YAY Beer Weekend!!! Three days of festing, and visitors from AZ!!!
;D ;D ;D
I'll be out there but may seem like a zombie. Yay for two 12 hour production days before fest?
I'll be there at least 2 days, possibly all 3! Wooot!
LD & I should be there all three days.
From Friday afternoon until Monday night! It's like a vacation! Camping, alcohol, grilling!!
I work Friday night and Sunday night. I will be going home with Avalon Monday night and actually enjoying myself Saturday night.
Tanner will be onsite Sunday during the day.

Had so much fun meeting new people and re-meeting others! Hope to bump into a couple of you this weekend!!
1 more day of work to choke down...well half a day since i'm lazy like that. then a short coast to Friday, can't wait to be on the plane
Gin and I will both be there on Saturday.
I will be there Sunday and/or Monday.
I'm still working out some details, but I think that Lord Fig and I will be out on Saturday - if everything works out. Hope to see you all there and spend time with you!

I shall be there from Friday night until Monday night as well. Oh...the week after that will be rough! Can't even sleep in cuz the boy starts school and his bus is a half hour earlier than last year!
I'm sure I'll see many of you at Foaming. Yay for Foaming.
Psst...Muffin..."you know who" is getting on my last nerve. She's now complaining about me to Dana. I'm gonna be forced to shank her.

Not until you mentioned it, but it sounds like a lovely idea!
if you are going to the claddagh, i'll be there!!!
Brandi and I will definitely be there Saturday as normal. Can't wait to have some laughs with everyone.
The Marquis and I are packing tonight! We can't wait to get on that plane tomorrow!
See everybody Saturday morning!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I would be out for a pub night, have to close Fri night. The price you pay to get the weekend off... :(
It will be great to see you two again... ;D
Well I finally got things caught up with my agency so I can start picking up extra shifts. Bad part is I have to start this weekend. So it looks like 8 12 hours (edit) shifts in a row for me starting tonight. So no fest this weekend unless I get cancelled Friday night. With my luck that will happen, but them Im out a ton of money. If you see me Saturday yippee, if not have a few drinks for me as I will be slaving away.
Wow, hate to hear that Sleepy. We will miss you.

we'll be stopping at Joanns on way down and then setting up camp so I dont think I'll make it to a pub night but if you end up going DB give me a call!

Still have grocery shopping to do that night, as well as replace the airmatress with a fouton matress, move a small freezer from Bad Manor to the new Tea shoppe by front gate....
By that time, I may need a drink or two. Perhaps I can convince the lady.!?

PLEEZ make sure there is some mead left in the morning? I will be sad if I have driven near-6 hours to get a whole lotta nothin' :'(
I'm sure that there will be no problem getting mead on Saturday morning Doc. It's monday that you have to worry about! I plan to drink the Mead booth out of at least one type of mead by Monday morning! ;D
It just gets better. I just got a call from a good friend. I totally forgot he and his wife are coming in tomorrow for a week. And they are staying with us. So I guess I prolly wont be working and will be playing. I have to talk it over with Jenn but I think I should take them too Fig's. Unfortunatly Casey is gone at her Grandparents so we dont have a babysitter this weekend. My plans keep changing like the wind.
M'Lord Garadeaux and I will be there as well, hope to meet some of you in person this year! (Only peeps I met last year was the Baron, though I definitely wont forget him ;) ).
Okay...I'm about half-packed....I haven't packed my jewelry yet ;)
Our plane doesn't land until 5:25 pm (Minnesota time) tomorrow so I doubt we'd be able to do anything on Friday...I expect we'll arrive at our hotel around 7 pm.
The Marquis and I and Sir Scott and Lady Jessanne and Davood and Mojgan (I think) are all staying at the Best Western Chaska River just over the bridge from the fest.
I'm soooooo ready for this vacation...I'm already there. ;D
Yay for Lady J!!!!! And the Marquis. And the new friends!!!
I am out tomorrow night for Pub Night too. Too much grocery shopping and weekend stuff to do so I can play on Saturday and Sunday.
See everyone at 10-Mead booth.
Humph...
our clothes washer died and the new one we ordered won't arrive until Tuesday, so I had to borrow the neighbors' washer to make sure I had clean shirts for the weekend and all the dust was washed out of the display sets of our fabric games.
There should be three of us there - Dan (the gent in my pic), I (the one getting the love), and Dan's wife Kara (not pictured)! Cannot wait to see everyone!

