I didn't see a thread like this in the recent history, so I figure I would throw this out there...
I'm new to the board, but it seems a lot of TX folks are around, so maybe we should have an unofficial meeting spot one day, so that we may see eachother in person!
I'm not partial to when or where, particularly... The Sea Hag Pub, near where the court dance is held is nice, and large space. (I dunno how many will show)
Anyway, just a thought! Ideas and interest level appreciated!
-Os
Sounds like fun! I'll be there most Saturdays. Opening weekend? Or did you want to make it a weekly thing?
My husb will be taking part in the court dance, so nearby there (maybe either beforehand or afterwards) would be great for me, and I am very pro-Pub.
You know i will be there everyweekend. Cant wait to see you oswyn.
I too will be there every weekend, and also attend Court Dance every time. :D so I'm otay with before /after that. I wouldn't be opposed to meeting every week- I suppose it will be up to the masses. I fly solo at faire, so I'm not opposed to a new group, or just occasional meetings.
Im excited to see you too, L.K! and skitter, I'm bound to see you , if nowhere else but court dance.
I'm stupidly excited about faire starting. I wants it to start NOW tho. :)
Maybe A bit on the earlier side, opening day for the first meet and greet? say, 2pm at Sea Hag pub? IOt's shady there, and drink-y... :D
It depends on what i am scheduled to work. I will let you know when I know.
I'm interested! I'm new here too and would love to meet you guys! :)
We'll be there the weekend of April 27th for my bday - We plan on going Sat and Sun.

That sounds lovely! Once we get closer and I know what I'll be wearing, I'll let you know. It all depends on how motivated I am to sew for myself now that the other costuming is done.
Shady and drinky is a good combination!
There's always tailgate...opening day, it will be EARLY.
I'm there every Saturday. I am really bad about keeping track of time once we are inside the fair though. I'd love to meet you.
We've all got together for a photo at times in the past. That's usually a great time to visit...
How about we try meeting at the bakery for breakfast right after cannon?
Anyone have a better idea?
I could use a coffee after all the ale for pre-breakfast... pre-cannon.
Looks like we shall have Drinks then Breakfast on Opening Day as it should be!...............Huzzah
Meet in the morning at bakery -- check!
Meet at pub at 2pm -- check!
:)
There is a high chance that I will make that! Mainly because that is one of my required morning stops.
*it's one of the few non-rum things that are required at faire*
Can't wait it all sounds good! Met some wonderful people last season the couple times we went! Got bit by the "bug" Grabbed FoF passes this year! Would love to meet more of you!

There is this matter of priorities.... ::)
Once upon a time, we had a Meet n' Greet at one of the pubs, if I remember right. Unfortunately, going to faire isn't an every weekend kind of thing for me anymore, so I can't take charge of that. I try to see as many people I can in the morning at tailgate, especially this coming Saturday, as its been way too long since I've seen everyone.
There are so many new faces around here, it's great. :)
I'd love to be able to meet up somewhere. In all of my years of going to Faires, I've sadly done little socializing. I'll be there with the family in tow opening weekend. I'll see if I can herd them in the direction of either the bakery or the pub at the agreed upon times. Hope to see you there!
Hurry and post a pic, FoxFire, so we know who to keep an eye out for.
Well hell, I didn't know about the tailgate thing, until after I posted this! Of all my years attending Scarby, I guess I'm like FOxFIre in that I haven't socialized much. I guess I'll still be at the Sea Hag around 2 if anyone wants to, but I'll definitely see you at the TG partayyyy! :D
Oswyn, I must have missed you yesterday at the preview . . .
I will try to be at the tailgate, and will plan on 2pm at the Sea Hag Pub . . . I'll be flitting around with Faire ADHD. :)
Also, I sometimes get shy about introducing myself . . . but I'm quite friendly. I'll be in blue skirt and green bodice, and will likely still have a very sunburned face. :)
I have my schedule ill be working almost everyweekend, looks like ill be off work by 4-5 most days. Cant wait to see everyone. I will prolly not make it to the meetings durring the day but if we plan something a bit later ill be there.
Where will you be working, Lady Kaalyn?
no, skitter, i was unable to attend yesterday. i had to move. :( to have missed yesterday rather than next weekend! hehe i will try to say hello- i can be shy too- but i think my costumne makes me more outgoing. :) blue skirt, green bodice, sunburn face- got it. that should be easy enuff. :D
i need to lay off the sewin or my hands will be tooo caloused to pass as a noble! hehe

