Allrighty, we are T-minus 7 months before the new party in Canterbury begins............so with that in mind, what is everyone looking forward to the most at faire in terms of your favorite act? What are your three favorite acts? I actually think I might have a new favorite going into 2012 too...........
Jolly Rogers - duh. Everyone lists these lovable alcoholic pirates. Best stage presence at KCRF, know how to work a crowd, encourage audience participation, and are an exceptional act.
Musical Blades - Hoping they are around all season at KCRF so they can at least net a good stage. Seeing them on Merlins Bern with all that sun sucked, but they were still awesome. Still work a crowd like no other and are so damned funny.
And my new one in 2012..........Who Doth Proclaim This Anyways by The Full Monty- if you havent seen it, GO. Funniest act in Canterbury, they are so funny. Amazing.
Can't wait for a good cool October Sunday to see the Pub Sing, and hoping chess will be back!
I really enjoyed "The Peoples Court with the Lord Mayor" every morning! Lots of fun, and always different!
Like KCDCCHEF, The Full Monty was lots of fun!
Of course, my favorite continues to be Ogrot. I would have liked it if they had done more audience participation this last season, but we'll see next year.
Always enjoy the Musical Blades, and always enjoy the Scallywags.
Did not like the Smoker. I guess I'm more modest than I thought I was.
Try to catch the Feaste of Fooles once a year. This year it was a bit different, but I liked it alright!
Some year, I will go to the Halloween Feast.
Yay! Hello everyone!!
My favorite act is Jason Divad!
Does the parade count as an act? I love the parade. I like to catch it twice by running ahead :)
I also make quite a specticle of the eating - hehe ;D

SCORE!! Tamtaro's back!!!!!
Well, I talked with my nephew in KC the other day. His honey is REAL excited about getting dressed up to go to faire. Not sure if she's going to talk the nephew into it before we get up there, though ... I don't expect 2012 to be our year for KCRF, but we're tentatively adding it to our 2013 calendar. Looks like he lives about 30 minutes from the faire...
keep me posted Merlin, would LOVE to meet you.

you can come armed to KCRF, they do allow swords and weaponry. but require them to be peace tied at the gate.
wonderful faire. i travel 1,100 miles each October to see it. has kept the authenticity that so many other faires have lost, woodchips, very little electrical,, very accurate faire and i love it.
You crack me up, Merlin! ;D
Thanks for the welcome back kcdcchef!! I'm so excited about the nice spring-like weather we're getting here in Missouri. It makes me think festival can't be far off. (190 days till KCRF!)

Gauwyn, we'll definitely coordinate with you when we are able to make the trip. This year in October, we'll be heading east for RenDezvous. I don't know if we can swing the additional time needed to hit KCRF. The college requires that I do spend at least
some time in the office. Some of my coworkers will be coming to Scarby in April. I'm hoping to turn them on to faire.
Tamtaro, I'm glad I crack you up. Most people just think
I'm cracked. I'm not sure that a person of your tender years knows that expression, but in my younger days, being cracked is the same as being nuts... Regardless, I am dying to see that infectious smile of yours in person. It cheers me up every time I see it!
KCDC...Aren't you a band, or am I thinking of someone else.... ::) Be careful what you wish for, KC...you might get it.
Merlin, we are progressing to Carolina for rendezvous also. I believe Butch may also attend.
As we say in the more agricultural areas...."Farm Out!"

bring it on my very ancient friend! cannot wait. really would lie to meet you.
tamtaro, hate this Godawful warm weather. it should be cold and snowy from nov1-april1 so i can enjoy the ONLY thing i love more than the rennfaire, SKIING!!!!! this horrid weather is messing with ski season!

Hey, I remember that. We, too, used to say farm out ( instead of far out ), then at the college I went to they had a program called Farm Operation or Farm Op, so we began to say "farm op".
Right arm!!
Gawd it's good to find someone as weird as me, Gauwyn! It's really outa-state!
you guys ever see the 80's flick "Better Off Dead", with John Cusack? David Ogden Stiers played the dad, and was trying to learn slang.
"Come on Lane, Mellow Off!!"
"Man you're really bringing me over"/
Right OFF!!!!!!"
Great flick.
Merlin, definitely post when you're gonna be out here, we'll try to coordinate something! Yes, Gauwyn, his family, and mine hit it off pretty early! At KC, aside from the infectiously jubulant Tamtaro, we also have Gem as a regular in our lanes. We try to meet all of our RF.com bretheren; we've met so many. The Baron and Baroness of (man, where's my memory?), Lord and Lady Spicer,...and so many more, wow I can picture faces but cannot remember names!
The one thing I've found that the KCRF does better than most is staying in character. The actors do not come out of the period for anything. I feel that adds a lot to the ambiance.
Although KCDCChef has been coming to the KCRF for like DECADES, I have yet to meet him! Maybe someday!
And yes, we are planning on being at the RenDezVous with everyone else this year. Last year's was such a hoot; I only hope this one will be half as nice!

