WoW! Seems like only yesterday... Okay, I'm lying. It seems like YEARS!!!
Nonetheless, in less than 85 days, Scarborough will be opening their gates for their 32nd year! As of mere moments ago, Nimue and I have reservations at the local Hampton Inn, and will be in the parking lot Saturday morning, possibly with an ice chest full of refreshments for anyone who happens to drop by. Just look for Homer, the Odyssey. I don't have Loki. No one has ever even let me sample Loki. But, there will probably be something else handy.
Will there be anyone else there who would like to assist us as we usher in the 2012 season?
Cross your fingers. We are working on being there as well. Maybe not with Loki, but if all goes well we will be bringing our favorite supply of Mead, Pirtle Blackberry.
(Never had Loki either. Communist plot, I tell you ) ;D
I will be there. Have had loki and I really dont think you have missed a lot. Give it a try when you have a chance though.
I will be there with the family. What time and what lane? I will have some beverages and we`ll see what else we can get together. ;D Huzzah

It may be just a feeble attempt to keep it out of the hands of the psychos...
Good point, Brother...... ;D
Me and my trusty Sidekick will be there - also with a trunk full of adult beverages.
Adult beverages...does that mean Scotch that's at least 21 years old? ;) You've been missed, Lady K! Glad to see you back.
I'll be there, hopefully with some of the really good Loki. Unfortunately, my all time favorite is no longer available, and I've only a couple of sips left. That being said, I'll be seeing my supplier in a couple of weeks and will be sure I've got a bottle, or two.
I think we're usually on Row 12, though if it's too full, we scooch over to 11. I'll be heading in to work before cannon, but am always in the parking lot by about 8, ESPECIALLY opening weekend.
Merlin
Does that mean you'll be doing 2 weekend in a row? I thought your special event was the next week, or did I write it down wrong. Let me know so I can get my calendar straight
I have scotch but sadly it's not 21 YEars old, more like 12 -18 I can't afford anything older.
As of yesterday, we decided to come both weekends. For opening, we'll likely be traveling alone. Week 2, the "special" one, we'll have some riders. You have your calendar right. We've done preview wekend the past few years, but we'll skip that this year so that we can do opening. Being 5 hours away, we just can't come every weekend, as much as we'd love to.
Josh will be working Scarby, so he'll be out there all season. I am planning to be there opening weekend and Merlin & Nimue weekend :)
Working?? Where?

AAA.... get there early... 9ish... come to the FoF area...look for the Scottish flag... we are easy to find! Beverages are always good... I'll be bringing the usual mimosa's
We will see you then Merlin. Lady Marion really likes the mimosas. Can`t wait till opening canon. Huzzah
Sadly, we will not be able to make it for opening, but we WILL be there the very next weekend, for the special festivities!
Merlin, he'll be working for Majikah Perfumery (Not sure where their booth is)
Rani, YAY!!!!

Majikah is the 2nd booth to the left just before you cross the Elephant/Camel bridge. I know this because that's where I work too! YAY! The good news is that it's much bigger than the cart at TRF.
I thought that's the one you worked at, Raevyncait. Scarby needs to update their faire map to indicate shop numbers and locations more clearly.
My self and master Dorian will be there almost every weekend! Lord Jacob will be there a few weekends :) We can't wait to see everyone.
I'm hoping for Opening Weekend, but nothing is sure at this point. I've gotta move in May so...this season will be just have to play by ear.
Moving ain't no big deal... every morning, Nim makes me move my arse out of the bed and go to work...

Ive begun preparations for a trip down for opening weekend :)
its been a few years..... far too long!
We will be there opening and second weekend for sure. Will be dragging grand-hobbits along on opening Saturday, will just be the two of us Sunday. Looking forward to seeing everyone this year. Seems like a lot has happened over the last year. It'll be wonderful to escape to our Scarby!
It will depend on how work works for us. Since we will be there 2nd weekend, opening weekend is iffy. We aren't getting the FOF pass this year since we added fuzzlet to the family. We are planning on going at least 2-3 times this year though.
Did I already say we'll be there for opening?
I think so, Doña. You're the one that twisted my arm to come down that weekend as well as the next!

