Title: What's up with TWIG?
Post by: FaeGuardian on January 05, 2012, 12:37:38 AM
The Scarborough website has Twig listed as Lane Entertainment, but if you click the link and go to her website there is a big gap in her schedule where Scarborough would normally be.

Is it possible that with less than 4 months to go they have not booked Twig to return?

Sure I like all the other acts who are returning, but it's hard to imagine Scarborough without Twig.

You'll notice that Twig's schedule on her site is partially 2011 and partially 2012, and not complete in either case.

It's difficult to tell how much, if any, of Scarborough's entertainment schedule has been updated for 2012. If you look at the Limited Engagement, those are 2011 performance dates.

What I've seen in the past at many faire and performer websites, the schedules don't get updated until shortly before the faire opens. Scarborough has yet to hold auditions for their lane performers, coming up Jan 21. The juries for artisans is in February, so there are still a lot of things up in the air. It seems that last year Berit would announce here as contracts were returned for performers, and that was happening around February.

That's a relief, kinda. Maybe it will change by then.

Alas, Berit has moved to another state... but I am sure some of us may be able to find out.  I'm hoping to know more about some scheduling soon, if I can find out anything and get someone in a position of authority to approve or post, I will!  Coy has been known to post here as well!

Well. I hate to hear that Berit has moved on. He'd been around for a number of years. I hope all is well with him.

I don't know much about it, but I seem to remember Twig posting something on facebook about having her fans let Scarby know that they want her back for this season.

Twig is currently on the website, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Berit had an excellent opportunity come along and he took it.  Everyone in the Scarby family misses him and wishes him well.  He is quite happy where he is now, and we're all very glad for him. :)

Twig did post asking for support on her FB page. Go to the Scarby FB page and let them know it just wouldn't be right without her!

Good afternoon everyone!

My name is Danielle Guinn. I am the new Director of Sales and Marketing for Scarborough Renaissance Festival! "Berit" was wonderful and we are very excited for the new endeavor he has embarked upon. I will do my absolute best to maintain his legacy here. I admire your loyalty to him and to our festival and hope in the future I can build the same relationships with you as he did.

In regards to Twig, I will be updating the website with performers and entertainment in February, so please stay tuned! In the meantime...I wish you all magic and merriment!

According to TWIG.... straight from the fairy's mouth... she does not have an agreement with Scarby as of yet... but they are working on it.
Please go to http://www.facebook.com/SRFestival?sk=wall to express your support.

I'm pretty sure that all the entertainment listed is last year's. Contracts are not due in until sometime in February, according to what I've been told.

When contracts are due seems to change regularly. For the 2010 season, the cutoff for proposals was September 1st, "so contracts can be finalized by November, before the holidays".

Interesting... they told me I could pick the musicians for our renewal sometime in February, when they knew which acts would be there. That's was I was going by, but admittedly making an assumption about the contracts.

As the Marketing Director and those coordinating Entertainment have shifted about over the past couple of years, it is entirely understandable that contracts are happening a little later.  It's much easier for someone who has been doing it a while to get things done smoothly.  As we all know, when we start a new job, even one that we've helped someone else do before, it takes time to get all of the details in place and ducks in a row. :)

According to the SRFestival FB page, no Twig this year.  Our daughter is going to be devistated.

We may have to take a trip to Colorado or Carolina to see her.

I don't know the details but I don't like this one bit.

Well, being on the outside, there's no way to know whether SRF didn't offer, or Twig didn't like the offer given.

We tend to like what we're familiar and comfortable with, and don't like change so much. But what we might like, may be the very thing that keeps others away...too much of the same thing. Twig is at other faires we're visiting this year, so we will be seeing her.  Without change, we would not have ever sampled some of the great talents we've been exposed to over the years...just keep that in mind.

Just an observation...not a criticism of anyone.

