True, but you'll have a smile on your face!

Do find time to stop by the "pub" down on the corner near the joust, say hi. Heck bring the guys and we'll buy them a beverage. I always see at least one show of the London Broil just to "say hello to the bunny!" I know you'll be there all season but the last weekend will be great!

Yeah, I will try to remember to stop by at the "pub". I don't drink, but I could stop by. lol - If I remember to bring it up, I'll ask the guys if they want a free round of drinks.

It's good to see some familiar names signing on as the faire draws ever nearer. We also seem to have a fair number of new friends which is great too! The more the merrier. Look for details as the plans are firmed up in September.

Ice Mage, if  possible, I do hope you and White Rose will be able to come down the last weekend when the majority of the gang is on site.

gas prices being what they are...if there is someone open to splitting hotel and/or petrol costs - that would excellent

I'm probably meeting a guy I met online at the faire on November 8. I don't know if he'll be coming just the 8th or also the 9th.

**I guess I could've just modified my last post to say this, sorry!**

The Roll Call of upcoming visitors to Fairhaven has been updated!

Several friends have noted they hold season passes and I have included you on the invasion weekend in hopes that you will be there. Anyone wishing to declare other weekends or to make corrections please let me know.

Keep an eye on the other threads for interesting news like the Lost Boys are coming back for a weekend in October. (points to Lady Tess for a great pick up!)

Visitors to Fairhaven should note that Trouble with Friends is correct that North Carolina is very strict in dealing with where one can and can not drink. Lady Guinness will keep Scotsman under control  ;), the rest of us will behave like we've done this before and a great time will be had by all!

Nothing could be finer than a faire in Carolina. (Ouch) Looking forward to seeing everyone this fall at Fairhaven.

www.barelybalanced.com  watch the video - i took a few of the clips.

Please check them out and email the faire to let them know you loved them!

Our current plan is for the week-end of the 8th-9th.  That is, if we can wait that long.  We've been to four faires this year, but they were all in the spring... seems like forever ago!   ;)  October is a busy month for us, though, which is why we decided to target November.

Heads up to all attending the second weekend in October.

That is race weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway and you will enounter high room rates and heavy traffice on both I-77 and I-85. CRF will go on as normal and be its usual great time, but do plan on getting your room reservations early, plan on a higher than expected room rate, and most importantly add extra time to your travel time estimates! Once you get to Fairhaven everything is fine, its just a matter of getting there!

I know you will have a good time and find friendly faces whenever you arrive, however, during race week the area (and the prices) goes a bit crazy. The royal purse may find it easier on another weekend.

Hmmm, there seem to be a few familiar faces coming in November.

The Galway Hooker is VERY easy to get to:

Exit Faire, go left
Go to first light, turn left (there is a new McDonald's on your right as you make the turn)
go straight about 7 miles and turn right just after Lake Norman Baptist Church
go about 1/2 mile look to your right - the Galway Hooker is in the same shopping center as Bruesters Ice Cream.

Every faire has a day of wrong, it's just that not many take it to the extreme like MDRF ... just completely wrong!

Most playtrons tend to do something that is wrong for them ... very mild usually ... unnoticeable for the mundane. Sometimes it is as simple as wearing a mix matched button or a different piece of garb. Md just goes crazy and it has snowballed into the phenomenally wrong.

Well, YEAH!  It IS MDRF... I particularly like the couple that go in period correct TYE DYED garb... WOOHOO!  I laugh every time I see them...

Unfortunately, that garb is gone.  :(

Thank goodness they are OK - but now they have to start completely over as far as material belongings are concerned.

I hate to say it, and even though we have eaten dinner "off duty" at Chef Wang's, I'm not sure I would recognize her at faire without her royal garb. The weather cooperated so I hope all went well.

I, my wife and my son will be attending almost every day this year.  We always miss opening day as it happens to be the same day as the 'Brushy Mountain Apple Festival' and we help a friend with her leather work every year.   ...but the good news is that we're anticipating being there every other day.

(We're still trying to figure out who we 'are') My son has garb fit for a Musketeer, and he also 'borrows' my chainmail and sword for another look.  My wife and I will be garbed differently most weekends.  We came as Lusty Captain Lisa and her 'mate' Bloody Bob for the second weekend.  All in all we've found ourselves overwhelmed in deciding 'who' to be...so we'll just change it up and play a different game every weekend.  I did get some leather armor this year and cannot wait to show up all weighted down (I think it weighs in around 30 - 35 lbs.)

