Isn't the 18th the Pub Crawl, too?  Is there going to be time for both?
Title: Re: Mead run
Post by: Muffin on October 07, 2008, 12:55:29 PM
Yes that's the same day as the Pub Crawl.. I think it will be one or the other though.. The Zombie Pub Crawl starts at around 3:00...

Post by: Lady Figaro on October 07, 2008, 01:18:21 PM
We can do the mead run, but I think that we have to back out of the zombie pub crawl.  Finances are a little tight at the moment.

Why must you people always do a mead run when I have Avalon.  She is getting too old to take with me like last year.

I've never been on a mead run with you guys before. What does it entail? Can I bring Laurel? Would we make it back in time for the Dregs CD release party? Is Joy going to be there?  ??? ???

This is only the second one...
Bring containers to put as much mead as you want to buy in.
Sure, someone needs to drive us home.
And yes we will be back in time.

We met last year and then car pooled up there....

I can be a DD. How does he charge by quart or gallon and how much is it that will help me decide on how many containers to bring.

Gallons run $25-$35.  Lesser volumes prorated, IIRC.

We have some Litre bottles for ~$8.

No word if Joy will be there, but I will not that day.

Dan and I would love to go with you guys too, but we have Hannah that day until 12 and so we wouldn't be able to go until around 12:30... bummer, I keep missing mead runs.

Maybe I will just have to pay someone to pick it up for me again  ;D

OK I have four seats spoken for. If jenn decideds not to go then I will have two more open seats, if she goes we can take one more. Right now she is not really wanting to go. Anyone find out where we are leaving from and what time. i never went last year so I dont know. It takes about an hour from Anoka. What time do they open?
Title: Re: Mead run
Post by: DeadBishop on October 09, 2008, 07:18:31 PM
Their doors are open from 10am-4pm I believe.  For the caravan we met up in the Target parking lot off of 694 and Hwy 65.  Takes about an hour to get there.  Ideally the best plan would be to meet up and head out no later than 8:45-9am so we can get there about 10am.  Plenty of time to hang out for awhile to "sample" everything, sober up, and head back out.   ;D

how well does this stuff store? I have two large containers that Im just going to put corks in them, is that good enough? Or do I really have to store them on those brown bottles witht he locking lids? I suppose I can either get more bottles or drink a lot of loki....hmmmmm what to do, what to do?  ???   ???   ???   ::)   ::)   ::)
Title: Re: Mead run
Post by: Noble Dreg on October 11, 2008, 12:36:53 PM
Last years batch did not keep particularly well for me...It got kind of "fizzy".  A couple of corks darn near blew across the room when I opened them with a "blade" opener.  All the more reason for me to make an early New-Years resolution...

I, Noble Dreg, on this 11th day of October here do by swear any mead I purchase this Fall will not survive to see the New-Year!
Title: Re: Mead run

Fig went through his so fast last year that we didn't have to worry about storing it.   ;D  We'll have to figure out a way to make sure it stays good through the move this year!

As I thought I have to close Fri night....
Title: Re: Mead run
Post by: William_MacKean on October 13, 2008, 10:29:39 AM
Most product sold from this point forward is run thru a flash pasturizer.  It kills off the yeast once and for all.  We have also noticed that it pulls a little more of the base flavor out so the product has more taste.  Still, it is reccommended to store it in lower than 70 degree area.  I store in my 65 degree basement and fridge.  No problems.

Also:
My Saturday plans fell thru.  I'll be there this weekend!

When I left last week, we still had plenty of Sting.  It's super tasty, too!  That's not the news.

Latest on the Bloody is we'll be openning the cask this week sometime.  Not sure if it'll be available or not.  That's not the news, either.

Looking forward to serving you all this weekend!  Nifty, but still not news.

I hope to have good news this weekend!

No.. I could still go.. but the thing of it is... I don't drink mead.. *ducks and runs for cover* I love the stuff, but it doesn't love me back...  :'(

Now going for the social fun part would be great, but since I do have a mountain of things to do at home, its probably best I take care of that stuff instead.... *sigh*

Have fun everyone!!!!

Okay, so just to clarify for everyone, you need to be at the Target on Hwy 65 and 694 by 9am, which is our departure time.  From there, we will carpool/caravan up to J Bird Wines, and be back in the cities that afternoon.

Went to Jbird on Sat with a friend and 2 year old toddler who had a great time checking out the farm.

Filled 11 wine bottles I have been saving with Egyptian, Sting and The Mead. Picked up some honey too. My friend bought a plastic gallon jug full of Egyptian and one wine bottle of Cherry.

Was a great experience. Everyone was very nice.

Was at a party this weekend at Doc Marcus' and he had much mead.  I drank some Bloody and was ecstatic.  If I had money right now, I would go up and get some too.  Mmmmm...bloody...my favorite!

We're supposed to go up north for deer hunting this weekend.  As of right now I'm planning on driving down from the Pine River area on Saturday morning, with my mom in tow.

(We took Grandma to fest this year...her first time since the early 80's.  She had a blast, can't wait for next year.)

Make sure he will be open, thats a long haul from Pine River and back. Dont bring any mead into the tree stand with you though, it'll either be a difficult or very fast trip down!

He'll be open.

I'll be there.

I have family in Breezy Point, but they're all at the U of MN hospital with my mother.  Brain aneurysms are the suck.

I never got either one of those kinds. But I heard all about em. By the time I got over to try the rhubarb it was gone.
