The run of the Michigan Renaissance Festival has been extended one weekend. See the main site for details.
Hello Margaret and anyone else reading this post,
As a vendor at the Michigan Faire, I can tell you that this is the first we have heard of this. We did check the website and did verify what is being said.
So, I wonder now if there are any other vendors who have read this that were aware of the extra weekend or has agreed to it? We are scrambling now to see if we can get someone to work it as our regular workers all have prior commitments.
This extra weekend was not in the contracts so I wonder how many people will actually stay. What about all the acts? Will they stay too?
Thanks for the head's up. If not for this forum, we would have had no idea about the change! ???
Lady Kelly
What do you sell Kelly? And what kind of help would you need?
Jon.
Pretty sure everyone knows about it now. It was announced a lot during the weekend and they are offering patrons 2 for 1 tickets. Which is nice.
Two for one? That sounds good. Maybe I can get a bunch of other people to go with us on the last weekend.
Jon.
That would be fun and I'll be there. Doing my bit to keep mankind in 1569, where it belongs.
Wow, I wonder how many crafters need to pack up and leave for other shows?
Has attendance been that bad -or that good?
from what i have gathered it was added due to the 13th and 14th being basically rained out.
It's to make up for the Monsoon like conditions in the mud river, that was formerly known as, The Holly Grove Site. It's drying out now, much less squish and it should be a fun weekend. It's going to be different, but different is wonderful and I'll be there, so it's a party. It's always a party with me ;D
Barb and I will be there the very last Sunday for sure, but most likely not Saturday due to me working.

Is it the rain, or the movie that is supposed to be using MIRF as a location?

How did the extra weekend go?
They had about 4 or 5000 through the gates as I was told.Saturday was cold ,the furry hat vendor did great, sunday was just one of the best days of faire sunny and 60, at times you looked around and all you saw was people in garb making it look like some rennaissance trading town with people from all walks of life and countries.I hope next year the weather is the same.Great day to mingle with friends and to walk around shop and not have to elbow your way through crowds.

So lots of "playtrons" in costume compared to un-costumed patrons??
Were there booths that were closed due to other commitments?
Early on Sunday it was hard to find a mundane or it seemed like that to me. Most of the vendors were open.Though there were a few differant acts but that was okay since we go every weekend it made for a change.
What acts?
And were there some booths that only had people in it, no product?
not sure.. some guy that played with firea dn walked in it.. and then some dancer people with drummish things at manolete/zuccini bros stage.. as for boths.. from what i saw they alll had at least something, even if not full selection.. or were gone.. only a few were gone though.
It was announced and official now, according to management, we are going to eight weekends from now on. The acts were different. I saw two closed vendors. They brought in acts from Florida and it was an interesting and fun weekend. I even managed to talk some insane people into the grape stomp.
Saturday was cold. I played the end song for the first time and my fingers did not want to work, but Sunday was much warmer. The queen was first through the gates ever and it was a great bit of laughter. The best part was all of the women in cast planning to rush Norfolk for the Pavand (sp).
There was a very handsome young man who danced with me and managed to dance with the queen. Okay, he's my son, but he did a great job and I'm so proud of him. It was a fun weekend.
I'm glad I was there. There were some mundanes, but it was only advertised for a couple of weeks. Next year I'm sure the Fall Harvest Festival will be a nice change from 94 degree heat and 100% humidity.
Nancy, who always looks on the bright side.
The Pub sing was awesome on Sunday. Three Pirate Lords dancing with the Queen (The Dutchman, Admiral Morgan and Graybeard), me and Graybeard dancing (did anyone get a picture of that? if so please post!) and an emotional goodbye speech from her Majesty (Caroline, we'll miss you so much over the winter)!! To all our Rennie friends, especially who won't be invading Ohio or attending the Mid-Michigan Faire or the Masque, safe travels and a safe and prosperous new year to you and yours and we'll see you in 10 long months!! To those that we will see again soon, we will be blessed to say these words in person. We love you all and thanks for another GREAT year at Faire.
Three cheers for her Majesty Queen Elizabeth Glorianna!!!
Hip Hip Huzzah!, Hip Hip Huzzah!!, Hip Hip Huzzah!!!

Is this still the case? Or is it just that the show is shifted back a weekend so it over-laps October? The MAF website says "August 22nd through October 4th, 2009" http://www.renaissancefest.com/
(Or did I count the weekends wrong?)
MiRF has traditionally run 8-weekends from mid of August to the last weekend of September but since this year they were filming a movie and one weekend was rained out, they extended it to the first weekend of October to accomodate filming. After doing so, they realized that the first weekend in October is open on the schedules of most acts/vendors, so they decided to make the extra weekend an annual affair and the 2009 schedule is now 9 weekends, and includes the first weekend in October.
Okay, maybe they just haven't adjusted the dates on the entry main page of the MAF website http://renaissancefest.com/ to include an extra weekend. The "August 22nd through October 4th, 2009" listing there still looks like 7 weekends when I count them on my calendar.
Running into October may be a bigger problem for us here at MNRF. Two of our popular stage acts also do the Carolina show which starts the first weekend of October, and close to 24 crafters who leave for either there, or TRF. Sounds like they shifted MNRF back so we would have 4 weekends after Labor Day in stead of just three since it's always busier after the holiday weekend. MNRF has traditionally always ended the last weekend of September.
And MIRF and MNRF have always run concurrently -- a money saving measure, if I remember from my office grunt days.
I was kind of mystified that I hadn't yet seen or heard any rumblings of MNRF running an extra week yet. maybe it's still in the works? Who knows with MAF.
Though I think it would be wise to take that extra week onto the FRONT of the run, so at 7PM, the poor patrons aren't trying to find the exit in the dark on that last weekend.
But again...who knows with MAF. :D
I heard directly from our craft coordinator at MNRF that there was no plan to add an extra weekend to MNRF.

