Title: An Awesome 10 year old makes a difference in her city
Post by: raevyncait on February 16, 2012, 08:32:58 PM
Any of ya'll who have spent years going to Scarby may remember Sakeeta, who managed the Horn Shoppe for 12 years (he has long white hair).  TRF'ers may recognize him and his wife from their Shoppe near the Joust arena, Estelril Enterprises, where they sell soaps, lotions, shower gels, incenses, and salves, made from his family's Native American recipes and her Celtic family recipes.  Their granddaughter, Allison, is 10 years old. When she came to live with them, at about 3, she didn't talk, pretty much just screamed. They were told that she is Autistic and to expect that she would probably not talk, and would not ever function "normally".

Seven years later, she's doing well in a school that specializes in kids with special needs, and is becoming a community activist. She was featured this evening on the local NBC station for her attempt to improve handicap access at the city parks in her city. She also is the cashier at the TRF shop as well.

Pretty good for a child that was predicted to never even talk...
