Title: This Saturday
Post by: Wickedvox on August 23, 2012, 08:29:32 PM
Is anyone going this weekend who wants to roam about with me for a spell, take in a show, or meet for a pint? The hubby is bogged down with merchant business all day, so I'll be by me lonesome. Plus, one can always use the help with lacing upon arrival  ;D I'll be in the yellow bodice with red trim--you can just wave me down if you want!

I will be on the lookout for you!!  I am unsure of when I will be there on Saturday (ah, real life!) but I think with the near 90 type temps, I may be in some Indian type gear.  Redish lenga choli type get up.

I'll have *home baked* goodies for anyone who approaches me ;) Two if you give me your favor  :D lol!

~laughs~  You know, that is one thing I have never been able to decide upon is what kind of favor I should use.  Been doing the ren faire gig for nigh on 15 years or so and I still got 'nuthin

Hmmm...I'd have to know you much better to have any opinion on *that* lol! As far as I'm concerned we should all have some sort of sewing impliment as favors :D

See - my real name is Susan.  This mean 'lily' in Hebrew.  I thought of a lily charm on a simple ribbon.  Think I can find a simple and in expensive charm.  Nope.

I have gone by The Sweete Ladye for more than a number of years as well.  Think I can find some simple and "sweet" charmor doo dad that makes me happy?  Nope.

OY!

:D

Ohhhh! I *really* like Lily--particularly because my dad breeds lillies and has the most *amazing* lily garden...when his horrible Wheaton isn't digging up the bulbs and EATING them! Did you try Fire Mountain Gems? You can buy things in bulk--maybe you can find something there. But still, I'd have to know you better to have any say in it :)
I'm having a hard time with my faire-name. Mary Jane kept calling me "the middle-class seamstress" and I'm not really the "m'lady" type, I like Madame (being a merchant's wife), but I'll really only respond to Erin or Wicked lol. And I don't consider myself as favor-dispensing worthy (been going on and off for about 15yrs, with the usual costume evolutions), but when does one know when it's appropro to do that sort of thing? Don't you have to work for the faire to give those out? Aaaggh! I could as questions all night! I'll see you tomorrow lol! Going to bed!

See in my sig line?  I go by Mistress.  A nice thing to refer to a Middle class lady as.

And yes, I did try Fire Mountain - more than a few years ago.  I may may have to go and look again

I wondered if Mistress was proper for middles--thanks! Mistress Wicked sounds wrong though lol.

I looked for you today but the crowd was *really* big today and the heat got to me, so I left around 3:30. I met Calliope though! She's very nice, as was her friend Francesca. I dropped your name to Mary Jane lol. I'm a Name dropper.

Yeah - I guess I missed you by 5 minutes.  I ran into CC right after you.  Drat!

I left early too.  I don't do well in 90 degree heat, no matter what I am wearing!

I can second that...you lucky ducks...I was dusty all the way up to my hair horns, and sweaty in places I'm too ladylike to mention.  ::)

But I was lucky enough to get a bit of of Mistress Wicked's Biscotti - YUMMO! Grazie, mi Amica! Molto Dolce!

I admit I had to wonder about the employees! Sweaty work! I'm not too ladylike--Me bloomers were stuck to me nether regions! It's fair-wear for me this weekend! Look for me in sage green or blue and yellow, haven't decided!

Margaret--I'm bummed, I really wanted to meet you :(

Calliope--You're very welcome m'lady! Maybe "Mistress Wicked" doesn't sound so wrong after all lmao! ;) Did I just get a faire name??

Kat--If you describe your character to me I'll come harass *you* too!  ;D

Aaaaaaaaargh! I won't be there *any* other weekend!! (I'm opting for the sewing expo instead of closing weekend. If anyone's interested in going with me just hollah! They're going to have a *ton* of free lectures on costuming and techniques, and they've got a costume display--score!)

Kat--vul·gar·i·an (v l-gâr - n). n. A vulgar person, especially one who makes a conspicuous display of wealth. See Synonyms at boor. Is this what I'm looking for? lol!  :D

kinda,

we are one of the ensembles of the resident cast.  we wear mostly black, with burgundy and silver.  we also speak with eastern european accents (think russian)

and yeah, we're pretty rude too.

Haha, that works, I hadn't thought of that one!  It's all a fantasy-garb, a person who's lived with a tribe of goblins and "gone native" to serve as their shaman. Kind of fun character to play, even though I step out of character alot when people ask questions about everything.

I do enjoying seeing garb that obviously has taken some creativity, time, effort (and some coin) to put together. Well done! It looks like you won't be easy to miss. I'll be sure to say hello on Saturday!

I'll definitely say hi! That's a different back story--I'd be interested to hear how you came up with it...former dice thrower or card flopper ;) I've often considered something fantastical, but I guess I'm too "straight and narrow" to come up with anything more creative than "h/a merchant and wife" lol! Though sometimes I slip into my faire-wear and have been known to shake me bloomers lol! Have fun!

You got it on the first one, I used to run a couple of fantasy RPG's. I was always insane enough that I would create the entire world the game was taking place in, drew all the maps, laid out the cultures and histories, I even made up a few alphabets to toss my players some "code-breaking" that wouldn't be too difficult of a challenge. As you can probably guess, I can get pretty OCD-like over my projects!

Pictures from the weekend are posted here, if anybody's interested:

I didn't see you, or I would've said hi :(

I'm a dice thrower from waaaaaay back. I loved DM's who put a lot of thought into their games.

I commented on some of your photos. Mary Jayne and Lillith are *so* very sweet. I'm the Village Seamstress *favorite!* She said so!

It looks like you had fun! Are your friends Mark and Eric twins? Who won the costume contest?

Here's some pics of us from this weekend:
Me and my husband:

Me and my friend Katy:

And opening weekend--aka My Weekend of Ego and Glory:

Now you know what *I* look like in garb, grab me (nicely) if you see me ;)

I didn't catch you there either, alas. I love your garb. I can see why she called you her favorite!
The guys you asked about are indeed identical twins. It gets weird around them sometimes because their voices and their laughs even sound alike.
As for the costume contest, I won it on Saturday, and their was a lady pirate captain on Sunday who won. She was fantastic.
Will you be there again? I am hoping to make one more trip to the festival, probably on a Saturday so that I can spend the following Sunday in recovery/withdrawal.

Thanks, I love my clothes--they're comfy and look nice, that's what matters to me.
I'm glad you won!
I'm not sure...I *want* to, but I've got some other things in the works too: studying for a test next wednesday, so beats out this weekend; next weekend open, and no test that wednesday--don't know if I could talk the hubby into letting me go *just one more time*; Victorian Days Festival is the following weekend in Northville; and the Sewing expo is going on during MiRF's closing weekend. Expo has all kinds of free lectures on costuming, have a costume display, and have lectures on sewing knits, which I really need so I can finish my Wonder Woman costume. I don't know, I *want to* but there are so many other things I want to spend money on :( Baaaaaaaahhhhh! I've got too much going on!!

I can definitely relate! I always seem to have more projects in mind than I could possibly have time to actually do. I'm hoping to hit the festival one of the last 3 weekends, but alot of it will depend on when a couple of my friends can go. I also have some additional materials ordered for yet more costume props for my crazy garb, because you never really finish tinkering with it, do you?

I'm pondering going late Saturday--they're having a memorial service at 7pm for Owain Phyfe. So sad, it's a huge loss for our faire.
