I got an invitation to come to the cast open party or whatever its called. Anyone else going?
we are. we're only 10 minutes away. and yes we planned to be in garb.
should we meet out there a little earlier? before 7:30?
We shall be there too...
Don't think I will do the pirate garb though, think I will do the simple garb that Mary sold me that muffin hat for.
I will be going to as long as I get off work early enough, Oh and it says 6:30 on my card.
We'll be there!
Aren't the invites part of the Fest Friends membership?
I received notice of a party but can't find it now. Ach!
Can someone please fill in the details for me via renmail or something.
Thanks!

well thats what i thought because of the email but the postcard doesnt indicate it as such but thats why i started a post similiar to this in fest friends as im wondering if I can justify the drive down there. So if i do come are we gonna party hard??!! if i do come I would camp at Shakopee valley RV park
The girl and I are attending. It starts at 6:30 that night.
This is a "Fest Friends" thing then?
I believe this is basically what used to be called "Dress Press" because it was kind of a "Dress" rehearsal and the "Press" was invited out to preview some acts. They used to do it the weekend before Fest opened, but moved it to a weekday evening a few years ago and I assume is the "VIP/Press Party" mentioned on the Fest Friends website
What do the invites actually say? Peg have more info?
(There's also an "All Cast Rehearsal" for performers which isn't an open thing August 10th)
The postcards are from MAF, via Fest Friends. This was sent to you b/c you registered for Fest Friends early. Please do follow the RSVP directions on the card & reply to the MNRF Office.
Liz and I will be out sharing info about Fest Friends and, yes, we'll be in costume.
One of the fun things that happens that night is you get to try the new foods-free.
We'll be there, in garb. I don't think my pirate garb will be done in time but hopefully my brand new bodice will be here by then so I can be in peasant/merchant garb!
Have fun, everyone!
I'm in a local community theater show that weekend (Aug 7, 8 and 9) so won't make it to Dress Press.
Let us know know how the new food is!
Link Peggy...I know, I'm kinda slow.
(edit add)
oh what the hell who can read print that small. Post card.
Nope, working on those beaches...and who the hell is Grace?
hmmm...don't like the stamp.
I will be out there, not in garb though. Just driving the lovely lady out there for it.
Sean
The invite said to call or email your RSVP to Grace aka renfestintern@gmail.com by August 1st.
Oh... I might be there doing my turning demo. They mentioned they might like some craft demos to show to the teachers they've invited in order to promote their educational aspects for the school visits on Festival Friday.
Anyone happen to know if pets are allowed? I really want to bring my dog because otherwise he'll have to be in his kennel almost all day, but I emailed Grace to ask her and she hasn't responded...
Char,
You could try calling them. the number is the main office I believe. Someone should be able to help you.
Good point, I have the invite with me. I'll call them today.
No pets...phooey. :( Poor pup.
Are people planning to hang out afterwards? We will have a 2 yr old with so will prolly go back to campground (in Shakopee) if anyone wants to visit around the fire.
I am thinking LD & I will probably heading home. I have to work the next morning.

I figured that'd be the case
I think we will be doing tomorrow night sans garb.
We got some other things to do beforehand, so garb isn't a good option for us.

If it isn't too late, and I am not exhausted, perhaps we will for a few minutes. I traded hours with someone at work (earlier) so I may be running on empty by that point.
And I have to work on Friday. :P
I forgot i picked up extra hours.

:o so are you saying your not going to be there? Bummer....
Unless you joined the new Fest Friends http://www.festfriends.org/ group you probably wouldn't get an invite. Fest Friends is a brand new group kind of like the Bristol Fair's "Friends of Fair"
Is anyone arriving early?
Coming from Elk River it will be about an hour drive unless I hit traffic. Wondering about some company if I'm very early.
Unlikely I will stay afterwards since it is another hour home.
Yes, I'm garbing!
I really don't have any reason to pay 30.00 to join a group, most of the benifits are nill to me since I work there.