Opening weekend....yup...I'll be there
I want to see the new construction where the fire was. I haven't seen any updated photos in a long time.
Be there Opening weekend and Preview weekend. ;D Maybe we can see how it is going on that end of the faire. Are you going preview weekend Merlin?
This will be the first year in four that I will not have a Friends of Faire pass...meaning, no Preview Weekend for me.
:(
I had hoped to never not have a FoF pass, but oh well. Can't make all the fun. Life happens. :-\
This will be the first year in four that we haven't attended preview as well...we have the FoF passes, but we will be traveling down both of the next two weekends. Couldn't quite swing three in a row, plus that's a lot of driving!
I won't be there for preview either.
My company is going live with a new operating system Friday through Sunday and I am responsible for that.
WE'll likely miss the preview too. We like to go to the Norman Medieval Faire on that same weekend, it's a great place to get real good prices on garb and accessories with tons of vendors and they are very competitive. That way, we have new garb for opening weekend!!!
Well who IS going to be there for the preview besides me??
I will be by my self and will want some company. I am vary shy in real life Even though I have been coming to scarby for years and been on this forum too I still don't know more the 2 people there.
I do this every year to myself. I make plan to meet some of you guys but i always chicken out at the last minute.
I was there opening day last year for the tall gate thing you do, but I just stay in my car the whole time.
NOT THIS YEAR!!!
I was extremely shy at first as well, BPB. The first R/Fers I met were the Doña and the Lady Kett. Now, I've got more Rennie friends than I can shake a wand at! Opening Day should be fun! Get out of the car!
Hey I came up and said hello on Opening day even though I was scared of the 'evil' wizard :)

We got FOFs again this year so we'll be attending the preview and just about every weekend. See you
all at faire.
FOF passes for the two of us as well. Unless something really unusual happens, I will be there every day including the preview day.
Hollie should be out for the preview and one or two days most weekends.
Also, look me up at the Wolfhound booth at NTIF.
This will be my first time at NTIF without a Wolfhound - Einstein passed away just before Christmas - heart problems.
But, I will have our new family member, Aero, a Scottish Deerhound with me.

Nooo... She said EVIL...not FOXY
Preview weekend is April 1st? Yep...I may go.
Received our permanent FOF passes today!!! We may change our minds about attending the preview as we are going to Norman on the Friday of that weekend which would leave us free on Sunday. Can't wait to see everyone. Over the last several years we have met fewer NEW friends than in the past. We met Merlin and his esteemed Elder last season and hope to meet more of our RFer friends this season. We will be there opening Saturday (and have to miss Sunday because it's Easter with our other world family) and then we will be there both days of 2nd weekend. Hoping to make every weekend for the first time ever. Although, can someone do something about the skyrocketing gas prices??? Don't the oil companies know it costs money to go to Faire!?
We will be there every day! Still deciding on FOF picnic though. And BagPipeBabe - on the assumption you are local in the DFW Area, we could try to plan a weekend lunch or dinner to meet you in less of a crowd so that morning tailgate isn't so full of scary wizards! PM me if you're interested - I promise neither Sidekick or I bite!
Careful, BagpipeBabe....she does TOO bite! (*** "scary wizards," my gecko! ***)
You have a gecko? Cool. I wish you could bring it with you. ;D
Opening Day can't get here quick enough for me.
Normally, I'd be in total agreement with you, Doña, but this year, I've got a lot to get ready. It should prove to be an awesome year.
Have we decided on drink and food for opening day? My vote is a lot of each !
I know you, son...keeping you sober will be a chore. Opening weekend, we'll be traveling without extra passengers. They'll be along the following week... I'll fill my ice chest with Harp for Kett, Granny Smith-flavoured Woodchuck Hard Cider for Angus, some Jack of the Daniel for me, Coke & Fresca...what else do I need?
That's going to be Easter weekend. I hope there are no peeps hanging about. Will there be an Easter Ale Hunt?
Anyone coming up from the south might stop at that Czech place (wherever it is) and bring some of their treats! MMmmm! Had some at Sherwood last weekend!
Whatever! Just looking forward to seeing all the folks that didn't get down to Sherwood for opening weekend.
Look forward to seeing you there Merlin. Da both of yaz.
Back at ya Angus!
I'll bring some kolachis or how ever you spell it.
And some scotch and Ugly Pug Scottish Stout.
I'll also bring some champagne and orange juice.
I can hardly wait ! ! !
Dad...I think I'll find a lil snort of some Forty Creek for you to try.... it's really good.
DC mentioned the Forty Creek as well... I must check it out! How is that Ugly Pug? My niece's boyfriend is publishing a new music mag down in DFW area and had their ad in it.
Ugly Pug is the best stout I've ever had. Slightest touch of sweetness... absolutely incredible.
They also make one called Iron Thistle but it's seasonal.... also a very good stout.
On Wednesdays and Saturdays from 5-7:30... you can go to their brewery and pay 7$ to get a tour of the place... a nice pint glass with Rahr Brewery etched on it...and your choice of 3 different beers while you walk around.
Well worth 7$
Looks like cowgrrl & I will be there Opening Day, along with a gaggle of family members in tow, so we most likely won't make the tail-gate...we don't want to scare them off ;)
Also, as some of you know, I play the doumbek with a group out of Isis' Studio, which puts on the Ivanhoe stage belly dance show. I found out a few weeks ago that I'll be playing for the stage show this year, most likely just about every Sunday. I'll try to post the exact days when I find them out...which may not be until a week or two before faire starts.
Awesome news Al.... come to the tailgate anyways...you can't scare people like us. We've got weapons !
Merlin, I'm not worried about them scaring you...it's the other way around! ;)
Seriously though, I doubt if we can get everybody there in time anyway, plus we don't want to miss the opening gate improv. If we happen to walk past you though, we will stop ;D
My boy and I will be busy sampling various libations .... Congrats on the gig, by the way!

