Title: Scarborough's Pubs
Post by: DonaCatalina on February 14, 2012, 03:55:56 PM
I have noticed that wine seems to be more of an afterthought this year than ever.
Just look at this listing.
Would it be too much to ask for to have one decent wine that actually gets a listing?

Kings Pub

(Crown Meadow at the Crown Kitchens)

Our largest pub and pavilion. Musicians scheduled throughout the day. Bud, Bud Light, Zeigenbock, Belhaven Stout, Murphy's Irish Red, Spaten Premium, Fireman's 4, Widmer Hefeweizen, Longboard,  St. Arnold Lawnmower and O'Doul's non-alcaholic, wine, Frozen Margaritas and Peach Bellinis

Even the Cat-N-Fiddle which hosts wine tastings mentions wine after the O'Doul's non-alcoholic.

Bit strange isn't it.  But of course I am sure that the barbarian hordes consume much more beer than wine.  Still a listing or two would not hurt.

Apparently the pubs all have their own logo tee shirts also.

and while we are on the subject of wine, is anyone planning on going to a wine tasting this year?
I wish they would post the wines so you could make an informed decision on those.

With the scotch tasting from last year I'm surprised there's not more of the hard stuff on the menu....

We might consider a tasting on opening weekend...I'll have to check and see what they're planning...

Well, Dona, Flynn Markley runs the wine tastings and he is more than willing to talk, at any time, to great lengths, about wine! Just hit him up any day and ask him what wines he's planning on for a particular day. I'm sure he'll at least have an idea what he's planning.

BTW: Queen Anne, Archduchess Sabine and I have made Last Day Wine Tasting a new tradition.
I believe Queen Margaret of Scotland is planning on being there, as well!

We went to our first wine tasting last year and LOVED IT. We're hoping to go to one again this year but plan on playing it by ear to decide which one(s).  <3 Flynn. I'll miss him at the pub sing so we'll just have to go to more wine tastings!  :D

Allow me to invite you and the court to vist the Sunday Archery Tournament its at 5 so maybe you could swing by on the way to the joust.  There are many a fine Welshman shooting, a few good scots and even some English all though as you know the English are poor bowmen at least when pitten against the master Bowmen of Wales.  ;D

I think they are being very cautious about what brands they offer and how much because it is so new to Scarby.

We did it a couple years back and thoroughly enjoyed it. I learned quite a bit about wine, being generally an ale drinker. We would go again.

I've done the wine tasting AND the scotch tasting. Both were very professional settings and lots of information was given... they are both well worth the fee.

Sad but true... it's more than just "going to NASCAR"... I'm one of the elders in a group of 50-75 that go camping together every NASCAR race...we are season ticket holders.

My dad had EVERY other weekend to schedule this but he secretly didn't want me there.

:(  sad face