I believe that we were all clustered around the 'pub' in the shade, for the most part.   ;)  We were with a bunch of pirates... and since Lady M and I were cheering most loudly throughout the day at various shows/jousts, we had to keep our throats well and truly oiled with some libations from the pub.  Sorry we missed you!!!
Title: Re: CRF 2008 Weekend Roll Call

Speaking of pubs...*sigh*. I pretty much camped out at the pub at "NCRF" both days that I was there. The most beautiful 'bar wenches' had nothing to do with that! I was apparently sauced enough that a knight expressed concern over my well-being. Obviously I made it! Haha! A funny thing that occured: After a long, busy day in the pub that Saturday, I somehow made it to the Sheraton hotel and stumbled in, dressed as I did back then: Totally in black complete with black BDU pants, a somewhat diabolical metal band's shirt, arm bracers, and spiked boots that belong at a metal concert. It being the Sheraton on a weekend, there was a high-society meeting going on...apparently due to copious amounts of mead, I had a tough time finding the huge front desk. Hey, not my fault they had a small ice-sculpture in front of it! I had to ask a fine gentleman in a clawhammer-tail coat and a ten gallon hat where the front desk was. I'll ne'er forget the look on his face. PRICELESS! I think he thought his meeting was about to be invaded by a highly inebriated version of Lucifer! Haha! ...and that was a hillarious moment brought to you by the pub at NCRF!

I & my SO are on for Nov. 1.

In the vein of meeting people, do you guys plan ahead to meet up with fellow R/Fers (or anyone else for that matter) or just spy someone you know from a distance and go up to them? I guess something in the back of my head always tells me that it'll be creepy if I walk up to someone and say "I recognize you from a picture online... I think." or something :P
Title: Re: CRF 2008 Weekend Roll Call

Some people do plan ahead to meet others. Most just walk up and say hi. I've been going to CRF for a while now, but I don't know that many of the 'regulars' so I always get a kick out of it when people walk up and introduce theirself. So yeah, if you spot someone you think you know, walk up and say hi. Chances are they'll appreciate it and be glad you did! =)

The only meet up ahead of time at CRF that I know of will be the final weekend with the big R/F invasion and gathering of the Clan M'Crack. Otherwise, it catch as catch can or just make arrangements within the thread to say meet up at one of the pubs or shows. The corner down by the Medieval Margarita Pub is very popular and you can usually find some of us sharing a pint and a story or two.

Definition of FoCM

Friend of Clan M'Crack - A good friend that travels with the clan, attends family gatherings, invasions and other events with the family, but for reasons all their own, have not petitioned the Clan for membership

So far we are showing 61 members on the list to attend.    We are also expecting at least 15 Lepus and with what I know at this time about 20 FoCM

Me friends, thank ye very much! Me hope ye all had a grand time at thee faire this day. For me friends who won't be at thee faire when I am, I will also raise a tankard to me absent friends.
Thee yardsale went so well that Queen Mum threw me a few pence for thee faire on the morrow, so it was a good day. Queen Mum ended up having a good day money wise, and got to spend the day with her young son ( rogue ).

TOMORROW IS ME DAY AT OUR FAIR SHIRE!....for those that will be there on the morrow, meets with me at the pub at 12:01, and we will all start the day right by rasing our tankards!

It is less than a week away and time for the update.

For those leaving from Raleigh and plan to travel with Julia and I, We will need you at our house before NOON as we plan to get on the road by then.   We have at least two vehicle leaving from our place and possibly a third, so I you want to travel and just split the gas, let us know ASAP.

We have 5 rooms reserved at the Quality Inn....with a few others that we can call in if needed.....let me know if you need space in a room.   Rooms are $69 per nite for the M'Crack rate, so with tax it should cost approx $38 per person total for the two nites with 4 to a room.
Right now I have four of the rooms filled.  Please ask for the rooms registered under the name Justin Driscoll or Clan M'Crack......Julia and I will be in early afternoon on Friday and will check in....If you want, just let me know your coming and need a spot and I will make sure we have one.  Right now I have in the rooms  (subject to change as per some individual wishes)

I still have an offer from Loot'n and Plunder that some of you can stay at their home.  The house is not very far from the fair......You will need to bring your own towel, sleeping bag or blanket and pillow and your own beverages.  He is asking for $10 per head for the weekend stay.   He has room for a half dozen or so.....Email Loot'n M'Crack at jsgravely0406@yahoo.com if your interested and he will make sure you have an address or directions to his place.   This is a great offer for those that are trying to pinch some pennies on this trip.

It's less than a week till the invasion of CRF and the list of attendees has grown way beyond anyone's imagination.
But just like jello, there's always room for more!

Friday night 7:30 pm at the Galway Hooker Pub is now a tradition. Please pray for good weather as we may overflow onto the patio! Lady M has spoken with the management and extra Guinness has been ordered. For those who need dinner, the Galway Hooker has a full dinner menu and some decent sandwiches and burgers too. Gentlemen of the Clan M'Crack know the dress code for the evening.

Saturday morning 8:30 am the tailgate meet-n-greet will be held in the VIP Parking Lot. Seriously look for the Irish Flag, we have a 15 foot flag pole so you should be able to see us. We arrive early so we'll be in one of the front rows near the entrance of the fair. Any of the locals who wish, please bring a little something to share and break everyone's fast.

