Yeah, Merlin, when we get to this age, it's kind of hard to get excited about the passage of time in increments of minutes, much less seconds.
By opening day, counting down those last few seconds before cannon add to the hoopla for us in line by the gate.
Looking forward to this season at Sherwood.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we'll be in the line with you and the rest opening day.
I'll be saying a few incantations for cool winds with slight chance of powdery snow on opening day, just for you, Merlin.
If I could have an average of opening weekend Year 2, 85°, and opening weekend Year 3, 35°, it would be perfect for my liking. Because of the journey distance, chance of snow translates to no chance of travel.
Okay, let's cancel the snow.
But we'll keep the cool gentle winds, 'k?
I really want to come out and play this year!!!! *crosses fingers*

I can't decide on what garb piece to buy! I know I want a Viking apron dress/tube dress/ whatever more intelligent minds than mine own call it now, but I saw that Garb the World has a really nice Roman Tunic for 35 bucks that just seems to catch my eye for some reason. And I want another Templar tunic and set of undergarments so I can kinda switch it out. BUT THEN I found a really beautiful cold weather coat that I want to save up for... Too many choices....
You're right, Scarlet! There are way too many choices when it comes to new garb! I wanted to buy a little something for myself as well, but it's too hard to pick just one! lol...
Are we there yet?

Look at the pretty I found! I would love it more if I could find someone to make this for me that lives around here, and I know PR has a few seamstresses amount our ranks so I may ask around, but this looks like it would be ridiculously warm towards the end of TRF/start of Sherwood. It's purely in the " Dreaming" phase, but it's so pretty..

I think the hat is the warmest part of this outfit. :P It wasn't too bad at TRF this past November. With open sleeves, I didn't get too warm during the afternoon hours, and with a few added layers, I was kept toasty once the sun went down.
Looking forward to our first year at Sherwood! Washed all garb from TRF and just packed them right back into our garb tote ready to go!

Thanks, oh fierce Captain M and wonderous Merlin.
Home safe and tired. Gathering was fun and, um, interesting.
Twice had what even Captain Michael would call young fellows sit beside me, smoking an interesting non-tobacco. Several people in vicinity did not recognize the enticing smell as there were comments. The first fellow glanced sideways at me as if he expected a stern look, holding his cigarette to the other side; the second actually asked "do you mind; I can move if you want?" Very polite smokers they were.
I guess I just had the "safe to be around" aura shining last night.
Getting ready to write a note to Customer Service for the new 130 toll way from Seguin to Austin area. Speed limit 85 – I seriously believe them when they say it was built for that speed, though I usually go 5 to 10 under speed limit, which put me cruising at 75 mph. Curves are banked so there is almost no feel of centrifugal force at all. Not sure what they can do about the bicyclists, though; there were three of them in a group today, in the Lockhart area. Limited access, toll road, cars going 85 mph and people actually think it's okay to be on bikes out there???
Evolutionary natural selection at work.
Let's all go to Faire.
Seriously?!? Cyclists?!? I guess Arkansas isn't as backward as a lot of people think. We don't allow bicycles or mopeds on our controlled-access roads.

So, now it's 47 days, 22 hours, and less than 1 minute to cannon at Sherwood.

Actually, Merlin, my son is quite a decent cook.
However, as holiday gift to me, yesterday they were busy building an 8x12', 30" high deck outside my back door to replace ricketedy steps that were quite dangerous. Got the deck itself finished with siding. Will be back later this week or next weekend to add the stair steps, railing, and a frame at about 8' above deck so I can add lattice at some later date.
Besides, it gave me an opportunity to cook a big meatloaf, not something I normally cook for myself.

This weather the past few days has, for reasons I have not a clue on, made me want to camp out at Sherwood even more. I bet the forest is breathtaking in the lit morning hours with fog everywhere...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! SO EXCITED!
It's really impossible to wake up on the wrong side of the bed when camping at Sherwood, especially on beautiful, temperate mornings: the sun is shining, there's a cool breeze, the birds are chirping, and you can hear people gathering for breakfast and chatting cheerfully. *sigh*

Wrong side? Yes, it's possible when you've moved your bed and try to find the door on the wrong side of the tent when the lantern is on the other side of the bed. Or forget there is another person visiting who is completely covered with sleeping bag, right where you usually step.
But, you are right about mornings at Sherwood, even the cold, foggy ones like some days last year. It's strange, surreal even, sitting in the predawn, listening to birds and critters, and other early rising campers.