Apparently I did win the bet....but I won't say absolutely until Saturday morning. The Marquis is tricky that way.
The Marquis will be donning a *ahem* "kilt" of sorts. I couldn't convince him to don one of my great tartans but I did make him a kind of great kilt. Only The Marquis would have come up with this idea...it's all his doing.
At any rate...it will make for much conversation of the "Auld Alliance" between the Scots and the French.
:)
Can't wait can't wait can't wait........come ooooooon weekend.
I will kinda be a solo act this weekend now...
Many of you (those who follow my myspace page) know of Gins moms situation. It has taken a turn for the worse.
Her mom does not have a lot of time left.
Gin has a lot of time off from work banked, and is now taking it to be with her mother...
I will be at faire this weekend as a solo act, except for the day that my mother (once again those who follow my myspace know about her battle too) and my godmother will be with me.
All packed except for what's left in the dryer...9:30pm here and I'm so excited nervous I doubt I'll be getting much sleep, if any ....can't wait to be on the plane and on our way, can't wait to see you all Saturday morning. The pub sounds great, but having never been there before, we are going to be depending on Juliane and the Marquis to get our bearings and where to go.
Hope it's not a sign for the weekend...
I was taking the recycling out to the curb last night and noticed the Guinness box full of empties seemed a little heavy. I almost recycled 6 bottles of Guinness and 6 bottles of Woodpecker Cider. :o

Got everything that wasn't left in the van washed and packed. Had to change all my plans on what to wear since the temperature forecast has steadily risen. Pulled out all my old garb too cuz The Nina Chicken is working this weekend and needs to borrow it. Still gotta jump in the shower as well as refill our 5 gallon water jug. George should be home in an hour and then we will head out to site. See you kids tomorrow.

Rob needs to work at Fest so we can just come out Friday and camp until Sunday.... that sounds nice.
Storm, I'm sorry to hear that Gin's mom had taken a turn for the worse. It's good that she has some time she can take off to be with her, though. I'll look forward to seeing you and your mom this weekend!
It's almost here! Just 15 hours 45 minutes til cannon! ;D :D
Sam and I will be there sunday. Possibly with a friend in tow, but right now it doesn't look like she'll make it. Sam's boss will also be there that day with her family.
Looks like it is going to be a hot weekend! Just checked the forecast. Lots of sun and lots of heat. Highs close to 90 all 3 days.
Make sure to bring the sunscreen and...
plenty of fluids... ;D
We are going up north for the weekend. Taking the kids to see the grandparents and all that. School starts next week and this is the last sure weekend of playing in the lake.
Leavening the house now see you at the gate. ;D
Good chance I'll be out this Sunday...maybe.
Van is fixed, eyes are still screwed. We shall see.

Mead Booth 10:00 am. That's where we meet.
If you don't know where the mead booth is. Head straight towards Bad Manor from the main gates. When you get there walk down lane on the right hand side of the Manor. You will pass a mead booth on your left (wrong one...keep walking). Past the chess both and into the Upson Downs food court. The food is on left. You will see a cigar booth on your right. Just past the cigar booth on your right in the Mead Booth.
We are the ones who wear the R/F pins. I small pin shaped like a shield with letters R and F on it.
If you can't make the Mead booth just look for those R/F pins as you wander around the grounds. When you see someone with one you know they are one of us.
http://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php?topic=210.0
Hit on the on the link and scroll down and you will see a pic of what the pins look like.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the post Storm. Am trying to make it to our first mead booth morning Sunday. That is why I like this forum and the Ren community always open and inviting to people.
In case anyone is still checking the boards before heading out, not sure Sam and I will make it to the mead booth at 10.
I don't think I will be making the 10:00 am mead booth meeting myself.
I forgot I have a fantasy football draft later this morning. I will probably be out after that.
So very bummed...I know the heat and humidity of this weekend would pert near kill me. I'd have to leave by 11:00...no fun or me.
Got there about 10.45 yesterday. I saw a large group of piraty-types (is that even a word?) sauntering away, so I think I missed the lot of ya. A great day regardless, even though I did get the tiniest kiss from that fiery ball of death on my cheeks! Hope the rest of the weekend treats y'all well. If you make it to KC on the 13th, please drop me a line as I will be there as well. Take care, MN family! Back to Omaha I go.
The wife and I can't make it the rest of the weekend. Monday is still a possible, but a slim one right now. Either way it was a great day Saturday day and night. I wish it never had to end.
Well I got to meet some of you fine folk this morning for the first time, and I am so very glad I did. I am looking forward to tomorrows 10AM meeting.