Ya see.... we wizards do not know how to behave.... it's not that we don't want to...just don't know how.
It's funner that way.

As I'm still short a pair of boots, it looks like I'll be missing opening weekend, unless I come dressed as a 'dane...something I REFUSE to do.
Maybe I'll order a pair of temp boots, if they can get here before the 7th...
If you are wearing a kilt don't let the boots keep you from coming in grab. Plaid or canves or brelap leggings will make normal work books look fairly period. just bring the matteral around between the soul and the heel and then wrap around so they cover the lacing and top of the boots.

So, I posted earlier that I would be playing drums this year on the Ivanhoe for the Star Dancers show. So far, the only day I know for sure I will be there is this Sunday. (Barring any major injury, I will be out to play a lot more, probably mostly Sundays.)
Show times are at 10:30, 12, 2, 4 & 5:30. Hopefully we will not have the dancing mermaid show, plus the wet stuff is bad for drums and really hard to play in!
got in late today, but I did get to see sarah mullen, the harpist, and did a few court dances. In a hotel nearby so I should be able to get there in time for tailgate/opening for tomorrow. As for tonight, contra dance in dallas!
Wow, what an openeing day!
I know I missed a few people, I saw Elo briefly at Hugh O'Neil's show but didn't get a chance to say hi.
I apologize if I passed up anyone who saw me. Got to meet Triple A, a great gentleman. Merlin and Lady Nimue looked splendid despite the warm weather. Merlin the younger and his lady Ouida were dressed to the nines, I was so glad that they could make it.
Archer and Lady Elaine were very gracious and a lot of fun. Lady Amy (Aimee?) was gorgeous, and courageous, in her new white Tudor gown. Drac didn't look too bad either, LOL. It is always good to see Lady Kett and Sidekick, they are a lot of fun. Bagpipe Babe (Cinda) was wearing a new and beautiful Tudor gown as well.
I might have left out a few names....not intentional by any means.
Tartanic had a once in a lifetime show.
If you were there at 10:30, you know what I mean. :o
Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible next week.
Who got wet on Sunday?
Funny you should mention that... we had to leave early so as to make it home. It was rumbling as we pulled away shortly past 2pm. When I was filling Homer, the Odyssey, for the trip home, I thought I'd been hit, the lightning struck so close. As we pulled out onto the highway, the bottom dropped out. I saw some really evil looking cloud formations too...there weren't any more tornadoes in the area, were there?
If it rained as hard at Scarby as it did on the highway, you must have looked like drowned rats! But, hope everyone came through it okay.
As opening days go, it was really great! A bit warm for my taste, but I enjoyed the sleet at Sherwood...I am a warped wizard, to be sure. Archer and his bride made a surprise visit to Scarby, and pardon my correction, Doña, but Archer's wife is Moyra on the boards, and Caroline in person, but yeah...we had a great time showing them around, and they enjoyed your company as well! The four of us went out to dinner after the faire, then came back to the Hampton and had cocktail hour...or two. We talked behind everyone's back, and you'll be pleased to know, not a nasty word was spoken about anyone!
BagpipeBabe, I hope you're getting over your shyness. These people will suck the shy right out of your being. I'm a total introvert, if you can imagine that!
