Thought it was time to re-create this thread from the old forum.
I've often though it would be neat to have an off-season "Con"(vention)/trade fair for Renaissance fairs for networking and maybe discussion panels for things like clothing, acting, merchanting, contract negotiations, etc. It's been tried in California, but I think it died, so maybe there's not enough interest for a separate event, but the Reenactorfest in Chicago http://reenactorfest.com/ is a multi-era event that could host some of those aspects as a subset of the event, especially since it already attracts some Renfair people from the Bristol fair.
For an up-coming event we'll be at Feast of the Hunter's Moon http://www.tcha.mus.in.us/feast.htm September 27th and 28th In West Lafayette, Indiana. It's a huge 40 year old event with an 18th century theme. It's bigger than many Renfairs and a great place to shop for cross-over costume bits and accoutrements that might fit in more than one era.
I've wanted to go to that but never have, I belive to camp inside you have to be invited, and they check out your kit before you ever pitch camp.

Yeah, "Feast" is a relatively strict event for participants. Last year we got asked to change a small display of some of our facsimile bone dice that were in little plastic bags, but it's still a fun event and unlike many reenactments they have lots of amateur volunteers, so they don't require people to stay in period attire after hours.
LOL! Out here in Southern California we don't need a re-enactors fest....just go to any Renfaire here and you can see it all. :D

Hi . Shannon of southeast Michigan here. (aka Lady Shadowcat at Festival; The Colonial Peddler in Reenacting)
In and around the Detroit metro-area, I sell at events near my hometown. There are Reenactments (of diff. time periods) all over the U.S.A. For a fun, teaching experience --try a reenactment: they often cost less than the zoo/Cedar Point, etc.
Historical reenactment a type of role-play where people recreate aspects of a historical event /period.

I went to the Reenactor Fest in Chicago last year, and it was enjoyable. The best part, though was the Reenactor's Ball in the evening. It was a DJ, not a band, but who noticed? I saw a Spitfire pilot sitting out while all the Germans took over the floor for a dance. There were lots of people from the 40's, military and civilian, and the women looked great. There were Romans and Greeks, Yankees and Rebels, etc, all out on the floor together. I even got a few compliments and questions about my Norse garb. Not too common. Then, the Show and Tell portion during the day, was awesome, where all the reenactors had a few minutes up on stage to explain who they were and show off their outfits in detail. Y'gotta go!