I'm 100 SE of Sherwood - maybe this is the end of our "cold" weather for the year. Yeah, that's it.
The sleet didn't bother me much last year...a little nippy, but at least I didn't sweat.
I can bundle up pretty good against the cold and wet, so I wasn't suffering too much either. Just gotta keep my hands and toes tucked in. :D
I think this year, we can be better prepared if it does get that cold again. Sure, the Cubette will be bundled up to where she will get lost in the stroller, but hey, at least she will be warm! lol...

It's on my list of possibles for the near future. But I am thinking more along the lines of a tent that I can set up for the season. A cheapo really because you never know if a limb will fall. And I am not willing to leave a camper in the woods for that reason.
*I get nervous enough leaving rum out there...*
It is totally irresponsible of me to spend the money to make a trip to Sherwood this year. So mote it be. Me late Mum always thought I was a bit tetched.
I gotta get a new tent too. Finally thinking about going period style. Any favorite companies? And, I agree, I gotta be more ready for cold weather options. I FROZE last year. :)

And then, next weekend, I have serious work to take care of.

Let's see, TRF takes all of August through November; Sherwood needs cleaning up from December until opening early February, then keeping the campers in line til end of March. Wow, get Scarborough on board and then all you'll need is a small summer faire to carry through til you have to start at TRF again.
You'll meet yourself coming and going.
Ditto on what Ginette said. Your efforts are greatly appreciated and have gone a long way to make camping a better experience for many of us.
Yeah, Mike does work his arse off. A couple years ago at Sherwood, he was preparing Seven Sisters for a wedding, and was raking the sand for the feng shui. As he was doing it, people were walking right through it! One guy even brought his little daughter into the circle and held her hand as she kicked the patterns into oblivion!
I give lots of points to Mike...
I'll add my back slap to Mike as well. Without Mike spearheading both SWFF and TRF, camping would definitely not be as enjoyable as it is.
Thank you Mike :-)

the big question- to bring the wee ones or not for opening? Fi can handle the cold, but Abi has a pathological hatred of blankets and kicks them off within minutes of them being put on her, preferring to get her warmth by climbing into our bed and stealing ours...

I say leave the wee ones at home so you can kick back and take a shot of Nyquil. ;D *ducks*
Ok...ok...I'll be bringing some of Strange's meade with me and yes...I'll share a bit with you...if you want some.
Got busy reading and almost forgot,
16 days, 0 hours, 2 minutes, and a few seconds to go.
After our work weekend and getting our tent set up out there, I am ready for faire! I was worried about getting boots for my Templar outfit, but I am now fine with wearing my cranberry colored Chucks and being the " Grunge Templar". I stand off to the side of battle, write music lyrics and draw sketches in my hardback, 99 cents journal, and lament about how the first two Crusades were -so- much better.
Oops, time got away from me again.

Join us for an ale in the parking lot two weeks from this very moment, Polly?
What time are y'all planning on meeting up in the parking lot? I'm day tripping on opening day and would like to visit with some of y'all prior to opening cannon. I'll be thinking about what I can bring along to make some "breakfast cocktails".
I'll do my best to find you and Nimue, Merlin.
Looking forward to it. :)
Hard to miss Homer, the Odyssey. We are bringing two guests who have not seen Sherwood yet.
Hope to be there 9-ish, if I can round up the ladies and get them there... You can't miss me... I'm the good-looking old man with a long beard... ;D

So, wunderground.com says the weather on Wed, Feb 6 might be hi 85 and low 55. Weather.com says it might be hi 74 and low 55. Which is typically more accurate? I don't know about you, but I'm more in favor of 74...
Never check the weather this far out. There is no way they can accurately forecast that far in advance in Texas.
I know that, I just find it funny that their predictions would be so different.

KP is right.
AccuWeather puts it at 68-44 on Saturday. So that's a possible high of between 68/85 and a possible low of 44/55. Then again, there are wizards' spells at work, too.
Is the Old Farmers Almanac still printing? ;)
That is correct Polly. Even though I won`t be there ,I am working my good weather spells. I bet Merlin the Elder has been doing the same. I am up and walking around. I am going to try for the end of faire to join everyone at the faire. I hope you will be there then...............Huzzah
Going to miss seeing you, A³. Catch you at Scarby, then?
I'm going for an average of the last two opening weekends—85° two years ago and 35° last year. That should put us at 60°, which is perfect for my taste, tho' a little cool for others.
I had a great time at Sherwood last year. I was really hoping to make opening weekend. I am going to miss seeing You,Nimue,Polly, and all of the rest of my Rennie friends. Yes Merlin the Elder we shall see each other at Scarborough. We shall have a beer before opening cannon. Boom. I am still going to try and make it to Sherwood, maybe closing weekend................Huzzah
I take blame/credit for the warm winter. I built a sort of greenhouse thing to protect my plants when the weather was getting cold. Since that time it hasn't gotten cold again. Apparently being prepared stops bad weather from happening.
I can't decide if that is a blessing or a curse but as camping time for Sherwood gets closer I am leaning more and more towards blessing.
*I don't like my rum frozen*
We were just talking about how nice the weather had been this week when we started hearing low rumbling thunder followed by a lot of loud crashing outside. Headed out to the porch and confirmed that it was indeed hailing. Hope the campgrounds are alright.