Easiest is walk up and say "Hi". Simple and a good start. Don't worry about courage, think of all the wonderful people you'll meet.
You will be glad you did.
Ferret
Yeah, I know. I just didn't have enough time to pre-order a pin before we left, and circles are a bit...intimidating! Was hoping to catch a glimpse of the Baron and talk to him as a way of "sneaking in", but didn't see him or the Baroness. Guess they had other plans. Next year I will talk to you all, I promise!

I think I saw you later in the day. You had loverly garb! And it took me a while to work up courage too. I ended up meeting everyone at a pub night after fest was over. That was three years ago-Wow-that went fast!
Thank you for the compliment! I want to add more details to it next year....we brought the sewing machine to the hotel just to try and get everything done on time!
Blech, what a lousy Labor Day, hot, brain-dead mundanes and sh--ty sales.
Thank you to everyone who did come out.
GP, aren't most mundanes brain dead?
Thank goodness for drunks with cash/visa cards!
Groomporter, I heard someone mention that they were only at 60-70% of sales as compared to previous sales...I take it this was the same for many shops then? Hope you all made ends meet and a little profit at the end of the day, a 30-40% reduction in income is never a fun thing.
All the shopkeepers I talked to in my area, said their sales were terrible. One said they sold only one item, another said they had 2 sales. Labor Day this year was quite slow and not very many people. Not sure if it was the weather, economy, or what. We were sitting there until 3 pm before we had sales and then near the end, we had several good sales, so all was not lost.

Sometimes, but usually their brains aren't poached as well.
By late afternoon one of our friends a few doors up from us hadn't sold a single thing on Monday. Speaking of which, check them out, they have these neat pewter sculptures of dragons, fairies and stuff that are coming "through" mirrors or stained glass. Booth 631 "Through the Looking Glass." They also have some smaller cute animal figurines and incense burners in the shape of dragons. One has his paws covering his nose and the smoke comes out his butt. All original designs sculpted and cast by their own hands.

Brain dead for sure!! I don't know how many times we had to tell people, "hey you can't come and get a beer for yourself and your brother, sister, aunt, mother, husband, whatever!" two beers = two bodies.. and if we can't see em, then too bad... and no that doesn't mean you can come get a beer and then come back and get another one two seconds later... :P Lots of hand offs going on, and mean icky people... >:(
All in all, was still a fun weekend... A little too hot yesterday, but better that then rain!!
See ya all in a few days!!
It was definately quite the weekend. I don't know how many times my mug of water was drained monday, but I'm sure I killed a few jugs of water. Of coarse when you wander around street and run into cast members here and there and hand over your mug for them to drink. Tim (the guy in the trash can) would drain at least half of it in one gulp.
Tips were down 50% for me on Monday. I think everyone had an "off" day for sales, take, etc.
Hi Leyla, thanks for the compliments! Unfortunately we had to drive back to school for Jay to start his last term of college, so we wont be back this year. No matter how fast we drive, its always a nearly 10-hour drive back to canada, and food, gas, hotel etc makes it pricey to visit more than one weekend. We're tossing around a two-weekend visit next year, so we'll see what happens. Next year for sure I will say hi to you though. :) I also have time now to order and receive a R/F pin, so I will have that as well next year. :)

