Anyone in the area organizing one? I'd be glad to, but five of us are coming from nearly 500 miles away...that's 2500 RenMiles, or 17,500 in dog miles (?w?t?f?)... In lieu of any other ideas, we'll plan on being in the parking lot by about 9:00 am Saturday. ;)
EDIT: I realize that 14 days out, the forecasts can be way off, but as of today, opening day is supposed to be partly sunny, with a high of 54° and a low of 36°
That may be chilly for some, but I LIKE that!
I'd be up for it if I was coming out. I have to check but I may have to do RHPS that night, if not, I will attempt to make First Weekend.
Well, we are in the same motel, so we can hookup for leaving together or whatnot. If we can get a gathering going, Milady Gryphon promises to bring true English scones, from her very guarded old family recipe. :)
What hotel is that?
We're camping at the Quality Inn in Bastrop, lad. Did you decide to come for opening?
It's still a day to day decision...but if we can make it...we'll stay at the same hotel
Well, I was thinking about camping for opening weekend, but after digging around in my camping gear today, I decided (about an hour ago) that a motel sounded better! Bastrop is actually a little farther from my house than the faire is, so I will be camping at America's Best Cheap Inn near Giddings, about 12 miles from the fairegrounds.
Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Are you sure the motel ( or the world, for that matter ) is ready for two Wizards and a Darklord/Pirate? ;D
I know I'm not... Zardoz is the smart one...he'll be in another town...

Since I will be checking the weekend campers around that time Saturday morning, I'll stop by to say hello. Since I have to prepare the Seven Sisters before opening, I can't stay too long in the parking area.
If you happen to see an old phart raking leaves and cleaning up the stone circle, stop by and say hello. Saturdays I wear my kilt and Sunday my English peasant garb (or reverse if I feel like it).
I'll be more than pleased to stop and say hello, M...you were kind enough to introduce yourself to me at last year's opening. I just hope I can get my crew together to be there by 9! Our traveling companions have only ever been to one faire each, two are our regular companions to Scarby, and the other has only been to OkRF. So, they may appear to be like deer in the headlights.
Lord Dragon, don't you go scaring my friends... :)
HEY....I don't bite....
Well....not hard....
Well, not unless you ask nicely.....
Oh, nevermind...... 8)

Well, there's always something happening in the Zardoz vortex ;)
I'm told a lot of faire folks use the place I'm staying, we'll see... In any event I'm not gonna be around there much except to shower and sleep.

There's a reason for that, besides the faire. It's not a 5 star establishment. Alex had to stay there overnight a few years ago, and he said it was not nice. However, that was after a very stressful day so I'm sure it was skewed somewhat.
I'm up for a tailgate! Alex and I will be camping with PR, so we will be up and ready very early! I cannot wait to finally meet a good bit of all of you ;D
From what I could tell on the map, Gidding, Bastrop, and Elgin are all within 20 minutes or so, and Bastrop offered the most options. We stayed in Bastrop last year. I think we'll be going back to that Mediterranean restaurant again...
If we leave Bastrop by 8:30, we should be tailgating by 9! :D
They did not get the pass through from the camp grounds to the main parking area built this year, so anyone from the camp grounds who intends to go in through the main front gates will have to drive around.
Fingers crossed that they get this project funded for next year.
I'm leaving my house at about 7:30 to make it to faire on time. I know it's about 1 1/2 hours to my grandparents in Giddings and about 20 mins past that to get to the faire. (Here's to hoping that I finally make it to see the opening gate.)
QuoteI think we'll be going back to that Mediterranean restaurant again...
Must give us direction to said restaurant. I am so sick of call out pizza when we get back. Do you know of any other good places to eat close by? We'll be staying Sunday night as well, so need someplace to eat two nights.
See you soon.
We'll just all have to go there one of the nights. I've got to remember the name of it so I can see if they're open on Sunday night, too...
edit: Cedar's Mediterranean Grill (http://www.cedarsmedgrill.com/index.html)
Only open for lunch on Sunday... so Friday or Saturday night, eh?
Is this where we went last year lad?
Yeah... up for it again?
We will be getting in sometime friday night, estimating around 6-8 PM, depending on my motivation.
<<<<<< not really a morning person and it's a 10 hr drive )
So, we are open to meetup and dinner late Fri., Sat evening or Sunday. Or all 3. ;D
<<<< Still fixated on a Hot Tub invasion with cocktails in tow. ;D
Not a morning person?!? This thread is about tailgating, which is a morning activity... :D
I really only rise at that gawdawful hour for Faire. ;D
9 is when I normally eat lunch...seriously!
We both have the same schedule. They are just Yin/Yang opposites. ;)
I'm with Lord Dragon on this. Breakfast should be served promptly at noonish! Faires and concerts are the only time I get up before 8am of my own free will.

