Dona - Highland Fling Weekend has always been such a success and has always been a weekend full of a number of events. We figure - since it is so popular, we would allow Highland Games weekend to be more centralized on Highland Games and add another weekend 'Celtic Weekend'. Our hope is that some of the smaller events that take place aside from Highland Games are able to gain more of a spotlight. We are excited - and hope you are too!

April 13 is Pirate Invasion for anyone who is interested.

This seems like a good spot for this question... So, I have a very over the top pirate-fop costume going, and i want to wear it next weekend for pirate invasion... however, it involves a big powdered wig and white face... i know its  200+ years too late for scarby... but its hilarious. I suppose my question is: Will somthing like this offend the Scarby Gods? I will post a picture of the wig in this message.. Only the wig will be used- the costume and makeup will not be. All thoughts and comments are welcome! (both positive and negative- i want real opinions on this!)

I've heard an unsubstantiated rumour that there will be a large Steampunk invasion next weekend during Pirate weekend.

Do with that what you will.

I haven't met those yet.
I'd love to see that wig.  ;D

I would also love to see that wig.

Bonus: it would make you easy to find so that I can introduce myself!

The point is to have fun and enjoy the day. If someone has a problem with you doing that then they are the ones who should fear the Scarby Gods..

Not to mention that no matter how outrageously you are dressed at faire, chances are there will be someone (or many ones) looking equally if not more outrageous.

:)

(some of the people in various parts of Big Furry Costumes come to mind.  And people dressed as demons.)

That's so true... Imagine my surprise to see Predator at Scarby this past weekend.
Title: Re: Themed weekends
Post by: skitter on April 09, 2013, 01:24:16 PM
Right?!

Also, these "Scarby Gods" manifest themselves in the form of other patrons/playtrons.  I've never gotten side-eyed by anyone who was directly involved in the faire, but I have seen/overheard/experienced snarky comments from people who weren't working there.

As a playtron or patron,  you are not bound by convention as to what you wear through the gates, as long as it is not illegal or overly offensive.  Offensive is subjective of course, as to what the OWNERS feel is offensive.  I might be offended by a person wearing a purple dinosaur suit... they might not be.  Are the parts covered?  Check.  It is somewhat in good taste?  Check.  Is it dangerous?  Check.

Whether it's accurate to period, not much can be done about that.  It's period to the 1700s, not the 1500s, but hey, it's your costume and you have to wear it.  Go for it!

Thank the gods!  I was not enjoying Sunday by 4ish (maybe I was doing too much walking), it got better as the sun headed more towards the horizon though!

sad part is, I believe it was only high 70's...  not quite sure how I'm going to be able to last on Memorial day weekend!

Saturday Sunny, with a high near 67.
Saturday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 47.
Sunday Mostly sunny, with a high near 72.

That's the NWS weather forecast for the 20th and 21st. We are heading down for Saturday, just gotta get thru the week.

I know . . . oh, how I know.  I was trying hard not to complain about the heat yesterday because I know it will be getting worse.

I'm definitely NOT complaining about highs in the 70s...but on that stage, when you're sitting in the sun for 30 minutes straight (which we did for 3 shows last Saturday), the heat index is about 10-15 degrees warmer than air temperature.  To me, it easily felt like 90 at the end of the 4 o'clock show (4:30ish).  Hopefully we'll have an umbrella to shield us for the rest of the season...period-correct of course  ::)

Highland weekend was a lot of fun. It was hilarious to watch the Row 12 people get celebrity-itis when the Travel Channel sprung Adam Richman on us. We had quite a turnout and a humungous spread.
Apparently he has a new show that might be called Fandemonium. I tried to stay out of the limelight. Though it seems Adam and his film crew polished off my mini-pigs.

On another note, Oswyn was wearing some drop dead gorgeous garb this weekend. He really needs to post pics in the sewing projects thread.

Just a thought for you all....hotels from Waco to Waxahachie are full of displaced residents. If you don't already have a hptel booked; don't be surprised if you have to go further into Dallas for a room.

I'll be performing with the Drums of Isis for the "Wings of Isis & Star Dancers" belly dance show again this Saturday (4/27), as well as the following Sunday 5/5.  With five shows a day at 11:30, 1:30, 3, 4 & 5:30, surely you all can find the time to come and watch one of our fun shows  ;)

Also, this weekend, my brother is bringing his girlfriend down for both days, so I'll know at least one of the victims Sultans for one of the shows Saturday  ;D

And lastly, I'm NOT scheduled to perform May 11/12, so I finally get a weekend off  8)

No, I have quite a bit of Jalapeño wine left...  but didn't bring it out last weekend as not many people wanted to try it...  unfortunately we were thinking about not coming out this weekend as there's too much month at the end of the money this month.  Gauwyn, will there be another weekend you will be available?

Well, we've not decided yet...  But we were leaning toward no...  The issue is the gas round trip...  we have some friends that said they'd give us a ride so we could save on gas, but they're east of Denton, so FTW is pretty out of their way...  and then there's the whole issue of the car seat for the kid...  But if this is Gauwyn's only weekend this year, we can re-approach the subject and see...