Tonight is time to make sure the shower system is working and make sure all blankets/towels are cleaned and in the bin. Then it is just waiting impatiently until the next 9 days have gone past.

Hotel reservations have been made, chainmaille has been found! All we have to do now is pack some snacks, pack our mundane bag, sort through the garb box (which really shouldn't take long at all) and clean out the trunk of the car (which also shouldn't take too long). Next week, we are Sherwood bound!
We should be in our hotel camping spot by this time next week... I wonder if they allow fires in the room?

Friday doesn't count because I will be in the campgrounds that night.
Therefore. Only three days to go!

Oh, you gotta love that rennie math! Can't wait to see you and Trinn, Teach! Too bad we can't camp this year :(

Rennie clock says REALLY, REALLY SOON!!
Departing Castle Keep at 0630 on the Day of Frigg. Estimated time of arrival at the Comforteth Suites Castle in Bastropshire, 1530.
So, so, sorry, Merlin.
From weather reports we're getting, it looks to be mid-70s this weekend.
:(
Mid-70s is doable. Mid-60s would have been more comfy for me, but not for most others. I'm good.
I lied... I don't think there will be a Pual. There will be something even more interesting :D

have to get through one last workday. Kids must survive (apparently). Then I can be at camp tonight

So glad you clarified that, Eddie. Only one person is allowed to be obnoxiously arrogant, and because I am old...ancient...they elected me.... ;D
Great weekend with some non-faire warts. Never saw Teach or Jessica, but did see Polly, Beckgams, Castle Canine, and met some we had not previously...David Baldock and Renstarr, for example. Due to some physical issues, we weren't getting around as much as normal.
Congrats to George & Rengypsy! It looked like a record opening weekend crowd! Great new pub!
VaNa MaZi was fantastic! Really enjoyed them!
Merlin, did you see the "new" Wine and Alchemy?

Great opening Day!
> Had a good time in the parking lot prior to opening cannon. Met some new friends, had some good conversations. Good to meet Merlin the Elder and Nimue, as well as their traveling companions. Also talked with Polly for a first time.
> Got to hang out with some of my PR clan members that I haven't seen in awhile. Always good to see Teach and Lady Trinn. Good talking with Maven and Nick and seeing Zaubon (glad to hear your on the mend my friend).
> Good talking with Lishy and Dennis and seeing the BS crew from LA. Capt Sin twisted his back and wasn't feeling so good, that was a shame. Hope that heals up soon.
> Lots of other Sherwood regulars that was good to see, even if I didn't get a chance to chat.
Looking forward to getting back down there in the next few weeks!!
RenStarr, we enjoyed meeting you as well... thanks for the jokes AND the Poinsettias, by the way!
A great time to be sure.
Not much better than hanging out with the fairmily
I saw you at one point Merlin but I was rushing to get to the photo op and never saw you again afterwards.
Renstarr it is always great to hang out with you. Hope we have more time another weekend.
Maeven, the spawnling is a precious bundle. Wish I could have spent more time visiting. Hopefully you will be able to camp again some day...
Betty, getting to hang out with you and Alex is always a blast. So very glad to have you both as full members now (Also, Star Trek is the best).
And to everyone else, I truly wish there was time to visit with everyone. We were showing some renvirgins around and that took up most of my day.
However I will be back Saturday! Let's do it all again!

as today. My goodness!
woot only 3 1/2 days till I leave for SWFF
we're going to try and make it out two weekends, but no promises. We are coming out sans spawnlings, so we may only get one weekend. Abi is a year old now and has discovered she can get into things and has evolved from walking to running, and Fí has become a prima dona in her terrible threes. We need a break FROM them, not with them, so folks will get to see them at TRF instead, when they are too cold to make trouble ;D
