Well, the time has come and we finally know our departure date. We'll be leaving for Arizona on Sunday, November 9th. We've got our moving trailer scheduled to arrive Thursday morning (11/6). We're looking for any helpers to help us load the trailer for any time you can spare between Thursday afternoon to Saturday evening. We'll supply beer and food for your troubles (I'm sure we'll have some mead, too!!!)! ::) Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated by both John and I.
Although we are both very sad to be leaving all of you, we are excited for our new adventure. And don't worry - since we still have family here, we'll be back to visit!!
Don't forget, we're having our going away party on Saturday night (11/1/08) at the bar and we hope to see you there.
One question.....I see beer and maybe mead. ;D What about rum??? ;)
I shall be there to help... I'm thinking probably Friday night if I can swing it, and Saturday.. :)

I has muscle... ;D
Actually I am freakishly strong "for a girl"...
Just ask Bacardi about trying to unscrew the top to my coffee mug, or anything that I have screwed shut for that matter.. hee hee!! :D

Hey - we've got to have a hobby! ;D
Bumping this up. I know you get the truck today...are you planning to load it all tonight or will there be anything left that you need help with Friday night? Toar and I would be available to come down tomorrow...just need you to PM me with directions and/or an address for MapQuest plz. :)
We'll take all help! We're going to try to do as much as possible today. So, I'll post tonight and let everyone know how it went and when and if we'll need help tomorrow.
Thanks to all of you! We're going to miss everyone!
Know that I am there in spirit and petitions to the PTB for easy packing and safe journeys will continue until we hear that you are safely there and unloaded. Love you both!
Thank you soooo much Esc, we love you too.
We're not 100% sure on who all is coming in the morning right now. But a few people are supposed to come over around 9AM. We got a small chunk of stuff loaded later this evening, I wasn't able to do as much as I used too by myself. But my brother in law and family got here around 5 and loaded some heavy stuff, we do still have a good bit of stuff left to go yet. We won't have internet later in the day, so anyone looking to help, feel free to give either the wife or myself a call if your able to help later in the day. I'd hate to have you show up and find out it's a done deal.
I don't have either of your numbers! How'd that happen?!?!?! My bad.
Check your messages...I'll PM you both my phone number so that you can call and let us know if you need Toar and I tonight. We have to take the puppy into the vet at 5:30 so we wouldn't be able to get there until probably after 7 PM or so but whatever we can help with we are more than happy to.
Synn, I have numbers if you don't hear back from the Fig's.. ;D
I work until 5:00 today and then need to run home, change clothes and then I can head over...
I will call or message the lovely Lady Fig and see where you guys are at.... The man has to work, so it will just be me.. :-*
Thanks Muffin. I guess Toar has Fig's number but I might call you later to find out what's what. Depending on when we're done at the vet, if you haven't left yet mayhap we can pick you up. :-*
Sounds good!! ;D
Well...
It looks like Minnesota isn't going to let you escape with a proper snowy Minnesota send off!!!....
You guys getting snow? It has hit Manitoba already, and I heard we are in for it this weekend. Lord, was hoping it would hold off a while longer!
The Fig's have started their journey south.... They got on the road and were just north of Mankato at about 8:15 last night...
Let's try to keep everyone updated if we all hear from them so we know that they are making their way safe and sound... :-*
Hi All,
Yes, last night was not fun with the blowing snow south of Mankato...but, it wasn't too bad. We stopped Friday night in Sioux City, IA. We took it easy driving today and are in Emporia, KS tonight. We figure that we're going to take advantage of this and see sights along the way. There is an Aircraft museum that Fig wants to visit tomorrow, so we're going to do that.
Things with the dogs and the car are going great and we've had no issues so far (quick - someone knock on wood!!).
I must say, it was VERY weird not going to the bar last night to do karaoke...since we've been there for 6 years, but it was also kind of nice! :D
We'll sign on again probably tomorrow night to update our travels!
Glad you two are taking your time and having some fun along the way!!!!!
I miss you both already!!! :-*

Which route are you guys taking Lady Fig? If you end up going through Colorado, The Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs is probably another place Fig would really enjoy seeing.
We were going to stop in Colorado on the way to Arizona, but there are snow and rain storms expected on Sunday and Monday. We didn't want to take the chance of the pass south of Colorado Springs being closed, so we're going straight to Arizona. We're take 80 West to Arizona. We should be west of Amarillo by tomorrow night - depending on how long Fig spends at the museum! ::)