Indeed! We shall take over the land of the daywalkers... As soon as we sleep until noon, then take a nap on the couch around 3! Fear our slow and groggy eyed revolution!
Since we will be camping with PR, I'm sure we will run into y'all, whether it's tailgating or at the M&G after the parade (are we still doing that this year?). Can't wait to see everyone!

Yeah, how about that Meet & Greet ?
I'm going to try to make the tailgate party, if just to say hello.
As for the M&G after parade, with my Daughter and Son-in-Law, I will join in Robin's Feast, which includes some adult beverages. Hummmm, seriously doubt I'll make the M&G.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Polly, if you're going to the feast opening day I'll be there as well!
Yep, February 11 at 1:00 p.m. We get to be the guinea pigs, oops, I mean first guests to the finest feast to be found in the Shire. After that I doubt I will remember much else from opening day. ;)
Had we been traveling by ourselves, I would have gotten us tickets for this, but I didn't want to commit for our companions, nor abandon them.
A little late to the party here, but we're always up for a morning tailgate. We will try to hit the parking lot by 9. We are staying at Ye Olde Super 8 in Bastrop. Dinner dates on Saturday are do-able -- we will get in too late on Friday and will head home Sunday afternoon.
My Rennie Math says we have 4 days left!
Your Rennie math sounds about right... Dinner Saturday night would be fun...we'll be toting 5 newbies along to faire, it appears. We're bringing 3, and 2 are coming up from San Antonio, nieces of one of our traveling companions. I'll let someone else arrange any dinner gathering this year—I had duty last year—and trying to keep my group semi-organized is enough for me right now.
We're in, and Merlin, we can tote two in our vehicle if you need an extra taxi.
I don't know anywhere over there to even call, but the One place you posted sounds real good.
I'm bringing Scones with me for Saturday Morning. Two flavors: raisin and tart cherry. Should be plenty for everyone, and not to be missed.
Thanks for the offer, but as far as know, they will meet us at the faire, likely after cannon. I cannot for the life of me think of the name of the gentleman at Cedar's that was so helpful last year. if that's where you wish to go. Seems we had a party of 16 or so last time.
Any other takers?
I wish that I could join you. Have a few for me.
I can almost guarantee that my sorry arse will not be up in time for the morning tailgate..soooooo....I will just see everybody inside the gates. ;D

My group will be out early in the parking lot, and if we don't see you then, we'll search you all out inside!

At all. Plus, yer old and a lil breakable. :P

Any new details on a M&G? Or is it just an understood rule? LOL
I don't think I have seen anything official. I figure there are two options...
We can meet after the parade at the 7 sisters (where it ends)
We can meet at the beginning of the parade at the Jerusalem Pub
What does everyone think?
*I go where the rum goes*
Since it's out first time to Sherwood, we shall appear when directed. In other words, someone make the decision and let us know.
Seven Sisters sounds good to me...Someone will bound to be carrying, Teach... :D
I like the seven sisters plan as well. Gives the ones in the parade a chance to visit everyone as well. And... unlike TRF and Scarby we don't have to wait around for the ones in the parade to come back and visit.
Also gives me a chance to video the parade as it comes down the lane
*and the rum shall flow*
Seven Sisters after the parade it is. If memory serves, that's usually a little after 1PM.
Really looking forward to seeing everyone!
Don't want to sound dramatic, but after everything I've been though in the last several months I can't really express how much I need to be out in the forest with all you folks. I feel like I never get to spend enough time with y'all.
I will make sure to drag the PP, Fuzzlet, our two friends (Tyrod and Joe) to the gathering. Tyrod and Joe are camping with PR.
Someone asked me if we were taking Fuzzlet to faire with us. I laughed. I have a feeling if we didn't there would be some rather 'upset' people about. ;D
Garb is pulled out and repaired. Items are getting washed and packed. I even stopped sewing on my sewing machine (which says something) so that I spend time getting ready to go. :: bounce bounce:: is it time yet? :D

