Alas, the sad time of year has come again and we must close our lovely PARF.
So who all is going to join us for closing weekend?
Sir O and I will definitely be there both days - although we will have to leave before closing on Sunday so we get home at a decent hour. Getting up for work at 4 am doesn't give you much leeway on Sundays. :(
As you know we'll be there. But we are watching the weather there, they are saying rain.I sure will pray to the rain GODS to hold off. Can't wait to see you and Sir O at your shire.I think I want to be a FAIRE GROUPIE. :D
My husband, son and i plan to be there for closing day on Sunday, so my husband and i can celebrate our 10'th wedding anniversary. Right now we are also watching the weather very closely. Saturday looks very wet, but Sunday has potential yet. well atleast it is not snow, although they say we may get some of the white stuff here tonight !
I also know that Master James and his wife are suppose to be there on Sunday, for I have already made plans to met up with them.
We do hope to go, but if the weather is bad, then it will be a no :(
Hopefully the rain gods will back off!
Saturday for us!
Well - I'm hoping they will change the weather report between now and then. Beings this part of the country has fickle weather, the norm is that the forecast changes several times - sometimes in the same day!
But I too am praying for either the rain to pass through quickly so it's done by Saturday morning - or that it holds off until Monday :)
the weather for cast right now is for 100% rain, and thunderstoms with possible strong gusty winds on Saturday.
Sunday is suppose to be 80% chance of rain in the morning , then a chance of a lingering shower in the afternoon.
Yuck. Oh well, not much you can do about the weather this time of year !
If we do go, watching weather closely, it looks like i will not be wearing the good velvet gown on Sunday ! I think i will wear my other gown that can get wet. Plus i have a cloak i can wear over it. My husband and son's garb can not get wet so they will be going in civilan clothes. ( one of these days i have to get them rain cloaks.)
Yeah - well as far as the weather goes - there's nothing we can do about that. But truly - I'm not going to start worrying about it until Friday night/Saturday morning. If I have to wear my "junk" gown all weekend because of the threat/reality of rain, so be it. But as it is - it's still too far out to be taking any weather reports as real. (I sure hope I'm right on that one - lol!)
So I'll start thinking about that in a couple of days.
Rain ... Yipie! I love playing in the rain ... it feels so ... medieval ... and Scottish!
I am planning on going up for both days - however, I have not graded any student papers in about two weeks ... so I think I may go up and sit quietly in my room and grade Saturday ... then spend the WHOLE DAY Sunday.
Looks like it is going to be a nice day Sunday ! :)
Okay ... just 24 hours away from loading the car and heading North ....
If it rains it'll just be me on Saturday. . . on Sunday both NoirCyn and myself will attend. I'm shooting for Faire Magazine's article on PARF:Hallowe'en, so dress your scariest!

Awesome ... we should be onsite around 1000ish ... we'll be parking in the Hampton parking lot.
We're rolling out tonight after work. We're staying at the Country Inn and Suites for the weekend so if anyone else is staying there we'll be arriving sometime tonight. ;)
If you see us give us a holler!
It's great to see so many of you will be joining us forthe last weekend; I hope I have a chance to meet and chat with some of you! I'm planning on MAKING some time from my schedule to sneak away for a Scythian show at some point. If you've never seen them before, Scythian is a 4-man Celtic band (anywhere from Celtic rock to traditional to Greek and everything in between) thats been a Celtic Fling mainstay for 3 or 4 years now. They are a MUST SEE, absolutely one of my favorite bands. Come to one of their shows at least to give me an excuse to sit and watch with you for awhile! ;)
See you all this weekend - bring your ponchos on Saturday!
Saturday had to be one of the most miserable days I have even been at faire ... let me qualify that remark. Not that the faire of folk were bad ... but the weather ... MY GOD, the weather. I did not know that rain cold actually get that cold without turning to ice ...
Still thawing out. This marks the third time a faire that I have attended has been called due to weather ...
That said, it was still good to be there and share time with so many great people. Until next year PA.

Let me get this straight - did you call it quits, or did the faire actually show people the door because of the weather?
The faire closed at 1600 hrs! Very foul weather.

