Title: the Fest Grounds 2012
Post by: escherblacksmith on August 18, 2012, 04:55:27 PM
So, I know they are moving parking around, but I didn't think they were going to have 2 entrances .

Any one try the new one yet?

If the new enterance is going to be where I heard rumor it would be - it's no where near ready or safe enough to send patrions through.

We heard the new secondary entrance would not be open until 4th weekend and probably not until after 11am or after the main parking lot fills. It is supposedly somewhere near Crown Stage(?) and would mean patrons parking in the field NW of site (where participants parked last year) would not have to be bused up to the front gate. I think I'll take w quick search for it when I'm back on site Friday.

yeah, that was where I saw it, on the map.  but I couldn't find it on site.

I think it should be here:

Weird man.

I must say, I am kinda sad I missed the mini-donut truck on Saturday.  I like the renaissance waferboard on the rebuilt area.

That's what I'm figuring above, the Queen parking in the upper left was where we particpants parked last year. and the closer section was an area that had been more recently bull-dozed as of last year. I just hope the public doesn't have to take the same goat path to get there that we did, or that it's been improved since then.

That isn't B-gate that you have pointed out.  It's called Witchwood Gate which is near C-gate.

B-Gate is over by the front gate.

i was highly successful at pretending not to see it.

they're running late there, you can see the start of the intended facade on the right end of the building.
be glad they got the big trench they'd cut across the lane covered over again before opening.

ah, yeah, not sure why I put B gate there . . . I'll have to fix that.

what they ought to do is charge $25 and zip wire them over the Crown Stage . . .

I'll never understand why they start these rebuilding projects just a month before opening. This year I could be tempted to give them the benefit of the doubt with regard to a delay regarding fire insurance pay-out, but this has been an on-going pattern for all the new food booths in recent years so I doubt that's the case..

They start projects in mid-July so the first payment is due mid-August. That's when they start getting cash in the door.

Yeah, I suppose they don't want to pay interest on a short-term building loan by starting earlier. And the construction company (not festival) probably gets stuck paying overtime to their workers while trying to beat the deadline.

We are literally right next to the Crown stage and were told the patrons would be brought through the same walkway the Tortugas and Johhny use.  Which means they will have re configure thrir back stage a bit to ensure their gear, product and cash are secure from sticky fingers and drunk idiots.  Of course the area behind us and the stage are far from ready to even think about repurposing it as an new enterance .  I could see it happening perhaps next year.

Yeah I snooped around out there last Friday and can't see them getting anything done in time back there, they still haven't painted the new food booths in time for 3rd weekend.

i don't know that it'll matter much.  it seems like the pit has filled every weekend, and the queen's lot ends up half-full with vendor/performer vehicles anyway.
