I asked my cardiologist about eating one of those... I showed him the picture, and he grabbed his chest. That means he loves them, doesn't it?

Ask him if alcohol will offset the effect of Scotch Eggs.

It's a little-known premise that Jack Daniel's and/or ale will cause cholesterol and other bad juju to evaporate from faire delicacies. Therefore, in the interest of science, I will put that premise to the test.  Memorials may be sent to the Lynchburg, TN Home for Wayward Wizards.

It's pasta I'm craving. I'll traipse from one end of Faire to the other to visit the pasta palace.

I don't ask my cardiologist anything about faire as I'm afraid of what he might answer.
Ignorance is bliss and Faire cures everything.
Except Faire addiction.....

I know that the current favorite amongst the performing company is the pretzel-wrapped sausage that they added a couple of years ago.  It is a good mix of carbs and protein, portable, and not messy.  Not to mention MIGHTY tasty! :)

I tend to lean toward the steak on a stake when I need protein.  If you're nice, they'll cook it to specification, and so I get mine nice and medium rare most of the time.  It is also really good when you put it between two slices of the French booth's cheesy bread.

The pork pocket is pretty awesome too.  I avoided it for years thinking that it would heavy and barbecue-sauce laden, but they don't put sauce on it, they leave that to you.  The meat is always really juicy and tender, very flavourful.

The new gelato booth is a happy-maker too.  LOVE gelato!

Being a Prussian descendent, I always like to hit the German kitchen on the north end near Iris & Rose.

I'm going to have to try the pork pocket. I thought it was sauce heavy too.

After reading this thread Im thinking fair food should be mandatory at least once a week waistlines should be expanded and if I die young (well too late for that) at least my tastebuds will be happy and my belly full.

Gelato booth??? Oh dear, I see some issues for my coinpurse with a gelato booth.... time to start checking under the cushions, just to have some extra stashed away.

Otherwise, I often head over to the gyro booth in Pecan Grove, they're always willing to fix it just as I like it, and it's a reasonable price. *sigh* I miss living where I could get a good gyro on a regular basis...

I'm on a strict diet but when it comes to faire food...the only rule I have is to try and eat it ALL !

Usually eat something at the tailgate...then a stop at the bakery when we first go in...pre-lunch I get a sausage calzone which I think may be one of the best for the money.... then a scottish egg for lunch.... at least one day on the weekend we go to the restaurant and get a shepherds pie.

And of course I like to have a few snacks through out the day as well.

I'm dieting too, these days. I eat nothing that I can't see.

The gelato booth was in Crowne Meadow last year, right down by Crowne Stage near the lower road.  It had the ices too, but if you looked closely, there was a sign listing the gelato flavours that they had that day.  Thing is, it went FAST and they ran out pretty quickly on a couple of the really hot days.  Hopefully they make sure that they get enough this year, because there were a couple of times when I was all set for a nice, creamy coneful of gelato and it was gone *le pout* :)

Danged Italians! I didn't know what gelato meant. It sounded so nasty, I just stayed away. Why don't they just say ice cream? (**fumes...I'm a computer nerd...I don't know all these fancy names for stuff.. ***)  ;)

My "standards" are (in an average day's order) ginger scones at the bakery (almost without fail) - strolling down to catch an early show, then for lunch 'tis a tie between pork pocket and rogue sandwich and turkey leg, then later a scottish egg or stir fry. Occasionally we do the pasta, sausage calzone, shepherd's pie and/or sweet potato fries. We get cinnamon nuts every single trip! I am on a diet too, but not during weekends of April and May while at an English shire in Texas.