Aw, that sucks that you had to miss it, but at least you'll be there for opening weekend!
I've been sewing like crazy, too . . . I still need to make myself a new hat. :)

Alas, I have no faire pictures available to post, but be I'll gladly provide a general description: blonde hair, probably will be topped with a feather garland and disgracefully short for faire, red dress and tapestry DitD tapestry bodice, I will have the family with me, so I will have a spritely lass in green, a tiny squire, and my partner who is brunette and will be in a wine colored ren shirt and black piratey pants. Two dead giveaways though, I wear a plethora of tails, and depending on what I decide, I may have a stroller disguised as a dragon for the tiny squire. I made the disguise last year for Muskogee, and haven't decided yet if we will be using it this year for scarby or renting a wagon to haul him about in. So in short, if you see a wench in said garb with disgraceful hair under siege by a two child army, possibly pushing a dragon, that's me! We will also try to stop by the pre-cannon tailgate as well.
Merlin I will be working in special events.
I am a shy one too. I have a very hard time talking to new people.
<snort>
I almost typed all of that without laughing.
Never fear introducing yourself Skitter. Most of us don't bite unless asked.

I'm a little bit of a shy one too! But Rum definitely helps!
I try to make the morning tailgate, but the sure place to find me as you wander away from the bakery with your coffee/breakfast, is just down the lane at Majikah Perfumery. My hair's almost always braided up, but it's dark auburn and in past years I've been the busty one in the shoppe, although we've a new girl working this year, and I've not yet met her, so I won't make that claim for this year, yet.
We always stop at Majikah. Nim and I have been trying to come up with a scent that resembles the perfume she wore when we were dating...back in the 60s. I'm not big on perfumes, but that one made me crazy...called "Oh! de London!"

I've found a couple of recipes online, which may or may not actually be accurate, but both they, and the folks on a forum page I found mention the same notes of scent, so let me see on Friday when I'm at the booth what we have & see what we might be able to sample up on q-tips for you.

I remember those scents from the 60's early 70's. We burned incense to disguise them 8)

Rae, that would be awesome! We will see you this weekend!
Is everyone planning to meet up just this opening weekend? Or every weekend? :)
I think we'll try for every weekend since some people can't make opening.
So, are we meeting just after opening cannon at the bakery on both Saturday and Sunday??
Sunday of opening weekend, I think many of us will be heading in the direction of the FoF gathering.
I will be at the fair both days of the week and will try to make the meet and geet. I all ways lose track of things at the fair.
I agree with Merlin, We'll be heading to the free food on Sunday! But every other day is wide open!
Things may be a little crazy but please say hi if you see me. I love meeting new people from the forum!

This seems like naturally a great place and time for a photo op and meetin' up.
Somehow in all the madness and excitement yesterday, I managed to miss BOTH the meeting-ups, as well as the tailgate. :-\
However, I WILL be around on Saturdays for sure all season, as well as some Sundays, so hopefully I will manage to tame the Faire ADHD dragon long enough to make it to something.
We did manage to make contact with a couple of R/F newbies, including FoxFire and her entourage, and Oswyn Fenecote. ..well-met all!
It was one of the best opening weekends we can recall! I was able to provide His Royal Majesty with fantastic weather, which he thanked me for... such a pleasant chap!

I am stunned! I was looking for people all day both days... I did see Merlin in passing, and very well met sir! and Lady Kaalyn...
Dona Catalina, are you part of the Grand Duchess' court? Funny story , if you are not...
I thought I saw Otwell out of the gate Saturday after cannon, but I wasn't sure at all if it was him.. And never saw Ryk. :( It was a very busy weekend tho, and I had more than a few sips of the Rum you all suggested...

