We are headed down there for the first time and were curious where everyone stays? I wasn't sure if there were any after faire hangouts at certain hotels or anything. We can't wait to come here. We have heard great things.
We are very excited to have you! The other people on this forum will be able to tell you better...but there will be discounted rates available at Sleep Inn & Suites in Waxahachie, MGM FunDome in DeSoto, and Hampton Inn & Suites in DeSoto! Any of those would be my recommendation.
What weekend are you coming? I'd like to invite you to our pre-canon tailgate for morning snacks and beverages in the FoF parking area.

Huzzah and welcome to our lovely shire!
I haven't seen a thread yet about hotels; but I believe that the Super 8 is a rennie favorite. The Transylvania Court from TRF will be there opening weekend. I'm sure someone will post soon about where they are staying.
I'll second the tailgate invitation.
I appreciate all of the quick responses. I will have to look into all the hotel choices you all have given me.
Merlin- We will be trying to go opening weekend and would love to attend your precannon tailgate!!
We will be staying at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Waxahachie. Not for opening unfortunately, will be there for Merlin the Elders Vow Renewal weekend April 14-15th.
Super 8 is where we usually are, though I believe a couple of weekends, due to larger groups of us, we're splurging at the Comfort Suites (where we can sleep 6 adults instead of just 4) in Waxahachie.
In previous years, I also had great luck at the Days Inn, Red Oak, which is about 15 minutes or so from faire.
Whatever you do, STAY AWAY FROM THE TEXAS INN. It's the closest place to the site, as it's directly across I-35E at the same exit as the festival. They have NO ground floor rooms (and trust me, you will NOT want to climb stairs at the end of a day at Scarby), all of their rooms face West (this is especially a problem in May when we really start to heat up outside), and, at least at one time, their A/C units were in the BATHROOMS on the east wall of the rooms. The one time we stayed there they didn't bother to tell us they didn't have ground floor rooms, and on Saturday morning, we left our A/C on low speed, knowing that it would be hotter than hell when we got back and hoping to come into a temperate room. Housekeeping or someone turned it OFF, and it was warmer in our room than outside because they'd also left the room darkening drapes open (although the sheers were still closed).

Get to the FoF parking area around 9am and we'll make sure you get something tasty to eat and have a tasty beverage to wash it down. I'll be bringing mimosa's and my Dad will have Jack Daniels...(he always has that on him...and in him)
There will be scotch, wine, loki and I'm sure some non-alcoholic beverages will be sneaked in the camp by someone.
We have stayed at the DeSoto facilities mentioned by Danielle in the past, and at the Red Oak hotel mentioned (though it was a Holiday Inn when we stayed there, I think). DeSoto is a quick shot to faire, but we now stay in Waxahachie, usually at the Hampton, sometimes the Comfort Suites or Holiday Inn Express. All three are 10 minutes or so from faire, all in the middle of all kinds of restaurants, and all a bit wonky to get to, so check your Google Earth.
Opening weekend, I will be carrying ale, hard cider, and Jack Daniel's. Hopefully the supplies will make it until tailgate... ;)
(Merlin stays at teh Hampton cuz Teague has Kraken. ;) )
I second the motion to stay AWAY from the Texas Inn. It isn't pretty over there.
I highly recommend the Hampton Inn. We don't stay at hotels because we drive in every day, but we used to get a place for Memorial Day weekend a lot, and that was our favorite.
Heya, Transylvania chiming in. I believe we will be staying in or around the Super 8, unless something changes.
Funny how prices change from year-to-year. Last year, the Hampton and Holiday Inn were WAY high, and this year, at least Hampton is back down.
Yeah, the prices kind of fluctuate, and I think, honestly, that the closer to season you make the reservation, the prices get a little inflated. I don't know if they FORGET that it's the festival season, or what the deal is. I do know that when I started looking at making the reservations for Opening and Closing weekends at Super8, the online pricing was WAAAY out of whack for the handicap accessible rooms (one of my friends that is usually with me has a scooter that needs charging, so we need enough space to be able to do that), like DOUBLE the price of the same sized non H/A rooms. I contacted Wyndham directly (as they own the brand and franchise it out), because it was only 2 locations in the entire metroplex doing it, and I believe they're owned by the same family, to request clarification and see why the franchisees were being allowed to ignore federal law and charge more just because there are hand rails in the bathrooms, etc. Within days the prices across the board had been raised a dollar or two, but there was no difference in the H/A and non-H/A rooms.