agreed on the characters never breaking, it's awesome. a very wonderful young lady who was my girlfriend in the 90's, then i moved to east coast, she sent me letters during 9/11 wondering if i lived through it, we meet up on FB 2 years ago and are both floored that i've been going for 30 years and she's been working there for 3, are both excited to say hello to one another after 14 years of silence. run into her, she WON'T BREAK CHARACTER TO SAY HELLO TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
butch agreeed, after 31 seasons, it's time we meet.
I heard Limeybirds are NOT going to be at St. Louis Ren Fest :'( Will they be at KCRF? They are super-limey and delicious! I wish we could have a super-secret (aka not secret) preview of what performers and shows are being lined up!!
go on the performers page, it's where I go to be "in the know" on what's coming!
I love the Limeybirds, that would be so cool if they would come to KC :)
I've just found out that the weekend of Sept. 22nd and 23rd is going to be a steampunk weekend (as well as Threads of Time
(Irish Fest, and Legend Quest weekend) and that's super exciting for me and my steampunk club.
In fact, the reason there is a steampunk weekend is because of an awesome woman who is having a Dr. Who themed wedding in the Tradewinds Pirates Cove! She asked management if they would have a steampunk themed weekend and they finally said yes. I will be going that weekend and possibly the weekend after as well.
I think KCRF just put a link up on facebook about tickets on sale, and it's starting to feel like faire time!
Just bought my son's and my season passes this week! Wheee!

Happy dance!! (Jealous dance!! :D) Cashing in the change jar for my season pass is an annual ritual - it's not feeling quite there yet (the change jar, not my ren fest giddies!!), but it will be sooooooon! ;D
And P.S. 2 months till the gates of Canterbury open!! Yippeeeee!
a mere 8 weeks to go!
Thanks for the suggestions on acts. Looks like I'll be able to make it to KCRF this fall. I don't recognize many of the names except the Tulstin Troubadors. Can anybody else recommend more acts to see/hear?
The Jolly Rogers - it's just what KCRF is known for. One of their original acts and one of the funniest ever. Very bawdy pirate humor and just an all around fun group. Very entertaining.
Musical Blades- same as above, original KCRF group, funny pirate stuff. VERY funny pirate stuff. Crowd sings along with their stuff because they've been there so long.
Pub Sing- end of day at Three Lions. All acts come together, and it's hilarioius. You'll laugh so hard. All the acts participate.
Anything on Three Lions Stage. Always funny stuff.
Washer Well Wenches - most faires have a show like them, but they're still funny as hell.
Axel the sot - funny FUNNY guy. He's been all around, but he's back in 2012.
One of the Bristol regulars is performing this year at the KCRF. I'm not sure if it's every weekend, or if he is/was there only a few, but he may be there as Tinker McRae or with his trio, Trinkets.
Tinker does Irish and Scottish music and not only sings, but tells you a short background of the songs. He is well-loved at Bristol and has a huge following at his shows.
Worth going to, definitely.
Thank-you Lady Renee! I saw Tinker McRae today, and thoroughly enjoyed him! He's there for the run of the faire, except for Columbus Day weekend. He was by himself today, but will return for the final weekend with his daughter, and will perform as Trinkets, but only 2/3! Yes, catch him if you can!

Friend Butch,
You are spot on in commending the KRF cast for staying in character, regardless of circumstance or provocation. I can tell you from experience that it is an extraordinarily difficult thing to do, and the KC cast is better at it than most other faires. Would that the Duchess and I were as unwavering in our roles!

ditto this. KCRF characters DO NOT break character. I go to faires all over the country, I think KCRF actors might be best at it. They break character all the time at other faires. PGH Renfest this season - love the faire. But many actors have no accent and just have a conversation with you about football or whatever. Great touch.