Ouch. Hopefully you all have better sales this year. I know we spent $400 at faire this year including food, drinks, tips for performers, shopping, etc, so we did our part!
Had a nice weekend! Thanx to those that toted me around and to Kate and the girl child for visiting Sat and Sun over our campfire.
Hoping you AZ folks made it home safely!!
Naween: I too noticed ur garb. Don't be so shy next time!!! And if ur into camping to lessen the cost of a visit, I like to stay at shakopeerv.com and can be found there most wkends if ya wanna join me!
see ya in 2 wks!!
Naween,
I remember last year when I was terrified to approach people and then decided that if they were nice on the forum, they must be nice in person, so I got over my fear and approached. I find having my R/F pin handy as I can just point to it and then point to someone else's and then introduce myself. I'm about as subtle as a punch to the gut though...
It was a crappy weekend sales wise. When people won't take free soap samples, something is wrong. Though one drunk college boy decided to eat six pieces (after being told they were soap and he'd be an idiot to eat them) and then promptly got sick in our neighbors plants. Yesterday was one of "those" days.
I only stopped by for a couple hours on Monday, but apparently the chocolate sales were down too. Hmm, wonder why everyone's sales were so bad? It must have been the heat.
I had a great weekend! Sure, it was hot, but I'm cold-blooded, I think, so as long as I stayed in the shade and drank lots of water, I was a-ok!
Brought the dog out on Monday just to check how much of a pain it would be to have him with me out there....and yup, it was a pain. Twice I had to pull turkey bones out of his mouth. It was fun having him there too, but I think for the rest of the season I'll save my $10 and leave him at home.

...I was at the mead booth at 10 am on sunday....and saw a group of you all standing in a circle....but I was shy and wasn't sure how to approach.....*sigh* next year I have to build some courage into my bodice.... :P
(We were the lord and lady in grey/black/white jacquard if you saw us).
I saw you both bunches this weekend, amazing costumes are hard to miss! I wish I'd known that you were interested in the group I would have grabbed you and brought you to meet people. Will you be out again this season?
I noticed your lovely garb as well. We don't mean to be intimidating! I understand, though. I'm super shy and it took me forever to approach the group. Hope to see you next year!
There was no one out really on Monday. Crowds were leaving at 2 pm. We ended up entertaining the booths around us because there was no one to hawk to.
We can't even blame it on the State Fair. Their Labor Day attendance was down 10,000 people from last year and down almost 40,000 from a record year in 2005
http://www.mnstatefair.org/pages/attendance.html
I'm blaming two things: the RNC and people not realizing that we are still around.
Thanks goody, looking forward to meeting you next year!
Campground looks fair enough, if our hotel in burnsville keeps going downhill we may look into that...though our tent is definitely not big enough to get dressed in (it barely fits Jay and I. :P).
Still surprised by how few people/sales there were. We definitely thought saturday had significantly less people than last year (definitely saw less noble playtrons), but thought it was purely cause there was no Rendevous. Guess even mundanes weren't around. I wonder why, though we did find the interstates to be quite busy, so alot of peeps must have gone out of town.
I didn't help to get this comment from a patron this weekend at MNRF about our
portable fabric games.
"$20? that seems a little steep for something printed on a napkin..."
It might be a good thing I didn't overhear it in person.
I think high gas prices also kept away a lot of "regulars" from the midwest who usually come up Labor Day weekend.
Sorry theferret, I have to shake my head slightly at the gas prices comment, in Canada the gas prices are almost $5/gallon! (We pay $1.30/Litre). We desperately wanted to fill our tanks again just before the border, but it was raining so hard we we're fearing tornado's were going to appear!

Oh, I don't disagree. We've been spoiled here for way too long but because of that, people are feeling the crunch suddenly and not realizing how easy it's been for us. Yes, other places (Europe) have better public transportation than we do but we've still been babied a lot.
I actually had a great weekend! Played so hard I'm beat to a pulp and am hoarse today.
Monday was way down in terms of tips, but we shattered our records at the stocks on Saturday...and beat it again on Sunday by another 20%! We even had a single $120 show on Sunday, which was another record shattered.
Vil tips, however, were just slightly below average.