I think Nimue would like an 8x10 (if that is large enough) of the photo that was taken—I think that's what Doña Catalina is referring to—at the Tartanic show.
Genta, didn't catch you, but not sure I would have know you. I believe we were driving behind you as you pulled out of the parking lot Saturday...I saw Minnesota plates.
Met a few new people...BryanPop, I think? ...Please pardon if I've gotten names mixed up...I don't always hear everything people are saying...
yep mn plates on a red suzuki sx4. I'm probably the only one crazy enough to drive to/from mn. I only saw teach and saw var in the parade. I got in late, about 1030 or so. Oh and I was the only person wearing a purple elizabethan tall toad hat. Did a lot of dances, saw some music and walked around a lot.
maybe I'll be back for memorial day heat stroke, but probably only if I have a carpool lol. Otherwise... Until next year.
I meant to mention also... I had a couple of folks stop me (at different times) and say hello on the Holly Field end of Scarby Saturday morning...both Scots, if I remember correctly. You had me at a distinct disadvantage. If we had crossed paths before, I have had a R.A.M. failure in that portion of my brain. As we parted, Nimue asked "who was that?" and I was forced to reply "I haven't a **expletive deleted** clue." Many of you don't post your photo as your avatar, and some post photos that were current during the Reagan years... Help an old phart out! ;)
If you did speak to me this weekend, please let me know who you are on the boards...it will help to slow down the commitment proceedings...
One other plug, then I'm going to bed so that I can get back up in 6 hours...
Danielle Guinn, the new Scarborough marketing guru, is an absolute and total delight. And stay tuned, because I'm going to be saying a whole lot of things about her next week, and they'll all be nice. She has really been wonderful ...and incredibly patient... helping Nim and I with our big party....
I promised Lady Kett that I'd post something stupid...
Okay, Luv, how's this? Explain to me how Sidekick is going to participate in forming a sword arch, and walk under it at the same time? He's got to do it at least twice this year, so I must assume he's figured out how...I'll need an answer by Saturday...

Who got wet on Sunday?
I got a bit wet running back to the BDT shop after our 2 o'clock show about 2:30, as it was just beginning to come in. It rained pretty hard for about half an hour. We had to get back out into it to go get food, but it wasn't too heavy by then. It pretty much stopped by about 3:45 when we had to prep for the 4 o'clock show. We did get sprinkled on during the last 2 shows, but it didn't last long. All in all we stayed pretty dry for as wet as it was!
Master Dorian felt the need to walk in and Jump in every puddle he saw.

A child after my own heart! It did rain. We hung out under the pavilion near the Captains Pub for a bit, then wandered out with Prodigal Daughter and friends in tow to see some shows. We didn't make it to Pub Sing though. The temp had dropped enough that being damp also meant being cold, LOL.
Merlin - that's Sidekick's problem. I happen to be on good terms with a few wizards. If he can't figure it out, he'll have to choose. We can just hope he chooses the right option each day! :)
It was so great to see everyone this weekend and meet some new folks! I really do not want to go back to the real world this morning!!