Saturday evening will find many of our company back at the Hooker for dinner. Many are still in garb and once again a great time is had by all.

Newcomers do not be shy, to paraphrase the spirit of Christmas, "come over and know us better!" Garb is not required, but after meeting this crew you'll come in garb next year, its a whole new and better world!

Group Pictures will be attempted both Saturday and Sunday morning at the tailgate before opening cannon. Then both days we will attempt a group picture at high noon  with everyone meeting at the corner by the Medieval Margarita Pub.  This is the corner down by the joust, its in the middle of Fairhaven so no matter where you are you can get to us on time. We have several excellent photographers posting in the forums, I do hope at least one of you will be present to take a nice picture we can all share. Rogues please note the local guild rates for blackmail in the Carolinas will be enforced.

Sunday morning we start all over again.

Looking forward to seeing everyone this upcoming weekend!

Dubl'n M'Crack
Chief of the O'Neills

It is with mixed feelings I write this post. Lady Di and I are cancelling our trip to CRF. Our oldest son's team this past weekend won their semi final football game. This coming weekend he'll play in the Mid Maryland Youth Football League age 9-11 Super Bowl. While we are all disappointed to not be able to make the trip we are all very excited about his game and very proud of him and his team. So drink a pint for us this weekend. Hopefully we will be spending some time with a Super Bowl champion.

My brother and mother will be accompanying me Saturday; while my brother's pretty easy going, my mom has never quite gotten the hang of my willingness to meet "internet people" so I may have to only briefly say hi and then come back Sunday to socialize (Or head to the Hooker Friday and/or Saturday. What do they have to sip on there besides Guinness? ;D)

That said, whenever I DO make it there, I'll be happy to do photos, although my gear is more suited to portraits in ones and twos rather than group shots (It really wouldn't surprise me a lot if I had shots of some of you regulars already from my previous visits)

Dallan-

Sorry to hear that you guys won't be in, but a Super Bowl is pretty incredible!  That's something for him and his team to be very proud of.  Wish him good luck in the game for us.

Please try to make it down next season- I know you and Di and the boys would love CRF.  It's a beautiful faire.

Oh well, guess we'll see you guys come spring, at VARF, huh?

Dirtfarmer - it will be wonderful to see you and your lovely Mad Maggie. I have missed you both!

And if I remember correctly, I believe I have an "appointment" with a certain gentleman (Lord AbleArcher) for a portrait too - provided I can persuade Lady Mikayla to introduce us!  ;)

I enjoyed a nice pumpkin ale by Blue Moon there last week whilest noshing!

Would you like four more? I picked up a six out of curiosity a few weeks ago and just can't get my tastebuds around it.  Let me know, I'll be happy to put the remaining bottles in the car to hand over to you on Saturday!

As if there was anything else worth drinking...but the bar selection is such that you will not be lacking several choices.

Hah, not that I'd dream of disparaging such a fine thing as Guinness, it's just that sometimes I develop a powerful craving for hops, then it's bitter, pale, and IPA time  8)

As my duty, Molden and I went to the Galway Hooker to personally inspect the Guinness.  Yes, it was a sacrifice however y'all are worth it.  And I am happy to report it was delicious!   ;D

On behalf of the Carolina families of the Clan M'Crack I thank all of the friends and cousins who joined us in Fairhaven this weekend. The spirit of friendship and the warmth of the gathering was such that the chilly winds do not stand a chance.

To those who missed it, lets just say the Royal Court at Fairhaven, especially the Prince, will never be the same. The wooden timbers of the Galway Hooker will forever resound with the sound of cheering to "To The Clan M'Crack!"

Congrats to all the new members, and to the new pets all I will say is "may your year go swiftly." Now who has "John?" Forget your paperwork and you'll find out.

To Fairhaven's cast, you made the weekend special, but next time you may want to bring more than four pikeman when you are explaining the laws of the shire to the M'Cracks.

It was a great season completed by one of the best invasions ever. I and my family and all the M'Cracks of the Carolinas look forward to meeting you all again next year at M'Crack Corner in our village of Fairhaven

I was there, and had a blast!! I was too shy, however, to introduce myself to those I recognized from the forum.
But, if you saw this young lady... http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=60505158&albumID=2458477&imageID=39741050 (http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=60505158&albumID=2458477&imageID=39741050) ...then you saw me.

Hopefully next time I'll be less shy.  :-[

Emma, are you planning on coming to MDRF Rendevous 2009? I was so disappointed I could not make it there. Looks like everyone was having a great time.

Probably not...MDRF...is that in Maryland?? I've not actually got the means to travel much beyond my home state right now. I live in SC, so I'm planning to check out the GaRF and NCRF next year...and of course I'll be at CRF again!!
