In light of the cancelation of the Washington Ren Faire at Gig Harbor, hubby and I are considering Ravenshire. We will be driving down from Montana.
Few questions
Is it worth our time? Do people participate? Are people in garb? Is there an ale house?
Are pets welcome? Can we camp on site?
If anyone has any information, I would REALLY appreciate it.
Truthfully, Ravenshire is a tiny faire that I wouldn't go to due to the 5 hour drive, but I do, because I've friends out near Grand Junction who I don't see too much due to the distance. It's held in a small city park, with all temporary structures (read tents). However, if you like a small intimate event, then it's a good idea. There are many good local performers that also work at CRF, so it's kind of like a little CRF. And a lot less dusty than CRF, since it's a very grassy and well maintained park.
There's a good percentage of patrons in garb, in that those out there are pretty hard-core since there's not all that many people. This year I plan on wearing my court attire in the morning and switching to pirate in the afternoon. For me, it'll be nice to be a patron for a chance, and not have to actually work.
I don't know if patrons can camp on site. I crash on my friend's couch every year. There are a ton of hotels nearby though. It's right by I-70; you can hear the highway traffic from the park.
When is it?
I have a friend that is working at it and he told me when it was but that was at 1 in the morning last night...
Also who has the linkie.... I cant find it.....

thank you ;D
More info on Ravenshire; on-site camping is available for participants, with hotels and camping nearby. If you have friends living in Grand Junction or thereabouts, they may be willing to provide crash space. It is a small faire and we have a loyal group of guilds, merchants and performers that attend each year. For some, it is worth the travel time, as we are more like a family than large commercialized Ren events. So if you're looking to be wowed big-faire style, you may be disappointed, but if you like the small-faire and family type, you may find a family here. Hope this helps.
It is a very fun faire indeed!
Whirly Jig will be there again this year, raisin' a ruckus! ;D
I swear one day I will make it. I move into my apartment just a few days before the festival though, and I don't think I could make it. Too hectic. Plus I am saving my money for Santa Fe in September. Next year maybe! ;D I have a good friend who is doing something there...I want to say palm-reading or some psychic thing like that. She has insanely long red hair and a typical Irish complexion, you will have to bug her if you see her. ;)
Zoe I live about ten minutes from this faire. I'll be happy to say hi to your friend. What's her name?
Melanie.
I am planning to be there at least one day, my chew toy is working it so I gotta go see him there!
Lavender are you gonna be there?
I'll be there, at least for a while on Saturday.
With a only a couple of exceptions, I don't really know what anyone from here looks like (awfully hard to tell with these teeny tiny pictures!), so if you see me, please say hi and introduce yourself!!! I'm usually hard to miss as I'm very non-period in bright red velvet (and if you're not sure, look for the black hair and vampire fangs) ;)
Update on the Ravenshire Ren Faire; A&E are scheduled to shoot an episode of "Tatoo Road" there on Saturday, as small Ren faire was chosen for the episode's theme. Wow, a small Ren Faire that will receive national network coverage! Hope to see you all there.
Awesome!
I will be there, appearing as Awen the harpist, performing on stage and at the Queen's Tea daily....
I'm very very sad and sorry to say that I'll be missing this faire - again - but I hope all of you have a wonderful time and please share your photos!
Cheers!
I cant make it >:( I thought I was gonna pull off sunday but no go there! Car failed hard core and i need the cash to fix it!

I have not read the Harry Potter books, so I am not familiar with the word
apparate!
Mwahahahaha

maybe I should make her a cake.... no one could resist homemade goodies..

Well if you lived close to Toki and I, we would give you a ride, but we are up north and not far from Estes (Loveland)
What am I saying... Were not going to Ravenshire. I blame my confusion on Demetrius and his Hamster's
Christine and I will be leaving Monument, CO at around 05:00am enroute Ravenshire. Hope to be there right at, or shortly after cannon. We are only there for the day, but at least we will have a day.
We will be in the Mesa View Motel just across Front St (within walking distance 0.4 miles). It's just a room with a shower, but out there a shower can be worth it's weight in gold. ;)
Well, got back home to Colorado Springs.
Me, my man, and three friends went out on Saturday. It's a cute little faire. I personally enjoyed not working. The fun-noodle joust was very entertaining. AND I got to sit down rather than standing in the sun on the steps in front of the pavilion... have I mentioned I enjoyed not working?
In the morning, we did our usual Renn thing, and late in the afternoon, returned as characters from Priates of the Caribbean. This was primarily the test of my husband's Davy Jones costume that I finished last week for DragonCon this weekend.
As I was Sparrow, I personally have NO idea how our Captain Jack does it in 95 degree heat. I was ready to die.
Anyway... my photos... although, admittedly, they'e pretty much entirely me and my friends, not anything else there.

I thought you might have been involved in that. One of my friends who was working the faire texted me on Saturday saying "There's a guy here with an absolutely amazing Davey Jones costume." I mentioned to her that you did the Bootstrap Bill thing. She sent me a picture on my phone....pretty awesome!
I just wanted to thank everyone who made Jeff's first faire so memorable. He got properly wenched, by the Cherry Tarts, and got to meet a lot of very wonderful Ren friends. Thanks to everyone - he had a great time and we are already planning garb for him for next season.
This was my second year in a row for Ravenshire, and while there were some minor SNAFU's regarding beer and food this year, it was still a very fun Faire. I think it's pretty certain that I will plan the trip back out next year!
Even though it's small, there is still plenty of good fun to be had by all! Just make for a very long drive home the next day after a few too many meads :-\... Awe, Who am I kidding? there is no such thing as too many meads. ;D
Although I didn't dress my usual, I still had a very good time. Very much enjoyed meeting and greeting everyone!! It was really fun to have such a large contingent of Denver RFers, and meet some new locals as well!
Here's some pics my friend dug up:

Little Bit and I got back last night and we had a blast!
Little Bit got to see his friends from CORF and I finally got to listen to the Whirly Jigs!
Sunday night a group of the gamer boys and I went to the Mcdonalds at 9ish.... the looks on the faces of those inside were enough to make me crack up! A lady, a baby and 3 pirates walking in.. then the demostration of period porn,,,, (see skirts above the ankles) just about killed the sour face behind the counter!

At last year's Ravenshire Faire, a film crew from the A&E Network filmed a lot of us for a pilot for a TV show called "Tattoo Road."
It's now called "Tattoo Highway" and will premiere on the A&E Network on Wed. May 27, check your cable system for times. I was filmed playing the harp.
This is a reality show about a tattoo artist who travels the country. I don't recall seeing him at Ravenshire but there it is.
