For the past couple of weeks I have been experiencing pain and discomfort in my lower back. It escalated to the point last Friday when I had to go to the ER. I ended up missing the entire weekend at MNRF :'( .
Yesterday I saw a back specialist and I was diagnosed as having a herniated/ruptured disk that was inflaming the sciatic nerve into my left leg.
From anyone that has heard of people having it, I get positive feedback that they recover in full through physical therapy and meds. Which is the path my doctor has set me upon.
But I would still like to request prayer/good wishes/positive energy/candles from those that would.

Ouch, man I know what that sciatic nerve can do to you. Do yourself a favor and make sure to get that therapy and do all you are told by the docs. This condition can be fixed.

I had very fotunate luck with the back specialist I was referred to. He was great. The place that I have been referred to for Physical Therapy also specializes in Personal Training and Eastern Medicine (acupuncture, chinese herbology..etc). I have my first appointment next wednesday.
Aside from playing a ton of sports and being an exercise fanatic, I have had four previous surgeries in other areas of my body and know the value of following doctor's orders as well as those of physical therapists. I didn't do homework in school, but when it comes to my body & health, I do my homework!

Hang in there Rafe. Back pain is no fun , but id you find yourself a decent physical therapist they can do wonders.
I go to a physical therapist for my back to help strengthen it after the surgery i had this spring and it really helps.
My therapist recommended that i pick up the following book to read.
" 7 steps to a pian free life - how to raidly relieve back and neck pain " By Robin McKenzie.
They are very simple pain free basic exercises in the book, and boy have they help with some of my back pain.
Thank you all again. Just an update, I am doing very well. Almost walking without any sign of a limp, but taking it slow and easy. Not going to rush anything. Besides, it is most likely due to the steroidal anti-inflamatory drug they have me on. I will be out at the MNRF this weekend....we will see how it goes.
Physical therapy starts next thursday.

Stay strong and hang in there Rafe.Your right back pain is no fun but like everyone else has said take it easy and do everything those doctors tell you my friend.Hope you feel better and I will say a prayer for you and send some positive energy your way.
