I can't tell you all how many times I have found myself sitting in class when the teacher says something seemingly harmless that throws my totally ren fest corrupted mind into some warped and convoluted memory of omething funny that happened at faire and I have to spend the next few minutes trying not to be notices as I luagh under my breath like a lunatic in the cormer. I know this must happen to other people too... at least I hope it does... for my own sanity!
So share what silly little things out there in the real world never fail to remind you of faire?
To get the ball rolling I'll share my favorite one: I really like to snowboard up in breckenridge. There's this one parkinging lot kind of off the main street that is almost always empty, so naturally we almost always park there. On the route from said parking lot the the lift there is a resaurant with an outdoor firepit that has those fake logs and burns on liquid fuel. Well every time I walk by there I get a whiff of that fuel which triggers some insane flashback to all those hot parades that I spend walking behind wilsome the fire breather at faire. it's a littl pathetic that the small of lamp fuel can do that to me :D.
Now, what does it for you?
Today my friend Chas, who worked with me, went to subway with me, and he ordered his sandwich in a british accent, and I was explaining to him what subway was, like he was foreign. He was doing a very convincing performance, until he said tomato, lol and he over exaggerated it, and then almost started laughing. He he, I have lame stories too :D
It does ... many things remind me of faire ... and I STILL have faire-ish conversations and comments! ;D
I went and sat outside the main gate at faire for three days. Yep, that reminded me a little about faire. I saw bunnies, butterflies... it rained. Sometimes I would close my eyes and pretend I heard people asking for directions to the privy.

Kathleen,
I know exactly what you mean. I walk behind him in the Pittsburgh RF Parade and now my tiki torch has taken on a whole new persona.
Tinkle Bell, indeed.
Now that Halloween is just around the corner- my fall-back costume, in case I don't have time to come up with a new one since my house is kind of huge and difficult to move, will probably be something I wear to faire, which is a crazy thing that reminds me of faire.
you know just when i finally decided to get all garbed up for school on halloween ( i've never been brave enough to go all out until now, my senior year where i figure hey what can they possibly do to me) and I don't have school that day! i realize i should be excited about that but.... i'm not. maybe i'll just have to dress up a few days early :)
Whenever I see mulch... I get transported back to the faire....
Whenever I see or smell woodchips or anything on a stick...it reminds me.
Bees.

Bees.
Not just average bees, wasps.
More common and more annoying.
More prevalent in returning the memories of being bothered all summer
We had the yellow jackets, and these really freaky super-flies that looked like red bumblebees. Yich.
FREAK BEE!!!
That is what we called them at my shop!
Ahh you had them too. Weren't they weird? I guess they're actually some sort of fly, and harmless I guess. But they're still gross.
I still call it freak bee...... :D
You need a chicken grill to smoke them out! Speaking of which- grilled chicken reminds me of faire, some how...
DUST in the air
Seeing a cooked turkey leg for sale at the grocery store. Smelling someone's smokey bbq pit in the neighborhood reminds me of drum circle around the fire (Texas faires.) Anything with glitter reminds me to perform maintenance on my fairy swatter.
Anytime I sell someone with a fireplace lit or cooking out on a grill, it reminds me of fair and TRF drum circle....
Every time I go into my room and see my sword or crown or armour sitting there, it reminds me of fair.
Whenever I hear bells jingling, it reminds me of gypsies and my gypsy garb.
If I see fairy dust or anything that sparkles, it reminds me of fairies at ren fair...
This thread.
T'anks for posting.
It's all about the boots.
I'm almost constantly wearing my ren boots to work and in public. Once in a while, at the shop or shopping, I get stopped and someone says, did you get those from the corf?
As for the wood smoke...sorry, that's usually a reminder that winter's coming to me. :)
My homefaires are mostly held in the cooler months of Spring and Fall. When the temp drops into the sixties and the mornings are crisp and cool I think of faire. I want to dance in the woods!!
