Title: A Royal Commission
Post by: Lady Kathleen of Olmsted on July 14, 2008, 01:37:44 PM

I have been hesitant to share this at first. But as the weeks get closer for the start of the MNRF season, I said.."What the heck!"

A Rochester couple came to me on 2 July for a need to have a Doublet made for the season. It turns out that we share the same Hair stylist. After sharing their dilema, my name was given out as well as my email address. After much going back and forth, we finally met.

The Doublet in question is for Prince James, brother of King Henry at the MNRF. The doublet will be of a Coppery Tarnished Gold fabric with tons of 4mm Black Diamond Cut beads sewn on in a  geometric design that will sparkle in the sunlight.  Striping will be narrow balck soutach. There will be added Black piping, buttons down the front.

When you attend the MNRF, be sure to say hello to the Prince. I was told that doing a commission for a cast member who plays a ROYAL is a big deal.

Sounds beautiful, Lady K.  Sadly, we can't make the trip to MN this year but will look forward to seeing it the next time we visit there.

how wonderful!
I'm sure it will be beautiful & I can't wait to see it on the Prince. BTW, is he single? He's not terribly disfigured from the pox or somewhat crazy is he?

The Royal Commission  so far.

There will be cuffs for the sleeves, Tabs at the shoulders, and of course, as collar. An unfished idea as to how things will look. The Prince will outshine the King.

As you can see, the soutach gives the Doublet a richer look, giving texture to the amin fabric. The beading will shimmer in the sunlight. I will post the finished product in the sewing thread.

That is looking beautiful!  Knowing John, he won't like being outshone.  Now I have something to tease him about!

The beading and soutach on on the sleeves. There are over 350 4mm beads on each sleeve. Imagine what the Doublet Body will have.

Thanks everyone. The Prince will happy to know that he will be well recieved.

DB!!!

This photo was taken on Labor Day 2006 before I attended the Royal High Tea with the Earl. He could have audutioned for the part after the 2005 season.

I too was well recieved by the King AFTER I took that photo. Then King and the Prince were admiring a a very cute little young lady in a fairy costume.

Funny, I seem to remember this knobby-kneed-string-bean-of-a-guy that was playing the prince (Prince Albert I believe?) the last year or two...unless there was more than one prince?

One is the king's son and the other is the king's brother.

You are correct DB, the one in your pic is Prince Albert.  The other is the King's brother,  Even though his title is Prince, I don't believe he uses it much.

I can also tell you why he chose the name Albert.

Not that it would be too far of a stretch for any of you to guess having said that.

In the intial post, I mentioned that the Doublet was for Prince James, BROTHER to the King.

Sorry for those who were confused.

Last year was his first year as the Prince, and I believe it was in the spring of last year that he told me he was going to play the prince.  I don't believe it is actually linked to any "event" per say.  It is just his type of humor.

Having worked security after hours and during open hours, I can attest to the fact that we have far stranger folk than that.  Much stranger!

I just wanted to let you know Lady Kathleen that I saw the doublet you made for the Prince and it is very beautiful.  When I complimented him on it, he got a huge grin and thanked me.
