Title: spring equinox ceremony
Post by: rengypsy on March 18, 2013, 09:27:08 AM
just a reminder that this upcoming saturday, friends of faire will be welcomed to re-enter the faire grounds beginning at 9:15-9:30pm to make their way down to the sacred stone circle, the Seven Sisters, for a spring equinox ceremony. The actual ceremony will begin at 10pm.  before that time, our community's drummers will get us in the spirit...and at the conclusion of the ceremony, drummers and fire spinners will grace us at the Seven Sisters with music and fire until around midnight.

this is a sherwood ritual...and is quite meaningful to many.  be respectful if you decide to join in.

cheers,
rengypsy

Yes! I've been waiting for this for awhile! Will anyone say any words for the year ahead at this gathering?

I read somewhere that if you had a FOF pass that you could bring one guest with you to this event.  Does this still apply?

Only if they also have a FoF pass. One of the benefits of being a Friend of Faire. Correction- FoF can bring one guest.

If you are Pagan/Druid, please come early to help me setup the Seven Sisters.

I have to cleanup the area (pickup trash and cigarette butts) before I perform the dropping of wards ceremony. Since this event is after dark, finding trash will be difficult.

On closing cannon, I have to clear out the Patrons in the lower area, so I'm busy until about 8:15 PM. Thus, I'll need help cleansing the Seven Sisters before the ceremony.

If the wind is too high, we cannot ignite the bonfire. Please cast wind abatement spells.

Once I loose the wards, the Pagan priests/priestesses have control of the stone circle until the end of the evening

I will be bringing in enough firewood to take care of the evening. If you have a log or two to spare, bring them.

Kind of futile to purchase a Friend of Faire pass with only two weeks left in the season.

Purchase one next year and enjoy all the benefits.

This was my first time experiencing any sort of Wiccan cermony in person, and I must say I got goosebumps! The fire seemed alive, and I agree with everyone there that the Sisters seem to "hum" or give off their own energy. Whatever faith you have, you cannot deny that the love poured into the land from the people and events that happen on its soil has had a positive impact.

Thank you all so much for offering this for us.

i am not a pagan or a wiccan, but respect the religions of old...as i do religions which dominate our current times.  but i do agree that the seven sisters stand as a special and "sacred place" within sherwood's grounds.  i don't know if many know, but there is a pond on sherwood (not part of the faire grounds proper) that shows up on the earliest maps of Texas...and is fed by artesian springs on the ajoining property.  likewise, below the pond is the source of a creek, also on all original texas maps, that has water running 365 days a year--even during our most recent drought.  magical, indeed.  i think the property itself is sacred...and what we can do to enhance and preserve this place is a powerful testamony to our community.