Ya, I kinda figured that when you said you were in Kansas. I have an uncle and aunt in New Mexico and my family has driven down there several times over the years to see them. The "north" route goes through Nebraska and Colorado, and that's the route we took in the summer. The "south" route basically takes I-35 all the way to I-40 and that was the route we took in late fall and winter months for just the purpose you mentioned. You don't want to get caught in Colorado by the Rockies when a winter storm rumbles through.
I hated that south route, Boring as all heck!...
We're on the southern route, but we are veering off it to go to the museum tomorrow. It's the The Mid-America Air Museum in Liberal, KS. From the write up in the AAA book it sounds like it should be pretty cool. We're taking it easy on the drive though. There isn't a rush to get into Arizona yet, seeing as how going to Colorado is out due to weather. But we're looking at the trip right now as a kind of vacation. The dogs are just chilling out on the ride. I was worried about if they were going to handle the long ride. But so far so good. Tonight we called it an early day and stopped at a hotel in Emporia Kansas. Still a little cooler weather wise than we were hoping for, but we're heading south, so it'll get better soon enough. Well we'll chat at cha laters, with an on the road update.
I've been stuck in Colorado due to a snowstorm closing the pass...NOT fun! Especially when everyone else is scrambling for rooms, too. :o :o
Enjoy the museum! Glad you were able to take off when you wanted to. Continued safe travels to you!!!
Good to hear that things are going well so far.
May the wind be always at your back, my friends.
MG
Drive/Travel safely my dears.
Thanks, Kate!
Well, we made it Liberal, KS today and tomorrow morning we hit the Air museum that Fig wants to see. Then we'll be on our way to the next town. :)

Perhaps...
"Amarillo by Morning"?..
Sorry...I couldn't resist!..LoL
I was saying the exact same thing Stormy LOL. We checked into the hotel and had dinner, and was surprised to find out we could smoke inside the place. That was a shocker. As far as we knew Kansas has the same law MN does, but maybe they don't enforce it way out here? We drove through one town that you could tell was rebuilding from a tornado. The thing must have hit in dead center of the town, cuz it was wasted.
It's strage driving through the state though. The highway we took is a little off the beaten path. You can drive for miles of nothing, then poof, you drive through a town with nothing but flat lands around it. Maybe it's just me, but it just looks weird.
We should have no surprises tomorrow morning! We should we should have more info in the morning
` ;D
Just a quick update - we made it to Albuquerque tonight. Going to check out a couple of things tomorrow morning and then we're going to head for Sedona. So far, everything is going great!
You forgot to mention that bunch of tumble weeds rolling across the road like a heard of cats on route 54 in Texas.
I got some great pics of the air museum for you ND. I think of all, you'll like them the most. Won't be for a little while though. Once we're all set up in the new place.
Dreg is not the only one that wants to see plane pictures. :o >:(
Glad to hear the trip is going good. ;D

