Do you have a favorite Faire Act?
I have a few;
Owain Phyfe (http://www.owainphyfe.com/)
Wild & Thorny (http://www.iris-n-rose.com/)
Donal Hinely (http://www.donalhinely.com/)
top my list.
The following are our favorites:
The Rogues (http://therogues.com)
Cut, Thrust & Run
Cast In Bronze (http://castinbronze.com/)
Queen Anne's Lace (http://www.qalace.com/front.php)
Don Juan & Miguel (http://donjuanandmiguel.com/)
My favorite act of all time was the "Flaming Idiots", don't know if they are still around but they are long gone from MNRF. Current...the one and only, Iris and Rose. "Moose, moose, I like a moose..."

I do believe the Idiots(as a group) are long since retired, though I have heard that at least one of them still works at Scarborogh(I spelt that wrong didn't I?)
The Tortuga Twins, they had me nearly in tears at Carolina last year.
Ded Bob
The Zucchini Brothers
Bedlam Bards
The DaVinci Brothers
'Boru's Ghost' tops my list for Celtic Bands. They play a mix of traditional & "modernized" Celtic music. I've never seen such energy in a drummer. The whole crowd gets caught up in the fun.
My favorite hammered dulcimer player is Dustin Cooper. His talent is matched by his humility on stage & off.
I think the best comedy act around is 'The Brothers Dimm'. Their mud show brings laugh after laugh.
For swordplay & comedy, how can you beat 'The Twisted Blades'. We are truly blessed in Oklahoma w/ these great local acts. Huzzah!
Moonie the Magnificient, and of course, Albannach
Me love me some Tortuga Twins and also Don Juan & Miguel! and the Joust, I do love me a good, robust Joust! The Hanlon-Lees guys that joust at CRF are absolutely Yummy!!! ;D :-*
I do not have a favorite but there are certain acts I am sure not to miss:
Pyrates Royale
Tortuga Twins
Free Lancers (jousting)
O' Danny Girls
Puke & Snot
Hack & Slash
Shakespeare's Skum
Wolgemut
London Broil
Hey Nunnie Nunnie
Don Juan & Miguel
Ded Bob
Zilch TorySteller
Manolete
To mention a few....
Gotta be Iris & Rose - they will just about make you pee yourself. They debauched my son last year at TRF, never saw him look so happy or nervous all at the same time. Ded Bob, of course. Don Juan & Miguel - humor & swashbuckling are a hard combination to beat.
I believe my favorites at our faire this year (GLMF) were Broon, Zoltan the Adequate, Axel the Sot (can only watch him when the kids stay home though), and Porter and Stout
Empty Hats, without question.
Has to be Ded Bob - at the Arizona Ren-faire- I've been to twice.
The Roses, at ORF and TnRF.
Definitely have to add Tartanic to my list after this weekend. My girlfriend STILL hasn't stopped playing their CD!!!
The Dregs, of course!
Iris and Rose
Zilch the Tory Steller
Tartanic

My all-time favourite will always be Craig of Farrington, who manages to remember me every time I see him, and at all the different Faires I've seen him at!
Others I've listed by Faires I saw them at
At KYHRF:
Doktor Kaboom
Pickle Brothers
At OHRF:
Saffron Finch
The Swordsmen: Dirk and Guido
At TNRF:
Johnny Phoenix
Porter and Stout
Empty Hats
Hob the Troll always cracks me up!!
Love his "Hush Money" basket!
Early Faire favorites were: Carol on harp and Tony Selvage on violin at the Agoura Faires in the 70's. Also Pitu Guli (ethnic music and dance) from the old days. Sol Feldthouse (master middle eastern musician).
Later Faire Favorites: Hahbi Ru (John Compton's bellydance troupe); Chris Caswell on harp.
Recent Faire Favorites: Craig of Farrington. Empty Hats. Owain Phyfe with whomever is accompanying him from Cantiga to The New World Renaissance Band. The Roses. Porter and Stout (because they do "Freebird" on request. And they do it so well). The late E Muzeki. Paolo Garbanzo (because I'm a fan from wayback of the Karamozovs). Aryeh Frankfurter (harper and violinist extraordinare).
This may get me flogged/shot/lynched/tarred and feathered, but, for as much as I've heard about them, I was very...unimpressed...with Boca Musica. Maybe I just caught them on an "off day" :-\

The late E Muzeki.
They're called Elysium now.
Actually, most of E Muzeki has become Wine and Alchemy (I got their CD). I assume you mean Elysium is where Jenny went?

