. So far I've seen ONE really amazing shot of me standing triumphant with one foot atop my vanquished foe and my giant-arse warhammer (yes, you read that right) held in the air, but that's it. At any rate, I'm just glad I found a pic :D
My photos from final weekend are almost all up; I'll be adding a separate album for final joust on Saturday. Enjoy.

Also, don't forget the deadline for the Xfinity photo contest is August 11, and
top prize is a yearly pass for two for the 2012 season (and some video camera or something or other)

Edit : Hey look pictures.... some photographer kept trying to join in the parade shots. Some people just don't think phones count as camera's. :P

It's not that they don't consider a phone cam a camera. It's just that people in a large public venue are oblivious to others in the crowd and literally don't see it when someone is trying to take a picture with a camera phone or small hand held digital camera.
I cant even begin to count the number of times I have had someone walk into a shot while I was in the process of setting up, and as most here will attest - when I am in 'photographer mode' I present a target neigh on impossible to overlook.
It happens to the best of us... ;)

One of those photos is when Lady Rose made me dance with her, which I didn't realize ANYONE was watching, so -- NEAT! Good catch despite the stumbling patrons.

Quite true that. Its all right though I had fun being able to take pictures for a change, with a camera that doesn't utterly fail at being a camera...even for being on a phone. Hopefully next season I will be able to have a proper camera on hand.

Yes I was the fellow in the red doublet she asked to join right as Celtic Legacy was finishing up. I also had a mask on so It probably made it hard to recognize me... though in part my fault for not introducing myself to start with. :P
Oops, put this in the Lovely Video thread also, by mistake.

I just about DIED when you two came up while I was reapplying my costume bits in the parapet tower and started greeting the "Riff-raff."
I have a huge grin on my face, just thinking about you hearing us do that.
We hadn't been on the parapet before and didnt really know what to say, so we just launched into it. It seemed like the sort of thing an Earl would say to people.
I couldn't tell if we offended anyone by calling them the "riff raff" or "the rabble." Occasionally, if someone looked offended, we suggested to me that they might be incognito nobility. I think at one point we said something like, "you are welcome here as long as you don't bring pitchforks and torches." And, at another, I just yelled, "what are all you people doing at my castle?"
Clearly we can't be held responsible for the stuff we say up there.
I've done some editing of pictures and wanted to show everyone how scary Capt Spleen was on opening day,