Merlin was ok. Sat and sunday were so windy i doubt you could have heard me anyways. who all will be out this weekend. I have it off and will be at faire just to enjoy with friends and family. I hope to meet up with more people.
Goodness, I wish I would have found this sooner. My wife and I drug a good friend of mine to Scarby on opening day, and he was blown away! We got there around noon as my daughter had a volleyball game that morning. We were in our authentic Mundane garb so nobody saw us. We were invisible.
I'm sure that you heard us, though. Especially my wife's giggle-fits that usually start up after her 4th or 5th Well's Bombardier. Imagine what a chipmunk would sound like after eating a couple grams of weed and washing it down with 4 Red Bulls. Yep. That was her. It was a GREAT day!
My wife are fairly new to Renn Fairs. I took her to Scarby on our second date a few years ago, and we have been hooked ever since! This is our first year as FoF and we plan on being there every weekend! We need to meet you guys. We love the energy yall bring to the fair and find the mood you guys set refreshing.
Oswyn did you assult a member of the court. lol I have to hear this story.
Yes dissension! (I think I spelled that wrong) If you need friendsa to hang around the faire with, you're in the right place. I'm fairly new to the boards as well- you're sure to have fun!

Now that is funny. I just spit my drink all over my monitor :D
Was a great opening weekend for us. We were able to meet a few folke and I did see some folks from afar and hope to meet with them next time. With all the grandkids in tow, that kept us moving and busy and made us a bit sore today!! Can't wait till next trip...

You know... there's one way that's proven to help one find out... and it works every time! haha!
It could have quite possibly been me as I was outside the gate several times during the day.
Lady Kaalyn, Dissension, and any others who care: I will most likely be there all day both days, so hopefully we can all hook up at some point!
I saw quite a few of you, but I can't say I really met any of you. I'm the lass with short hair working the gate. I wasn't trying to be shy or rude, I just didn't feel it was my place to introduce myself while I was working. I won't really have time to meet. I work open to close and my lunch break varies. The days I get out early I pretty well have to head strait home to take care of my kidlets. I would love to say hello or have a quick chat if a lull in traffic permits.
We missed the tailgate. We had another couple with us and my grandkids on Sunday. To many people always makes sure we don't make it places on time.
We did make the bakery right after cannon on Saturday but didn't recognize anyone.
Truthfully I have been losing a battle with a sinus infection and had even less focus at faire than usual.
Eventually I found people at the wine tasting (Donacatalina & Merlin) and Otwell found me sitting on my favorite bench while my Lovely Lady was shopping one of her favorite stores (The tapestry lady). Also some grown woman who claims to be the child I knew as Meggers gave me hugs a couple of times. Impersonator I think.
I'm sure I am forgetting someone but I am currently sitting here at home heavily medicated waiting for the time of my Doc appointment (you know it's gotten bad if I'm going to the Doc's). So for those I met and can't recall right now... I can't wait to meet you for the first time again!

I have a sinus infection thing going on, broke a record and was given 5 prescriptions for it all
I do feel better already though.