Yes, they are planning to be there. ;D
Some of my favorites:
Minstrels of Mayham (and the New Minstrel Revue)
Daniel Dowland
Tourdion
Moonie the Magnificent
Gypsy Molotov
Molly & the Tinker
Whose Time Is It Anyway?
Bounding Main
And probably lots more I can't think of at the moment!
Since the economy has shook up the circuit a bit, anyone found some new favorites?
Despite some technical troubles they were having when I saw them at Scarby, I really liked Wine & Alchemy. Looking forward to catching them again.
Some of the acts I really like need to freshen things up some with some new bits...or maybe I just see them too often!
The two that pop in my head right off are:
>Wild & Thorny (Comedy)
>Circa Paleo (Music). They will be at Sherwood also!!
Wild & Thorny, a.k.a. Iris & Rose are great! Always try to catch their act. Have not seen/heard Circa Paleo as yet, but am looking forward to their show at Sherwood.
I enjoyed a new act called Ogrot at the KC Renfest this past year.
The best on the west coast is Adam the Bawdy Juggler.
Sidekick and I are officially Iris & Rose aka Wild & Thorny groupies.
Circa Paleo and Iris & Rose are my favorites by a mile.

Mmmm, Jenny & Kelly... ;) ;D
Hey Nunnie Nunnie!
I can't believe the Jolly Rogers haven't been mentioned in this post yet!! 20 years at faires behind them and they're still rockin'! As far as my other favorites, the Musical Blades, Ogrot and the Beerside Scoundrels top the list. Owain Phyfe is another fave even though I've never seen him live.
Music: Wine & Alchemy and the Dregs
Stage Acts: Pizpour the Magician
(I also agree on the Jolly Rogers and Ogrot)
I never thought I'd say this after their last 'less than stellar' performaces; but I miss the Corsairs as they performed their first few years.
Definitely Circa Paleo. The music is great and they invite our girls up on stage to dance. Because Jenny always remembers their names, it really makes faire extra special.
Johnny Phoenix cracks us up every time.
My 8 year old's favorite and one of ours too is the Washing Well Wenches.
As always Silent Lion.
Thom Bedlam (please come back to GLMF)
Plunder Doggs are so much fun! We miss Porter and Stout together.
NYRF is my home faire and here are some of my favorites:
Music: The Crimson Pirates, Wolgemut, Cast in Bronze, Henry Martin, Phillip Hole (the singing gravedigger)
Performers: Dexter Tripp, Hey Nunnie Nunnie, Stewart & Arnold, Washing Well Wenches, Arsene Dupin, Vixens en Garde, Ded Bob
I have a question, and it's not intended to insult or cause a small war...
What is it with Cast in Bronze? Admittedly, it's a fascinating concept, good entertainment, music is fine, but it's way anachronistic for a Renaissance faire. Now I realize that many of the performers use some sound reinforcement, and back in the day, very few troubadours carried a Fender Passport portable PA, and even fewer had a 120-volt socket to plug it into. But the MIDI or pre-recorded rock tracks that they use really ruin it for me. If the music was more period, and sounded more period, I think I would like it a lot.
Again...just me...but anyone else have this reaction to it?
Favorite acts, hmmm... that is a tough one.
Bob Ford and the Ragamuffins
Owain Phyfe
Gibbon the Troubador
Albannach
The Rogues
Tartan Terrors
Drunk'n Sailor (heard them perform at the last Castleteers gathering)

I can remember when no one had miked sound (at faire, no, I'm not
that old!)...Although it can be nice with the bigger crowds, it also bleeds a lot into other acts and I love to support those few who carry on without amplification...At least try and conceal it tastefully somehow.
I have enjoyed Cast In Bronze as a novelty, it probably would really be just as good without the MIDI and pre-recorded tracks.
I think what bothers me the most are the rock drum tracks (in the Ren Faire setting). Don't get me wrong—I'm a rock musician in my spare time. If it is MIDI tracks they are using (I say "they" because there are more than one behind the mask), it would be quite easy to replace some of the modern instrumentation with older instruments, but I don't know if they do their own tracks.
The advent of good wireless systems is making it possible to add reinforcement, and there are ways of doing it in such a way that it doesn't bleed over so much. It would take a financial commitment by the faire operators, though, and I don't see that happening. As a musician, I know how tight most club owners are about providing any kind of support for their acts, at least in my part of the country. We're lucky to get enough power to run our shows sometimes!
The Jolly Rogers ( I am pissed an ex took off with my CDs from them)
Whirly Jig
Charming and Dashing
I havent gotten to any other faires for a while so I gotta stick with my local faves!
Circa Paleo /thread
Owain Phyfe
Owain Phyfe
Owain Phyfe
Danger Committee ;D
Looks like crazy people throwing knives at each other... like Stewart & Arnold at Scarby.
Well yes, they might BE kind of crazy, but extremely funny and its a GREAT show! ;D
As Gauwyn says, attend MNRF and see! :)
The joust
Tartan Terrors, Rakish Rogues, Sultry Sirens Of Sin, Barely Balanced, and Coyote Run for favorite band!
