Just 134 days until opening day -- Feb. 23, 2013.
I'm hoping it'll be a cold day again. My wife tried on her new noble gown so I could mark the hem, and before I was done we had the air conditioner AND the fan going in the room. She's hot in that dress. ;D
125 days until opening day ...
105 days now until opening day ...
Iain, I'm hoping we will get to see you again and see your masterpiece in person...we are moving to Ft Lauderdale soon!
...may the gods help you, Iain.... ::)

I'd tell you to behave, but that is a lost cause? ;)

Really? Wow, that's great to hear! (Been traveling and missed your post until now.) After Scarby and TRF, you may find BARF a bit disappointing (tent fair -- no permanent structures due to hurricane codes), but the people are great. The other people, I mean. They're nice.
I'm sure we'll have an opening day tailgate. If you're here then, you have to get there and shiver with the rest of us Floridians. (We do that whenever the temperature drops below 70, and a couple of years back it was actually below freezing at the opening day tailgate.)
I will be there, fife in one hand and my 2 beautiful lasses in my other!
Love to meet a fellow R/Fer and throw a big faire-hug on ya! It's been a few years, but I'm getting back in the faire-of-things. It never leaves your system once you fall in love with the faire, I've missed it so!
I've managed to make Lady of the Lakes and Sarasota MF so far, and have already made my schedule for HoggeTowne, both Deerfield and Miami FLARF's and of course a healthy dose of my hometown faire BARF!
I also plan on 3 out of state faires this coming year. Not sure which but likely GA, TN, and NC or SC.
I was a full member here about 4 years ago, then life got stupid and I put things in the wrong order of importance, lol... No more though, I love the faire and the faire lifestyle TOO much to ever lose it again!
Anyway, sorry to talk your ear off. Hope to see you at BARF, first mead or porter, or beer on me!
adam
Adam, so good to make your acquaintance here. We're sure to do it in person soon.
My wife and I usually go to Lady of the Lakes, but were in Pennsylvania that weekend this year. And we'll be in Thailand when Hoggetown rolls around. But in addition to BARF, we're planning to get to FLARF and GARF this year. (Which makes it sound as if I have a disease: "Yes, I BARFed, FLARFed and GARFed this year.")
We just were at the closing Sunday at Carolina RF last week, and are talking about getting to Tennessee this year as well.
So it'll be a miracle if we don't see eachother a lot!
Oh, and ... 91 days until opening day ...
Thailand... well you do travel don't you, lol!
My schedule looks like...
Hoggetowne - Jan. 26th and 27th
BARF - Feb. 23rd - and all other days (except for the 2 weekends below)
FLARF (Deerfield Beach) - March 16th and 17th
FLARF (Miami) - March 30th and 31st
Still working on GA and TN but I'll bet ya I'll make at least 1 weekend at each!
Not to divert the thread but what are your thoughts on Hoggetowne? This will be my first apperance there and I was wondering what to expect. From what I've been able to find, it seems to be somewhere between Lady of the Lakes and BARF (maybe Sarasota MF-ish) but there isn't much info out there. Any must-do's or don't-s at this faire?
See you soon!
adam
90.5 days!
Well it's 84 days now.
78 days ...
68 days now.
The orange trees seem to be doing well, so I should have fresh Florida orange juice for the tailgage.
39 days until opening canon now ...
(And I leave tonight for Thailand ... yippee! I'll be back in time for opening day.)
Safe travels, Master Robb! We look forward to seeing you both at liver stretching exercises tailgate bright and early. Nothing makes mimosas better than your OJ.
26 days.....and a duffel bag drag...
Well, just two more days until I drag our duffel bag back to the airport. Found some great buttons today. (Yes, I am an idiot. I fly to Thailand and shop for buttons that will look good on renaissance costumes.)
Are we there yet? I got a power inverter for tailgate. Waffles anyone?
How about a blender for smoothies?
Or margaritas!

This ^ is why we're friends.
I thought we were friends because of my charming personality... :o
Well, yeah, there's that too ... :D
Got back from Thailand Saturday, a day later than expected. My body clock is still in some other time zone, however. Should be back to normal by opening day.

Well, your charming personality is just one of many endearing qualities you possess. However, I also love the way your mind works and, thus, my admiration of your marguaritas post. ;D ;D ;D
Just 17 days!
I may have to start squeezing the trunks of the orange trees if they don't get more cooperative real soon.
11!
Are we there yet? 9 days!
I am SO wishing that this weekend's forecast (highs in the 60s, lows near 40) was the forecast for opening weekend. Looks like we'll be back into the 80s for opening weekend, and that's too hot for my wife to wear the blue velvet noble gown I made her. (Though I certainly would not want a return of the weekend when it was literally freezing at cannon and didn't seem to get out of the 30s all day. I remember buying a cup of coffee and standing in the sun to drink it, and I was still shivering.)
Mind you, just observing, not complaining. Not in the least. I didn't have to dig my car out of a snowbank even once this winter, or any winter in recent memory, and our cold comes in "snaps," not in big Arctic waves that bear down on you for a week or more at a time. Nope, we have it good here in Florida.
Just saying, a bit cooler would be nice ... you know?
accuweather.com has opening weekend... Saturday morning in the 40's with the high around 64, Sunday starts at 50 gets up to 67.
Oh good. That sounds velvetable.
Now they have Saturday as 59/85 with showers in the morning and Sunday 61/79 with a 55% chance of rain...
Yikes! Now, with
4
days to go, Saturday's forecast is:
High of 82, low of 68.
Definitely not velvet weather.
And try as we might, there won't be fresh orange juice either. The harvest is dismal. Almost nil.
UUGH!! Opening day has been on the house calender for 2 months. I asked off at work 2 months ago. YESTERDAY my daughter and I realize that we have a scheduling conflict. She has a birthday party/sleepover friday night. So I am trying to get ahold of my boss to see if I can take sunday off instead.
I shall be bringing Mimosa stuff this weekend probably 2 bottles of each both days and possibly a veggie tray for a healthy snack as there will be much unhealthy stuff and drinking to be done just to try and help out.
My wife and I both remember that I had a really good idea about what to bring instead of orange juice.
And neither of us can remember what the idea was.
I'll bring something ...
We had Poinsettias for opening day of Sherwood. I had never had one before and they were quite tasty! http://cocktails.about.com/od/cocktailrecipes/r/poinsettia_cktl.htm (http://cocktails.about.com/od/cocktailrecipes/r/poinsettia_cktl.htm)
Conflict resolved. Be there Saturday!! ;D

Huzzah! It will be good to see you and your crew again!
Oh, and I've decided what I'm bringing, if I can only figure out how to make it without getting up at 3 a.m.
It's a raisin schiacciatta recipe that dates back at least to the Renaissance.
Weekend Weather:
Saturday : High 79, Low 66, 10% chance of rain
Sunday: High 77, Low 66, 30% chance of rain
Can't wait to see you all tomorrow morning! :-* :-* :-*
BTW, NEXT weekend's weather has highs in the upper 60s. THAT would be perfect!
Hold on, change of plans ...
Yes, we will have fresh-squeezed Florida oeange juice!
Well, I had a wonderful time on opening day. It was so nice to see folks again, after so long. Anyone else?
It was nice to see you and Julie too, Ian.