LD and I were talking about getting there early.
How early is early? The lady and I will most likely be there around 5...ish. I will most likely wander a bit before it all begins, but after that I will down in the campground setting up camp. After that I will be hanging around Bad Manor most likely.
Sean
Just a heads-up in case the front gate is open before things actually start at 6:30. There is a cast call for the performers who are going to be there at 5:30 (probably at the Bakery Stage). So if you are attending in costume you might be accidentally encouraged to listen in if you get there early. Usually all the action for this event is kept up near the front end of site.
See you there.
What to wear, what to wear...
Thanks Groomporter.
Whatever you decide to wear you have to bring a cane. We need a pre-season picture of the famous Groomporter lean.... ;)
Oh I suppose... ;D
I can show off one of the new canes too ::)

No, we are not going to be there. Sad. I was looking forward to it. Probably for the best. Now I have a night to get something for the wedding we have to be at Friday.
I just got approved for the day off tomorrow. So I will be hanging out afterwards, which will be onsite though.
so... when are peoples gonna be out there? we're bout 5 minutes away. oh also.. not really sure what this is really tonight? do they open the gates at 6:30? and or if they open the gates a wee bit earlier, are we aloowed to walk around inside? how does this sort of thing work?
ladiedragon,
I believe groomporter posted some details a little ways down. Tonight is a preview for the press. Anyone who is not press is welcome by invite & RSVP only . . I believe.
I do believe that there will be some food booths open. Not sure about any merchants. Acccess to site is generally limited to the area from front gate to Bad Manor.
Great time out there tonight. Great seeing everyone again!
I don't know really what I expected this be like, but it certainly went above and beyond what I hoped for! I could not believe all the different foods they had out there, along with the beer and wine, and all for FREE!
I think the money we spent to join Fest Friends paid for itself tonight alone!
It was kinda fun going in mudane clothing again. I forgot what it was like to have the cast come and interact with you as a dane again. I learned NEVER to wear a Minnesota Twins jersey out there again! I don't know how many times I had cast come up to me and say "Where's your Twin" or something like that tonight!...LoL
All in all, A really great night. Something to look forward to again next year for sure! This will go on the calender, along with Fest Friday as a must attend event!
Was great seeing everyone tonight MG hope you were able to get Goody out to the van and home to your place, You are right storm this is going on the Calender for Next year as long as we are invited. To bad the site for Fest Friends was not marked would have loved to see it, Oh well Fest is coming soon Time to do the Happy Dance. ;D :D 8) ::)
Had a great time tonight. Free beer. Gotta love it.

Did I hear something? A tiny violins playing a song called "I picked up extra hours"..... ;)
Well all missed you sleepy and you too renjen.... ;D
Fun time last night! It was a good way to really get into Fest mode. And yes, the free drink and food was great - probably paid for about half our membership anyway!
Pulling into the parking lot, I couldn't help but smile and sigh. My eyes instantly went to the left happily seeing the big Oak tree patiently waiting for us to frolic beneath her shading limbs.
Walking towards the gate, going across the bridge, of course, I heard the sounds of the water rushing down the rocks.
Stepping through the doors things seemed familiar, but different. Then someone mentioned the lack of music. That was it, precisely. The grounds were not the same without the music.
What fun it was to walk the grounds a bit, even without the familiar sounds. The smells were there in the form of new woodchips (oooh!), and of course the smoker from the turkey legs.
A couple of new food items on offer were phyllo cream tarts with blueberries and strawberries. A good idea, not quite executed correctly (IMHO). A tilapia sandwich, that, according to Goody, was rather tasty. Another sandwich was the Chick-a-dilly. 2 chicken strips with lettuce and dill pickle. Again, not great. Both sandwiches had WAAAY too much bread for the product contained therein. Perhaps a good idea when consuming beer or mead, but otherwise wasted product to fool you into thinking you were getting your moneys worth because you now feel full. A third sandwich in the tasting was the beef on weck. Yes, that is spelled correctly. A tastey shredded beef in a salted and seasoned bun. My favorite thing was the feta and chips. Simple and light this dip was a spicey feta mix served with crisp corn chips. Add a Greek Salad and you'd have a nice, light lunch.
There were far fewer cast members than I had expected. The main royal court was in attendance and I daresay the king had his hands full "shmoozing" the sponsors all evening. I wonder if the man ever had a chance to eat. Groomporter was there, leaning dashingly on a new cane. Always good to see you. Also a hello to Alice the Cook as she prepped her tools of the trade. I partook of a game, who's name excapes me, with a couple of gypsys. Will have to pick up my own from GP's booth this year.
Overall the event was very enjoyable and a great teaser for the coming season. I hope to be on the guest list in the coming years.

So close and yet so far. But I sure was thinking of you guys just up the road, my heart was there, that's for sure.
Had good time! Now....
Where's the mead?!?

Just like a Pirate stealing the Mead before we can get any :o
Nice pictures from that night! The grounds look nice...I love seeing the flowers and plants. I don't know who puts in all the work to keep those things up but I appreciate it so much. It's one of my favorite things about fest. In fact my favorite weekends are the first two where the grounds are nice and fresh before the grass is all trampled flat.