we will make another effort to head to the bakery after cannon. Hope to see you there.
My wife and I will be out there tomorrow afternoon with our 8 year old daughter. Hope to meet some of yall!
So i was running late today and didn't to meet anyone. Saw oswyn and his awesome wig but that was about it. Will be back out at fair tomorrow. hope to see a few more people.
I feel sooo bad that I have been busy showing around my "companion ticket" people, and not had any time for you good folks!!! Today was the last day of my free friends! I hope to share tomorrow with other faire friends and I wish so badly to make new friends as well! (That means when you see me, please attack me and say hi!!! Merlin the Elder and Nimue, Dona Catalina and her husband, and Lady Kett and her husband can vouch for me... I do NOT bite too hard!!!)
I saw and spoke with Oswyn a little bit after closing cannon!
I hope to see many people at the tailgate tomorrow, as well as spend MUCH time with everyone else inside the gate!!!
Unfortunately, I won't have much to offer tomorrow at the tailgate, as my Mead was FAAAR more popular than expected... But I will have a small taste to ANYONE who seeks me out, and speaks the code word! ;) (I ABSOLUTELY LOVE seeing other's enjoyment of my creation!!!)
I almost wish we had chosen THIS weekend to come, but so mote it be.
The photos I saw of Oswyn are priceless!
I finally got to meet Oswyn; but it was at lunch when we stopped for some nibbles. The wig was all he said it would be.
The wig was amazing, I loved it. I missed everyone again this weekend. Its what I get for riding with other people. I wanted to go to tail gate both days and didnt get to fair till almost noon each day. :(
I am so happy to have met more of you!
Saturday at closing gate I met Allerick Afon Adou (absolutely delightful wizard chap!) and we got to chatting while the bagpipes played. (Thankfully this all happened post-wig) and Otwell Throckmorton grabbed us and stole us away to his carriage for the best mead I've tasted yet! I so enjoyed chatting with them both, and cant wait to see them again!
And Dona Catalina, you and your party were such a delight! I look forward to chatting a bit more when I'm a bit less hectic. I thought the wig would be popular, but it got far more reaction than I had ever imagined, and I was a bit overwhelmed, to be honest! (in a good way of course).
Sunday I was able to spend a bit more time with Otwell, and I'm glad I did. He is passionate and enegetic about faire and brewing, and a great fellow to be around.
I also passed lady Kaalyn several times on both days. Always a pleasure! and her mum and sister are quite sweet as well.
This weekend was a true reminder to me of why I am so in love with Scarby, and ren faires in general. What an amazing group of people! This is really one of the best weekends I have had in a looooong time. Thank you all! :D
Oswyn, I spotted you in the parade on Saturday and screamed your name . . . thanks for the wee kiss! Tried to find you later on, but never did. The bad part is now I fear I won't recognize you without the wig!
I keep trying to make it to the regular meeting places, but seem to keep missing it. One place I am always sure to be is the Pub Sing at 6:00 in Pecan Grove.
I wish we had been there to see Oswyn's getup in person. I also wish we'd had more time to visit opening weekend. Ah, well...
Well, we missed yall again. We always park on row 12, but didn't have time to stop and chat as we had some friends to meet at the gate with the last of our guest passes. Next week, we are going solo so we will have more time to mingle. Are yall tyhe ones under the tent, or the ones by the Spanish flag?
Oswyn, your garb was friggin awesome! We saw you and wanted to stop and say hi, but you scared the crap out of my daughter! WELL DONE, SIR! I vote that you wear that wig again! You are definitely someone we need to have a beer or a smoke with!
We did meet Portia The Pirate, though! What a random pleasure! Next time, I'll have more to say than "DUH". Completely took me off guard! Next weekend!
What a Great weekend. :D Meet up with DonaCatalina,Don,and BagPipeBabe at bakery.Very nice see and talk to you before our day started. DonaCatalina and BagPipebabe were looking Lovely. Will at court dance seen Oswyn in his wig WOW. Oswyn you looked Fabulous. Then at end of day will Tartanic was playing at closing, Oswyn comes and sits down.We have a delightful conversation, then all of the sudden here comes Otwell. He drag us off to his carriage to taste some Great mead he makes. I enjoyed talking and drinking with you both. I hope to meet more off you all...........Huzzah
Look for the Spanish flag...LOL. among all the St Andrew's crosses. I hope to meet more people that I keep missing.
I will be there with Var this weekend! Looking forward to seeing you all!
Lol I never get to meet anyone. :( Oswyn I saw you walking past the plaza where I was working but you were talking to someone and didnt here me holler at you. :P Next time I have a day off im going to have to come to fair without my friends and family so I can make it to places on time.
So what did everyone think about Adam Richman from man vs food being out at scarby filming for a new show?
Lady Kaalyn, I'm SHOCKED that I haven't run into you yet . . .
Oswyn, do you still get to the Sea Hag pub around 2pm? This coming weekend will be the first one in which I have no friends/coworkers/etc coming out there, so it might be easier for me to meet up with people. I'm not sure I'll recognize you without the giant white wig, though!

Next weekend? Are you working next weekend? I MUST catch up with you at some point before the end of the season! That would just be dumb if we didn't at least get to say hi.
I work sat and then monday we have nothing planned for sat. lol we are so busy the last few weekends its crazy

yes we set up at crown starting at 8:45. Ill be there
This is our last weekend of faire. Im so sad. I really enjoyed working at scarby, it gave me a look at the other side of things. The cast, preformers, and workers all work really hard to make scarby such a wonderful place I cant wait to return next year. I really hope to see everyone I have missed so far, but since im going to be working I doubt it. :P Skitter i am determined to run into you lol. Oswyn your awesome I enjoyed hanging out with you and It was nice to meet Otwell and his lovely ladies. See you all this weekend.
I am determined to run into you, too! I'm gonna come look for you at Crown Pavillion after morning meeting and before cannon. So there. :)
