Title: The new guy
Post by: RyanT719 on March 02, 2014, 01:39:16 AM
What's up everyone?! Last October was my first time to go to the Texas renaissance festival. As soon as I got there, I was hooked on all this. Lol. I've been missing out on this for 26 years. Well I was hoping some people would help learn stuff I need to know, or just chat. I love this

Did you go in costume or in street clothes?

Street clothes. It was my first time to go. Didn't know anything about the renaissance or the people that go. Lol. And with the important stuff, just trying to strike conversations and talk with some new friends

I hope you do!  Dressing up always makes things more enjoyable.  I don't know about the faire schedule in Texas but there is a link to a list of faires by state on this site, or here..http://meistersrealm.com/Meisters_Realm/Renaissance___Medieval_Faires.html (http://meistersrealm.com/Meisters_Realm/Renaissance___Medieval_Faires.html)

Probably depends on what you want to spend.
There's this thread with a list of places to look.

Texas has a few faire's that take place different times a year.  Sherwood Forest Faire in Bastrop is Feb-March and Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Waxahache is April-May.  Sherwood is my favorite festival, hands down. You should go!  Make sure you camp!

You will be AMAZED at what a difference being in costume makes!  It matters more that you are in costume than what the costume is, because being in costume announces to both cast and playtrons (patrons who come often and in "garb") that you are safe to engage.

A couple of good places to start would be:
http://www.tudorshoppe.com/ (http://www.tudorshoppe.com/)
http://www.pendragoncostumes.com/ (http://www.pendragoncostumes.com/)

Also, you might find it useful to check out the "Garbing" thread on this site.