MiRf runs 7 weekends now and from what I've been hearing another weekend will be added making it 8 weekends, this year was a truly a weird run seeing as we have been attending MiRf for over 20 years and have seen many evolving scenarios.
The official word from our entertainment director is that from here on out, we'll run 8 weekends, the extra added on to the end (so it'll be like this season, from now on.)
Now, things do change, so this may be decided otherwise in the interim before next year, but that seems to be the plan.
As for this year, the official explanation was that due to the massive rain-out, we were going to attempt to recoup some of our costs. I don't know if the movie was a consideration in extending the run, though it's certainly possible that they wanted another day of crowds to film.
cool.. and welcoem toe the forums aaron
Cryon - that act the was drummers and dancers is called nomoboganta(sp) I spelled it the way they pronounce it..... they used to be a regular stage show, I am sorry I had to miss seeing them again..... they were great!!!
WOW! That's great to know. As it is, I can only ever get enough time off during MiRF's normal run to make one weekend. October is definitely do-able!!
When I originally posted I had a brain fart moment. I meant to say traditionally 7 and now 8, oops! My bad!
I wonder how the extra weekend will affect the Mid Michigan faire?
This year it didn't because Mid-Michigan didn't start until one week after the extra MiRF weekend. Hopefully there won't be a conflict. Barb and I are going to try to make the last weekend of Mid-Mich, as opening weekend we were both sick, and this weekend we're going to Ohio.
We'll be in Ohio this weekend, Kate can't make the next weekend but maybe I'll take a trip up to MMRF by myself.
There is some carry over with cast between MiRF and MMRF. The last weekend of MiRF is going to be media day for MMRF and final rehearsal. So, for the characters it may mean missing last weekend at MiRF, but there are only a couple who are in that position right now.
Other than that, not much. I have no problem visiting as many faires as possible. Addiction anyone?
I don't know about Faire addiction, but I know I'm jonesing for a Pub Sing about now, so I guess that would count. ;D
Luckily I have Kevin Tyler's CD to tide me over!

I think they're officially spelled Nomobugente.
That is awesome! I know my wife got a little ren fested out toward the end this year but not me. I won't know what to do with 12 straight weeks of ren fest between MiRF and MMRF! I can't wait!
You're forgetting a few Black Armor. Add in two from Mayfaire, two (?) from charlevoix, two from Derbyshire, and five from silverleaf, that's 23 weeks of faire.
Charlevoix is too far of a drive for me and I was not in love with Derbyshire. I tried to be, but it's got a ways to go before I haul across the state for it again. I will hit Bristol sometime next season. I really used to enjoy Bristol. I like Silverleaf a great deal, I was there the first year and they've really come a long way.

Charlevoix was a one time deal. Not to be repeated. SO axe that one.
LDW
Right, so, still 21 weekends of faire, I believe.
C'mon people! We've still got four weekends in april, two in may and june to fill, we can do it, I know we can!
Okay, seriously? That's a joke. I think I'd die. Or my wife would kill me.
lol so whens the party at your place mitch?
Don't forget Great Lakes, and Kentucky Highland faires. We will make both this year and if luck holds TRF for 2 weekends! plus Frankenfeast and an early Castleteer party will hopefully be held.
There can never be enough reasons to make garb and have bling-a-bility. Something Serena does not have. So I need to take out my bling-ness on other poor faires.

I wouldn't mind trying to make it to some of those ones but MiRF and MMRF are both pretty close to where I live; MiRF is about 25 minutes from home and just a couple of miles from my work and MMRF is about 40 minutes from home. I'm pretty lucky that I don't have to drive very far like some people do.
Battlemonk - Thanks for the correct spelling..... I even have the DVD/CD but was to lazy to go find it to get the spelling right....giggle...... hey you guys making chili again? Can i get the recipes.....minus the extra heat......giggle.... my tummy is such a griper....hehehhee
Sealclubber - Dont forget the Celtic festivals.....and the SCA events....
I generally ignore the sca events. Anywhere where I can't wear my rubber duck is not a faire to me,.

Derbyshire does need to grow a bit yet (I think they are three years old?) but it's nice for me to have a fair that is 30 minutes from home. At the moment I am having a hard time convincing myself that attending MMRF is going to be worth a 3 hour drive and overnight hotel expense. I guess the shopping in Frankenmuth and Birch Run will make that worthwhile! LOL

I grew up in Grand Haven, so I'm going to audition for a singing spot at Derbyshire next year, if I can figure out how.

Speaking of other Michigan events, anyone been to the Kalamazoo Living History Show in March? http://www.kalamazooshow.com/
It's primarily Colonial through Civil War merchants, but it can be worth checking out for cross-over items that fit more than one era.
