Title: Real Life names and inevitable occupations...seen any?
Post by: DonaCatalina on July 25, 2012, 09:52:50 AM
If not for Santa Claus's big sister, the twinkly-eyed man in the white beard might be just another Mike. But Wanda Claus Peschel had her way, and today Santa Michael Claus of Mesquite, Texas has a sackful of stories about his unusual name.

Just before I moved to Texas in 1986, a family I knew from church bought the house across the street from my parents.

The husband was a dentist.

His name was Dr. Payne.   :o   ;)   ;D

I really wanted something more feel good to contribute, but ....... there was a doctors office in a strip mall out in Vegas - He had his name in large orange molded letters on the side of the building that as you were driving out tropicana you could only see his last name between other buildings, his last name being Ursick but as you drove along it looked like U R  SICK

Oh and we have a local dentist named Kervorkian.  He doesn't play it up, but he doesn't play it down either.

Back in the early 1980's, I went to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with several of the kids in the family that owned Petz Pets.  (Their last name actually was Petz.)

The store was on the corner of Geyer Springs @ Baseline Rd.  They sold it in 1995.

My great uncle was a butcher with the last name of Burger. You can imagine some of the orders that came over the counter, such as "Gimme some ham Burger."

I had to look that one up. It was too good; but it is also true. Pulaski County voters will p0robably keep him in office as long as he wants.

While we're on the subject, I would be curious to know if a person's name has any effect on what they choose their life's work to be, or if it's simply a matter of chance?

I don't know in general; according to Bud Nailer, who does business with my company, he became a carpenter because his dad was one.

Dr Chopp should have been a surgeon. Now, Peabody would make a good urologist!

While not his actual occupation, my loves last name is Bierbrauer and we are brewing beer. Now if we just got some sheep I could live up to my last name.

Dr. Stopp has been performing vasectomies in Rochester NY for over thirty years, and has done around 39,000 operations.
He's responsible for between one third and one half of the vasectomies in Rochester in any given year during his time in practice.