Yep....walked by us with that "dazed" look on your face. I waved, but had a face full of chicken at the time and couldn't say anything. Hehe. The Lady was dressed as a fairy on Saturday, so you would not have recognized us anyway. Sounds like we missed a number of folks. Just chilling ourselves and not paying much attention to anything in particular as we only had a few hours of sleep Friday night. Loverly weather and an awesome drive from Houston with all the wild flowers in bloom.
No more tornadoes, but the Faire was a chilly mudpit by the end of day. Had some FABULOUS diehards that stuck it out all the way through. We entertained people huddled under pavilions, encouraged them to play in mud puddles, sang and danced in the rain.
The cast plays in rain or shine! Thanks to those who stayed!
I'm not sure of the purple mage to whom I spoke in the lanes (with the potion bottles round his neck) but we both established ourselves as readers here on forum by quoting posts of Spell Books and Newts...
So the gypsy with the fancy headpiece (along with several others, including the grumpy fellow in the red turban) was Me - aka Jofranka Whispersteppe.
Marga
That would be my fellow wizard Alerrick Afon Adou.
I still haven't caught up to you, Captain! If we hadn't been facing a 5+ hour drive home Sunday afternoon, we would have been there for the puddles. But, we'll be back this weekend... Tell me where you hide, Marga!
By the way... someone forgot the parade Sunday... The first time in a while that I was camera ready, too! Shucks! :D

As Jofranka the Gypsy, I'm quite recognizable - the only one wearing a Russian Crown. In blue/green most of the time, this year with a striped coat of blue/gray over green skirt (most of the time). On rare days I may be in yellow chemise over black/rust skirt. Yellow hand flags in parade.
I'm in Country dance outside the gates at 1030 am, in Parade at 1, Gypsy Extravaganza at 330 on Turtle Drome, Country dance at 4, then pub sing for the rest of the day.
I DID see you, Merlin, in 'danes, but knew it was you. You just didn't recognize me.
Marga/Jofranka

You probably saw me when we were looking for my lost sister. I thought I saw a familiar looking couple but I really needed to find her since she is diabetic.
Let's see, who all did I see this weekend?
Saturday I saw Dona Catalina & the Don both in the parking lot, and at the shoppe, as well as on the way back to the parking lot, at which time I begged for assistance loosening my corset as I waited for my ride to make her way to the gate. On the way out Saturday I saw Merlin the Elder & Nimue, and umm, I've totally lost who was sitting with you, Archer perhaps?
I managed to steal a moment with Her Majesty Queen Margaret Saturday as well
Sunday I saw Marga before she left the hotel, Elo, and umm, I'm sure someone else, but I've no clue at the moment, as I was sleep deprived by then.
BryanPopp was down the hall at the Super8, as usual, and dinner Friday night was well, amusing.
What a Great opening weekend. I meet alot of wonderful people. It was a great pleasure to meet all of you. Scarborough looked great. weather was nice. .
Where do I start?
Well DonaCatalina is a wonderful (beautiful)Lady. I love your green dress you looked Fabulous
Merlin and lady Ouida were dressed to the hilt.
Merlin the Elder and Nim were looking splendid
Bagpipebabe was looken fine in her new dress
CaptMarga it was a real pleasure talking with you and your gypsy friends in the lanes, about spells and newts. We will keep the newts under lock and key as to not have any more problems.I should have showed you my bottle for that ingredient.
I know that I am forgetting some of you,I meet so many new people this weekend it`s kinda overloading the brain. Please don`t be offended if I left you out.I can`t wait till opening cannon.....................Huzzah
Raevyncait, that was indeed Archer and Moyra.
I saw a few folks, but no one really from the boards except who I was with, and Meggers. Then again we did so much walking and kilting of a newbie that we could of quite easily missed so many, lol! I'm trying to make the cards work for one more weekend, we shall see what kind of deals I can get on tickets :D
Dang, Riot! There were lots of us! I missed a few, like Teach and Meggers, but I'll get to see Megan Saturday...

I did see Teach and Trin.. saw Megan and got to meet her mom as well.
Seeing as i'm new here. I think the only person I recognized was merlin the elder riding by on the carriage at one point.
To meet the "gang," you need to try to make tailgate, and wander up row 12. Saturdays are probably best, and you should find Don Juan de Cordoba and Dona Catalina, the Lady Kett and Sidekick at the very least. Watch for people with the R/F pin. They can be your friends. :)
<nod nod> we are always looking for new friends in Row 12! :)
We now have pewter name tags that say Lady Kett & Sidekick!
