Looking forward to our visit to your shire this Labor Day weekend, the Baroness and I were wondering: What food do you locals like best?
M'Lady likes the bangers and mash.
Are you at all considering the feast?
So many favorites over the years. Right now I'd lean towards the popovers.
I've hit the Feast Of Fantasy at least once a season since it started. I think this might be the 27th year. Many years more than once.
I miss grabbing a loaf of St. John's bread on the way out. To let faire linger a little longer.

Interesting....
I really enjoyed the gyros last year for the food available for purchase. What was REALLY tasty was what was available behind the Willing Soles booth!

How do we get to that feast? :D
I am partial to the lamb on a stick as well as crepes.

Bribe us with booze?
Totally in love with the crepes since they have the nice real french chef there.

Would Loki and mead work?
YES! We are not too proud to drink your booze.
My favorite is the scotch eggs, gyros (before the ranch dressing substitute) and the Popovers.
Although, last year, I never got around to getting my scotch egg, or popover fix. :(
Hmmm...I dont remember what they call them but the edible bowls with some type of wild rice mixture. Delicious! :)

Sounds like one of the bread bowls of soup.

Or lunch, or dinner, or snack.
Guinness 8)
I usually alternate between Scotch eggs and the crepes for breakfast. For those of you new to be participants the Scotch eggs booth is usually open before the cannon goes off. I recommend the soup in a bread bowl for something really filling that will stick with you. Guilty pleasure is the deep fried cheese curds. Been decades since I had a turkey leg -just not worth fighting all the tendons and ligaments.
BREAKFAST BEER!! ;D It's the most important meal of the day!!
Love the scotch eggs - no gravy :P
Shepards pie is awesomely fantastic and filling
Soup in a bread bowl on those cold rainy days.. Love the chicken enchilada soup!
Cheese Curds! 'nuff said..
The turkey burgers are quite tasty..
chicken on a stick... I always say I am not going to eat it, and then somehow that's what I end up eating.. still, it is good, and will fill you up.. ;)
Once a season I make sure to get a turkey leg.. so very gross yet so very good all at the same time..
Avoid the mac-n-cheese bites over by Dragon's pub.. *barf*
There are so many other great foods to try out there, you will definitely find something to satisfy every taste bud!!
;D
Just remember in the words of our friend "Cheese curds in -cheese turds out..."
Ferret, that's it! Soup in a bread bowl. ;D
No one has mentioned spinach pie or roast boar? Heathens!
There's a great gelato place in the burnsville section (queen's pub area).
who has Roast Boar? I don't think I have seen that. years ago they used to have a pretty fair steak sandwich. Not any longer, I'm afraid . . .

There is a booth right next to Sheriffs pub in front of the stocks! Double win! Roast Boar and a Beer! ;D

Spinach pie, my favorite! Scotch eggs or crepes for breakfast, for sure.
Spinach pie. Yum!
I've had a little hit or miss luck with the crepes. Kinda cardboard flavored on the miss, and not sure that the nutella didn't compensate on the hits. :)
Spinach pie for me, and Banger rolls with ranch. I'm an addict for those. Cupcakes on coolr days, and orange ice for hot ones, though both can be high on the messy scale. Favorite, though has to be Wagners' yellow barn in Jordan after fest for a root beer and apple struedel. ;)
"death by garlic" antipasto salad, oops that's not for sale but one of our shop staff dinners... ;D

You're such a food tease! :P
Yummy! The Jaycees maintenance guy, my beloved Doc Hartmann, also makes a deliciousness he calls "death by garlic".
One of the last times my wife and I were at fest it was cold and damp(her MS made warm days miserable to her) and we had the beer cheese bread bowl soup and a steak sandwich. It was the first time we brought our daughter and the last fest my wife would attend. She passed a couple years later. Every year, my daughter and I look forward to that same meal and we think of her mom and how much she always enjoyed renfest.
On a cool morning the hot mead is good.
I learned yesterday that the Roasted Boar is no more.. Their booth has been completely cleaned out.. :-\ Word is, they were priced out as they are not a CKC run booth.. (this is rumor of course, no one will probably ever really know what the real reason is....)

I was wondering how long they would last. They were too good to be true.
well, that sucks. I just find out about the place and they are already closed. I'll have to take a long walk around this year and try lots of stuff.
The Dress Press event usually has a preview of the upcoming foods at faire. It's a good place to get a head start on your "Faire Fifteen". (pounds gained at faire, that is) ;)

I'm with you on the crepes.
Unfortunately, Alain has said he's not running the crepe booth this year.
In fact, he said he'll be helping out at Scotch Eggs and that this is the last year for Scotch Eggs...
*EEK!*
(s'what I've heard anyway.)

I'd believe that. That's essentially the reason Alain gave for not doing the Crepe booth this year. What he said was that he was forced to take the food books, had to pay tax on those sales, and then never got the fraction of a dollar each page of that book would have been worth anyway. Ultimately, he said it's just not worth his time. He made no money, (I think he said something like $300 profit by the end of the run) and would rather enjoy his weekends.
Yeah the independent food booth contracts can really suck. My understanding is they have to pay to rent the booth, pay MAF a percentage of their sales, and MAF sets the prices. At least we crafters only have to pay the annual booth lease, not a percentage of our sales.
How the heck do they get people to sell food out there? Yikes!

Management doesn't want independent food vendors. They would rather have CKC run all of the food booths.
Thank all of you for your kind responses! We're looking forward to sampling the wares.
The mead there is phenomenal! Remember splitting a gyro... remember the mead! Also had several beers, and several hard ciders. The mead is really good!
Trying to eat more healthy lately but will have to have a little shepard's pie, spinach pie and turkey legs. All washed down with mead and guinness.
I haven't sampled the mead.. I should probably try to do that this year.
Then again, I've got 15gallons of my own mead that I know is damn tasty. Maybe I can arrange a trade. :D

Can't get any healthier than that!
At dress press last night, I got to try the sweet potato fries. Yum yum! I will be looking for their booth!

Yes they were quite tasty!
I also enjoyed the chicken ceasar wrap.