TWIG will absolutely be missed. I miss a lot of acts who have moved on. But, business is business and SRF and TWIG are both businesses and must do what's best for each. I do hope nothing but the best for TWIG and Scarby will not collapse because she is not there. I do hope she comes back.

From what has been said, they would have liked to have Twig, but as Ryk said, there is no way to know exactly how it went in negotiations.
I hope we see Twig back in the future for the kids who love her.

Nope. I was very enamored of her when I first started going to Scarby, several years ago, and while I DO try to make sure that when I have children with me, or someone who's never been to Scarby, that they get to see & hopefully interact with her, I don't fret if I don't see her.

I personally think there's such a thing as overexposure. It's like the radio playing the same song every hour at the same time for days on end, which is the way it used to be in the mid-60s, I know.  Not having young children, and not having a faire that I'm at every weekend, I didn't get overly exposed to Twig, but there does seem to be an intense focus on her wherever she is. Her photo seems to be on everything...can't help but wonder how the other artists feel about all that.

I don't dislike Twig for any reason, and she's always been very sweet when I acknowledge her, as I try to do with any actor I pass.

Now, changes to the Royal Court at Scarborough would invoke a considerably different response from me, and I'm very fond of the rest of cast as well.

Last season, when I made my first trip ever to Scarbby, I tried for three days to get a photo of Twig and she either walked right by me or purposely got up and left.  As far as I'm concerned, I'm not going to miss seeing her, and she is not why I'm going to Faire.  I'm sorry if the children will miss her, but there are plenty of other actors trying to make the right impression and interact with everyone.

Sorry that's how it was for me.

What else besides "I sniff Fairy Tales" would be ren-related for dog wear?

Sorry been preparing for the show and haven't been on in a few days, however we make all of our outfits for any size dog, and have put a kilt on a Great Dane. We have Kilts, Belly Dancer Costumes, Three Muttketteer oufits complete with hat, nobility coats and Renaissance dresses. Please swing on by as we are to the right of the Crown Stage near Don Juan and Miguel and are in the shade, which is something I believe will be very useful this year. Make sure you mention this awesome site so I can give you the friends and family discount. :)

How about "Forget the doggie biscuits - where's the turkey leg?"  Or maybe, "Forget the doggie biscuits - where's the  Loki?"  Or something along those lines.

Or, depending on where you go, "hey, what's that guy in the kilt doing using my tree?"

Just put yourself in the dog's mind and lots of thoughts pop out.

Heh, heh, heh, I just finished today packing my tent after spending 8 weekends at Sherwood so I'm in the mood for some frivolity, renfaire style.

At times there were some dogs in the campgrounds, and sometimes I did wonder how they actually viewed the carrying-ons that take place.  If it is within their conceptual capabilities, I have no doubt the canines all think we have all gone mad.

I can understand why you would feel that way but I would say not to take it personal. As an actor, she has people and children coming at her all day long for pictures, and she is constantly interacting with everyone. People in general, blend together eventually when you are performing in the lanes. She is only one fairy and can't be everywhere all the time. She does a great job, I'm sorry that she was flitting about, like a fairy does and passed by.

Yes, after a while (and it doesnt take long when you are mobbed for photos), the people around you turn into a literal blur while you try and accomodate everyone.  I try to get as many as I can, and I dont always hear everyone above the din of people in crowds.

Then its even harder when you try to make your way backstage to get a few seconds of breathing room because (for me) every third step is more requests for photos ;)  Its a lot of fun, but it can be a lot of hard work too.

My two fae cents worth

I don't get a lot of requests for photos—at least that I know of—but I do get an occasional one or two.  I'm actually a bit hard of hearing in certain frequencies, especially when there's a lot of ambient noise (like faire), and Nim is completely stone-deaf on one side.  Unfortunately, some people take our infirmities as ignoring them, which is totally not the way we are.  If it happens to you that we don't respond, please tap us on the shoulder! We're actually quite friendly, when we can hear you!