I'm feeling the same way, my friend. Just returned a few minutes ago from a funeral for someone I'd known longer—over 56 years—than anyone else in my life, other than immediate family. It was his time, he was tired—that happens when you turn 92—so although I'm sad because I'll miss him, I'll try not to grieve as he advances to whatever the next step may be.
SwFF is coming at just the right time for me too, Zardoz. See you soon!
Well then it looks like I won't make the M&G as that's the the Feast starts and I have tickets for the first sitting.
:-\
Well, it's like Lady Rosanne de Rosannadana would say, "It's always something!" We could do it Sunday, too...
At some point this season I am going to do that feast as well. It sounds grand.
I think no matter which time it is there is always going to be a scheduling issue. But we can do it both days and hopefully get everyone that way!
*two chances to drink rum with friends... I'm ok with that plan!*
You have my vote for both days Teach! It will give anyone who is coming later on in the day to avoid the nippy mornings a chance to meet all.
We will do our best to be there at that time both days.
And for those (like us ) who do not care for nippy of any variety (save for nippy off a bottle )
We cheat and use these now: http://www.wintersilks.com/ (http://www.wintersilks.com/)
Well, that and getting caught in rain and cold last year at TRF and ending up with both of us terribly sick.....;) They are light enough that if it happens ot be warmer than anticipated, they do not smother a person.
(BTW Teach.....I am bringing what I call "Kraken Blood" I hope actually it will be something you have not tried before.... ;D )
*Yes, tis RUM. ;) *
Our newly reserved hotel in Bastrop shows us being around 17 miles away from Sherwood, so we should be at tailgate at a decent time. :)
Which hotel, Maeven? We're in Bastrop as well at the Quality Inn... It's a little bit of a drive to faire. Part of the drive, thru the Bastrop State Park, was pretty last year, but I think the fire destroyed most of the park.
I'm so being a bum and not going through 5 pages of posts....
What time is the tailgate? (I'm going to do my best to be there)
And if we have a M&G both days I will be there on Sunday! *hint hint* ;D
i think most people will be hanging out around 9, if I remember the last 5 pages right :P. Meet and greet was after the parade at 7 sisters.
We might need to build a campfire in the parking lot! :D But, yes... 9:00 am.

Yeh, I'll discuss that face-to-face
::) You do know I'm kidding, right?!?
I might be coaxed forth for morning tailgating...possibly. Just gotta get from the campgrounds to Front Gate....
It's 5:41 a.m. right now. in about 34 minutes, we'll be leaving to come see you, Elo... DON'T think 9:00 a.m. is TOO EARLY to BE UP... oh, sorry, Luv...did I wake you? :P
Well, so much for making it by 9. We MIGHT hear the cannon as we pull in! See y'all inside
Sad that I could not make the tailgate, but was busy cleaning up the Seven Sisters and getting folks settled in the Patrons campgrounds. I really missed meeting all of you and look forward saying hello.
It's okay, Mike... It was less of a tailgate than I had hoped... I think the cold kept the wimps at bay! ;) :P We DID get to see you later inside...might have even been Sunday... Such an awesome weekend for me, I can't keep it all straight! Thanks!
Merlin,
It was great to meet you and Nimue and Zardoz and Allerick and everyone else at opening gate and inside Saturday and Sunday.
Since you are posting today, I take it that Homer got you all home safely. Huzzah!
I have to say the fuzzlet, the PP and I were there for the tailgate. Couldnt' get out of the car because Fuzzlet needed to eat before cannon. We were half frozen but we had a blast.
Yes, arrived home safely. It rained pretty much all the way, but not hard. Despite predictions to the contrary, we hit no frozen precipitation on our return. Homer, the Odyssey, has great visibility, for which I'm thankful in inclement weather.
I don't think I've ever had that much fun with my clothes on! I wish I could come back this season.
The PP and I were discussing on the way home what we could do better for next year. Me I'm adding a flannel partlet, flannel bloomers, and long wool socks. I am also thinking of making a wimple or muffin hat for me. I HATE my ears being cold. I don't care how I looked I was warm!
The PP said he would remember to bring his gloves. That stinker was nice and toasty under that heavy pirate coat. The Fuzzlet seemed ok, but next year we are thinking a scottish highlander dress made from Flannel, with a nice muffin hat, tights, and her own baby boots. Though I have a feeling I made be altering that plan to make sure she still has a baby pink pirate outfit to wear around. And I think we may camp next year. fingers crossed.
