Title: Faire purchases for non-Rennies
Post by: cowgrrl on October 13, 2008, 11:20:22 PM
What do you buy at Faire for the non-Rennies in your life?  We've found music to be a great introduction to Faire & have bought lots of Cast in Bronze CDs for various family members.  We've also bought Lady McArthurs Fiery Fare, handmade jewelry & some metal roses to give.

So, favorite Faire-related gifts?

I generally buy hand-made craft items(blankets, boxes, knic-knacs), CDs or scented products.

In general I find my purchases for non faire folk fall into two groups-

First is unique and intersting things.  Leather roses, interesting hats, art work, stained glass, incense, ect....

Second would be more of the gift shop type things.  Shirts, ceramic mugs, shot glasses ect...

So far mostly music, but also metalwork, both can be pretty versatile gifts

What about glass blown things or the Iron works to hang on a wall, like the wine holders I've seen...

Personally CD's and jewelry are near the top of my list, but I like only the handmade things and unique items!

I agree! I purchased the iron vine wine holders from the blacksmith for my folks one year. It is so unique and sturdy, they loved it! The next year I purchased smaller vines that held the glasses and can hang on the same vine. Faire usually sells unique wines, or even meade, so that's an option for year #3! And of course wine glasses/goblets from the glassblower can be gifts for other years to complete the faire vine.

Christmas ornaments from any shoppe will remind them of you every year. Personally, I have so much stuff that if I receive anything that needs to find a shelf, I simply don't have the room to put it, so an ornament would be perfect and remain special for years to come. Also, I now have solar windows, which means my faire-bought sun catchers are no more than an obstacle when I need to open the windows. Keep your gift-receivers home in mind before you purchase something.

I think everything besides garb related items. Unless there is someone who wants or would like something like that. I know that the weapons go over well as a gift too. It really depends on the person, but everything handmade or something you can not get anywhere else. (repeated I know)

Last year I purchased a plate from the glass etcher of our family tree and gave it to my mother.  On my brother's side were blank spaces in the leaves for any future grandchildren (my side is all filled up *lol*).  My mom cried - bonus points!

I don't have non-rennie friends.  Everyone gets indoctrinated eventually. ;D
