The sneak peek behind the scenes as a non-fest employee is one of those things that both fascinates me, and sometimes takes the sparkle off the faire excitement. There's been plenty of grumblings over changes and management (and rightly so considering what they're doing), so I thought I'd start a thread for the GOOD stuff. The BEST part. The GET FREAKING EXCITED THAT THE SEASON IS STARTING STUFF!!!
No whining allowed here, there's room for that elsewheres ;)
So what's got you geared up to get hot, and sweaty, and filthy out at faire this year?
For starters, I'm eye-balling a new Moresca bodice, if things work out I'll be thrilled to show it off as a new addition to my garb. I also can't wait to catch my first viewing of Vil Tennis this year, and intend to spend more time checking out The Danger Committee; I only saw them a couple of times last season, and I like how they've changed things from the Dew Drop Juglers.
I'm looking forward to:
1. New costume pieces & the new hats we are wearing this year.
2. Only participating in one group this year instead of splitting my time between several
3. Camping out again. Last year we didn't. It was nice, dry. Cool when hot, warm when cold. Flush-able toilets, a nice shower . . . etc. That said, it is nice just to roll over, stroll up to cast call and grab coffee & breakfast on the way.
4. New cast members among the Merry Men. Loving them already and can't wait to play with them on street.
There are additional things I am looking forward to, but those are for 2012, and I'm not spilling the beans yet!!!
The laughter of small kids, the bruises on my knees, singing swing low in the morning, seeing people I only get to see at fest, and dancing with the morris dancers on what should be the bear stage yet again.
Feast of Fantasy. Have gone at least once each year since it started, some years more.
Budget allowing an animal head sporran.
And see any of the street performers making a child happy.
Ferret
The whole ambience of faire. I would be hard pressed to choose any ONE thing....
Having many more fights this year with Dueling Grounds, and only one is unarmed. I'm getting lots of use out of my new rapier. Also, I get to fight with Lady Meegan Zerilli. :)
Opening day with my husband. ;D
The smell of the grounds early in the morning when we open the booth.
Hanging out with friends while we wander the grounds.
Trying out new accents.
Laughing from start to finish, the whole day long. ;)
New gowns for myself and each of my daughters! (I should get started on mine soon, then!)
Checking out some stage acts now that the girls are older and may actually sit through more than just Bramblebush!
Watching my crazy sister become even MORE crazy as she works out there again! =D
Just getting out to see my friends at Fest!
Just getting OUT!

Exactly what I was thinking too. My other thing I am looking forward to is smacking Fae's junk in her trunk again. ;D

You weren't looking forward to hanging out with her husband on opening day? I know that will be one of my highlights! ;)
Fog across the site first thing in the morning.
The Morris Dancers "blessing the site" after hours as in this audio I caught a couple years ago using a little digital recorder
http://historicgames.com/sound/blessingsite.mp3
The music is a little choppy, but I caught them at the very end of their procession around the inside perimeter of the entire ring of the site, so their penny whistle player was getting tired.
Seeing all the friends we only see once or twice a year outside of fest.
SHowing off the new game table I'm finishing and the new Cribbage boards

Of course I am, I adore him. However, I think MG adores him more. ;)
flirting ;)
I totally can't forget watching patrons jump at the sound of the cannon :)
*I am nearly deaf in one ear so I don't jump anymore.... it lessens the effect when it only hits one side of your head*
Oh and I can't wait to glitter at least one dad's nose... :P

Very much so this! Hauntingly beautiful.
I am looking forward to seeing my friends that have been scattered across the country for the past 10 months.
Meeting up with old friends who are rennys and bringing new ones to experience the fest for the first time.
Kilts, Beer, Kilts, Loki, Beer, and KILTS! Oh My!! ;)
Getting to spend the weekends with my adorable wonderful husband! :-*
Seeing the puppies at the petting zoo!!
Laughing until I snort! :D
Spending time with awesome people who I miss all year long!!
Playing games with my pub mates!! MONKEY!!!!
11 Days to go!!! ;D
Things I am not looking forward too...
swass, swack, and swoobies... :P :D
Can you imagine if the weather at faire is as nice as it's been today!!!

That would be fantastic!! but... I looked at the extended forecast and right now they are saying 92 on Sat. and 91 on Sun... *faint* :P then again, I'd rather have it hot then have that cold white crap falling on us from the sky.... ;)
Well maybe the weekend after that then. I can't go to opening weekend anyway :p
Trying out some new garb.
The expressions of people meeting Lord F.
Hopefully this year I can swing starting payments for some Catskills....*crosses fingers*
Seeing friends I have not seen all year....
Sitting back at Wilin Soles and having the ladies massage my feet...errrr I mean try on new shoes..... ::)
Trying out the Oddbodkin bodice and the Damsel bodice I invested in.
Shopping!!
Seeing Zilch for the umpteenth time. The English major in me is always thrilled.
Shopping!
Watching some new shows and becoming a Court Reveler groupie.
Did I mention shopping? ;)
I am looking forward to the shows, music, seeing people I know, meeting new people! :)
I am looking forward to being a patron again and just enjoying myself with my husband and my son. It will be so great to just watch the shows and peruse the shops!
Actually, I am looking forward to this new structure (or lack thereof) Terpsichory has been "cast" into (yeah, pun totally intended, haha). I think we're going to have a lot of fun with it, and I think our show will actually be better if we're not up on a stage. Also, we get to do more teaching, which is fun.
I might have to try out some of the new foods (http://www.renaissancefest.com/MRF/food.html) they have this year. The fry bread tacos sound kinda tasty, not too sure about the alligator though.

teaching court dance eh?
ill be there :)
^^Awesome! We'll have several teaching sessions per day this year. I think we will not be in the program, since we're not officially gridded, so I'll post our schedule on here once we come up with it! ;D
*Meeting up with old friends at the Fest Friends Glade as well as making new ones.
*Enjoying getting dressed up in garb again.
*Getting ideas for future garb.
*Shopping for embellishments for upcoming commissions.
*Seeing what is new on the grounds.
*Just taking in the sights and smells that says.."RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL"
I am looking forward to enjoying all of fest again this year! Being able to wander around all the grounds this year without having to use that damn walking stick or Gins arm to help me get around! 2 years of being hampered and limited in my mobility out there due to that damn broken knee cap really sucked the fun of fest out of me. It will be nice to be able to wander around out there with 2 free hands again!...
Storm, we know you! You won't have 2 free hands as one will be holding a beer!
LoL....You know me well Cas!...True, I almost always have a beer in my hand, but my other hand will now be free to hold another beer, or some food, or Gins butt!...
I'm looking forward to meeting new people; seeing my sister and nieces all dolled up as nobles (vs fairies); all the groups I will be interacting with - including being a lady of the joust again; and you can't forget the best part....playing with the peasants ;D

Actually getting to see all you guys during the day without it being followed with "OMG it's 1pm GO TO BED!"
(That said I work a short afternoon shift Saturday so I will be running around in the morning saying hey!)

LOL! I will have to find a Knight to carry my favor :D
Or favor knight to carry YOU...
Lady Meegan Zerilli is available for hire, and she kicks my weed puller asset in our fight.
Or are we talking a "different" kind of favor? :)
I'm fine either way ;) :D