Oooooohhhh Sedona is sooooo pretty!!!! Take lots of pictures!!!!
Safe travels my friends!! :-*
(it's snowing here, and they are saying ice and crap later... boooooo!!! AND its only going to be in the 20's this weekend.. ack!! you made your get a way just in time!!!)
I heard about the snow and I'm glad we got out! ;D It's about 50 degrees down here and sunny. I will be sure to take lots of pictures of Sedona. We got a lot of pretty ones from the drive through New Mexico.
Drive safely!!!
Well, time for my little update to the drive so far. We started the day off checking out old town Albuquerque, and picked up this cool painting by a local artist. Tonight we are in Flagstaff, since every hotel in Sedona doesn't allow smoking. We'll be heading down to Sedona to check it out tomorrow, then up to the Grand Canyon probably.
Most of the pictures I have are of WW2 aircraft. Only a few jets and other odd aircraft. They had a B-24 hanging from the cealing. It looked a little small to me. But they said it was a real one. I thought it would have been closer to the size of a B17, and this one was no where near it.
The drive was cool, I remember first seeing this mountain in the way off distance thinking, crap there's white stuff up there. There's a little of it here on the ground. But I'm ignoring it. The link bellow is to a pic of the thing behind the city itself. It might even be near where we are staying? It's beautiful to look at. But it's to high up for my liking.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/76/Flagstaff_AZ_USA_315_8.JPG
I will say however, I'm getting tired of driving up a hill. But seeing as how Kingman is at 3,333 ft and Flagstaff is at 6,910 ft. I'm looking forward to going downward when we head that way. I think the car is getting tired of it too. After driving several hours, it doesn't hold the speed as well going upwards. Maybe we'll also save on gas too. We can coast a little instead of fighting the climb?
Oh and no I'm not up early. Ain't it great to get insomnia, after driving all day..........nooooot!!!!!!!!!!
Honey we're hoooooome. We got into Kingman today and it is so awesomely warm. Went to the Grand Canyon and found another aircraft museum. It was even better. I got to walk through General Douglas MacArthus Citation aircraft. Got some great pics of it too. I hope to have them up in the next few weeks, once we're settled in.
Glad to hear you've arrived! Put up your feet and crack one open...ahhhhhhhhh! Hugs to both of you!! ;D
Yay for making it! Now take a day off for just walking around and marveling at semi-warmth. Be careful with the unloading and patient with each other. Love you both, lots!
So glad you have arrived safely!!!! and I am SO jealous that you are enjoying the fabulous AZ weather without me!!! *pout* No Fair!!!
See you kids soon!!!
Miss you!
xoxoxo
:-*
So, presumably you will be regular denizens of the AZRF in February? Perhaps we'll see you the next time we make it in . . .
Glad you guys made it safely. Am extremely jealous to hear about the warm weather as I sit here with the wind howling and snow coming down!
So glad to hear that you two arrived safely!! Envious about the weather there...(still have no heat) :'( Thanks for the space heater!!! It's working wonderfully!!! :)
Miss you both very much!!
Luv and hugs!!!
We went around town with Brandi's dad today and checked the town out. Brandi found a dog park just down the road from the hotel and the dogs had fun there. Maddie especially, it seems shes now got two new boyfriends already (the hussy). I found a karaoke bar and we're going to go check it out tomorrow. So far it's the only one I've found in this town. Maybe I'll be lucky to promote myself around the place and get some gigs of my own.
Was warm enough today, I got me some good kilt wearing out of it. Only a few odd stares, but not so bad. Probably won't wear it to the bar tomorrow night though. I don't want to send these new people here into to much shock yet. Soon enough for that later. Looks like we won't be able to move into the new place till the 19th at the earliest. So we're stuck in the hotel till all is ready for the move in. Brandi's dad is getting some help from the local college when the time comes. We're deffinately looking forward to getting things set up and in place though.
Miss you guys lots though, wish you were all here instead of there. And yes Escher, we will deffinately be doing the AZRF for sure. Proabably won't be able to do it as often as we did the MNRF, but at least a few weekends.
Glad to hear you guys made it safe and sound.
Sounds like Maddie is taking the move really well!..LoL
Kinda sux having to spend more nights in a hotel. You must be looking forward to getting a nights sleep in your bed again!
Yeah it does kind of suck, but it's getting closer to move in day. That's what I keep telling myself, plus it gives us time to check out the town and surrounding area.
We drove around yesterday through a town called Oatman. It was a bit of a surprise to see wild burrows walking around town. I mean right through town too. There was even a baby one with mommy. We got a few pics of it. Today we went to Laughlin and did a little gambling at a few of the casinos there. Then got back and took the dogs to the dog park to run around. We went to a karaoke show last night and had some fun with that. Met some real nice people there. Temps today was 71 with an even warmer day expected tomorrow. It does drop pretty quick at night though. That's the desert for you though.
I'm so glad you guys are enjoying yourself in AZ!!! Lucky Ducks!!!
Miss you big time!!

John downloaded the pics from the camera today. We should get them posted soon!
Photobucket seems to be loading real slowly so it may take me a little while to get them all up. We have a little over 300 pictures, and the buckets bulk loader does seem to work for me.

Okay - here are our pictures!! Hopefully the links will work - otherwise, just cut and paste.
Air Museums - http://s243.photobucket.com/albums/ff45/Drawkcab01/Air%20Museums/
Sedona - http://s243.photobucket.com/albums/ff45/Drawkcab01/Sedona/
Grand Canyon - http://s243.photobucket.com/albums/ff45/Drawkcab01/Grand%20Canyon/
The last picture in the Grand Canyon pictures is from the Air museum just outside the Grand Canyon. If memory serves it's of a Japanese Zero that was found out on a pacific island pretty banged up as you can tell.
Those pics from the airplane museum are something! Seems like a really cool place to visit! I didn't realize it was that big and had that many planes! I bet you spent the entire day there!
Not really, though it would have been possible. The one in Kansas was bigger, but both were pretty cool. But since we had to get on the road it was a kinda run through to look and see everything. Besides Brandi doesn't get into the whole aircraft thing like I do.
ooooo, airplanes . . .
when you going to PIMA (http://www.pimaair.org/)?
and, for more fun, the boneyard next door . . .

I don't think they let you drive though it anymore (I haven't been there for 30 years).
Hey, I am a dumb girl and all. Is the Iron Maiden a B-17?

Hey, I am a dumb girl and all. Is the Iron Maiden a B-17?
The B-17 is the "Flying Fortress".
I have never heard of a plane being nicknamed the Iron Maiden before. If there was one, it probably wasn't a very good plane!
There wasn't any aircraft nick named the Iron Maiden, as far as I know Kate. Storm is correct, the B17 was called a Flying Fortress, or by some a B.U.F.F. short for Big Ugly F-ing Flying craft. The only thing I've been able to find involving Iron Maiden and an aircraft is the Boeing 757 they bought.
B-52's were also called BUFFs by their crews.
I think pretty much all heavy bombers were called BUFFs. But from what I had read, it was the B-17 that was the first plane called a buff and it took off from there.