I don't think people realize that your time is valuable and is factored into the cost of things out there. Nick lowered the price on his mugs a few bucks this year and people were still whining.
And duhhhhhhhh, you are trying to make a living!
Yeah, I hear similar comments from nearly every vendor, usually, the common "we don't need that kids, I can make that at home for you". Some people just don't get it.
On a happier note, it was a great weekend! (minus the choking dust). Glad to see everyone who made it out!
Suuuuure they can make it at home. ;D
Brian and I made it home fine...albeit once again very sad that weekend had to end.
As has always been true you all made our visit wonderful! We love you bunches :D
We had a such a good time!
Thank you all so much for making our visit so memorable.
Any time you guys from AZ come here, it's a memorable event.
attendance on Sat. was over 18,000 and Sun over 17,000-sorry don't know about Mon, but it felt really small by comparison. I think with the Olympics, the start of school snuck up on people, so they were likely getting ready for that.
Jessica and I made it home safely... (obviously as we were on the same plane as the marquis and julie). Wanted to say thank you to you all for such a wonderful time, it was so great to finally meet you all and put real faces to all the names. It just ended and I'm already waiting for next year.
The Earl and I were at the Bristol Renaissance festival for the last weekend. It was dusty, warm, and crowded there too. We managed nicely in our Noble garb, drank plenty of water, took our time getting from point A to point B.
Glad to hear everyone had a great time despite the lesser crowds.
With the RNC in St. Paul, the last weekend for Valley Fair, and the State Fair, that would cut into the MNRF tally for sure. The rest of September should fare better, we hope.
The Earl and I plan at least 2 days for festing in September.
Mojgan and I wanted to express our gratitude to our fine friends in Minnesota for such a wonderful faire weekend. We are missing it already, and anxiously awaiting to return. We never walked so much, laughed so much, or imbibed so much as we did on this trip. Huzzah, and hope to see many of you in AZ come spring time!

They said on the news today, that State Fair attendance was down.
Some of the bars/restaurants are not getting customers from the RNC. They showed lots of empty tables at lunch time. They also talked about vendors that paid $2,500.00 per booth space, at civic fest, near the RNC and were told they would get a crowd of 150,000 people, but no one was there. Anyone else see that? It was on channel 5. Here's the link.

Just like any other Dog and Pony Show they want you to jump at their convenience and if it dose not turn out like they want to bad so sad.
Had a great time Sunday 8/31. Perfect weather. Haven't tasted the Egyptian mead since last year. Mmmmm good.
Had a belt shortened that I bought last year and also picked up a new pouch. Been saving up for one. Both at Renaissance Leather. Here is a pic only I got black.

Going to try to go this Saturday also. Those 2 for 1 ticket deals really help things.
Here is my son playing in a sprinkler in front of one of the booths. He was sucking on one of those frozen oranges all day. It all ended up on his shirt. I had people coming up saying he must have been wounded in battle.

We all enjoyed having all of you down and are missing everyone already. See you in February.

So, if people were not at the State Fair, the RNC/events or MNRF, where were they? I think they stayed home. I hope we have better attendance this weekend, as the weather should be great.
If we don't have better sales soon, it will be "too bad, so sad" for a lot of people. When the vendors don't do well, they will leave and then who will pay $1,000 per cart and shop booth fees (some shops pay double) ? That's a lot of money to fund the show. It was the consensus that Labor Day was the worst sales day in many years, including festival friday.
We rocked it Saturday but monday was like pulling teeth - which I almost did!
It was even a slow day selling beer. That always feels weird.

I think everyone just stayed home on Monday. Probably due to the heat and back-to-school. Saturday and Sunday were super busy despite the hot weather, so I bet this weekend will be packed.
Although now they are saying Sunday will be wet... Shall we do the "NO RAIN" chant again? NO RAIN, NO RAIN, NO RAIN....

Totally!!! Felt very weird..... COLD BEER HERE!!!! ;D
Looks like the weather should be good for Sat, but now they are saying "rain likely" for Sun. Drizzle and showers are not so bad, just so we don't get another downpour.
Labor Day there were hardly any people at the drum jam, which I can see from my shop. That was weird too.