The weather really was horrible. The Scotsman really was a pitiful sight. We were all huddled in the brewhouse most of the time. It was my first time at PARF and the weather was gross...sad... Now I really can't wait til next year.
I did buy some wine while I was there though! And my friend that came with me bought a tork that she was hoping they still carried from a couple years back!
Well let me say. . We went Sunday, and man we had a great time. It was my first time there. I really like this faire, it was very nice. It will definetly be on the list of faires to visit. ;)

Sorry we missed you guy ... but I am sure you are not sorry to have missed that weather on Saturday ... holy smokes!
Oh Man we really missed you guys. But yea, after we heard about the weather on Sat. I was glad we went Sun.The weather was nice.
Sunday was a great closing day. We enjoyed the company of our new PARF friends and the many MDRF and VARF friends that were there as well. Some of us Ladies even got to participate in the Court of Love and had a blast. However, I think the most fun was the "dragon poop" (mini marshmallows) fight with handheld catapults on Swashbuckler Lane. Queen Elizabeth was right at the front of the fun with the children around her laughing and having the best time. I believe this year's queen was the best I have seen there. Hope to see her back next year as well as our many friends.

my wife and i went out sunday. we have an annual tradition to go to parf on the last day of faire. we come out for the celtic fling, then again for the final day of faire. funny thing, we debated about going due to the weather on saturday, man, i am glad we went. amazing day.
I must say the weather on Saturday was indeed atrocious!! And yes - as soon as management saw lightning they basically herded everyone out - can't blame them. I know Scotsman looked miserable - he was soaking wet and shivering. We were all soaking wet so I have to say it was nice getting back to the hotel and into dry clothes. At least one good thing came out of it all though - I found out that my green gown is indeed washable as it got soaked and didn't fall apart and once it dried it's just fine ;)
Sunday was a gorgeous day and I'm glad I had the opportunity to meet up with all my wonderful friends for a last blast of faire (at least until CRF in mid November). I must agree that the dragon poop war was a real hoot! And this year's Queen was absolutely fabulous! I hope they get her back next year as she is really fun to play with!
I'm sad it's gone but I wouldn't trade all the wonderful moments on closing day with all my friends for the world!
Glad everyone enjoyed themselves! (well, with the exception of Saturday anyway. No one was too ecstatis then, I must say). As far as this year's QE1, I can say (unofficially, of course, as its too early to know anything for certain) that she will most likely be back for another year in the role. Looks like we have a few months to wait to hear any confirmations though but you know I'll try to keep you all informed as must as I can and am "allowed". ;)
As for all the comments in general, definitely pass on what you liked or didn't like to the faire! They always listen to feedback and take patron's comments into serious consideration. There is contact information on the website if you'd like to let them know what you thought about the season: www.parenfaire.com .

Had a GREAT time! I think I had a better time this year than I've ever had there! Now I'd like to contact the faire and let them know what I think starting with how bad their website is but I can't find a way on the website short of calling them. Colleen if you could help out with this that would be fantastic! I've looked EVERYWHERE but the only contact is for group sales, which I'm not interested in. Thanks!
You know - I have to agree with Master James - since PARF redesigned their website it sucks.......no, it REALLY sucks! I can't find a THING on there. So whoever they hired to do it did a terrible job.
I'll have to double-check, but I believe the general email address is royalspk@parenfaire.com . You can also go to the "General Info" tab across the top and there is a "Contact the Faire" form on the left side of the screen. If all else fails, the "snail mail" address is 2775 Lebanon Road, Manheim PA 17545.

OK found the contact faire spot and sent my comments. Thanks Colleen for the help. Hopefully if others put in a good word for the Queen and a bad word for the website, both will be taken care of for next year! And thanks for a great year to you and the entire cast! This year the cast was much more accessible than in year's past and everyone from the court to the street players interacted very well. This makes us want to come back again and again. Thanks again and hopefully you will be able to come to VARF again this year where I'm sure we can find some "trouble" for the Countess to get in to! ::)
Sunday was a wonderful day at faire. the weather was gorgeous. They had a good crowd.
It was fun to see the little kids in their Halloween costumes. My son loved trick or treating thru the shire.I have to admit the guy dressed up as Jean Simmons from Kiss looked a liitle out of place at a renaissance faire. LOL ! I knew the guys from Kiss were old, but not that old !! ;D ;D
Beeboy, it was great seeing you and talking to you.
Master James, i enjoyed finally meeting you and your wife in person.
Beeboy, Master james...next time we have to plan it so that we can all go out to dinner together afterward !
Colleen.. it was great seeing you. You make a beautiful Dutchess. :) I love this year's gown.
Hey all sorry I missed closing weekend of PARF this year but I hope that all went well.I would like to think I will be able to make it next year for at least a weekend or two barring nothing happens to stop me but until then we will just have to see how next year plays out for me.Anyway Colleen do you have any plans of coming for another visit to VARF next year cause it would be really great to have the team from last year of the Derby's and the Southampton's causing mischief and mayhem at the court like we did when we all got yelled at by the Queen?

I'm not sure yet. I'm going to try to make it down again, but as who depends on who I'm cast as at PaRF. I'm not good at switching dialects so if I get a foreign character, I may not switch to a British dialect for a day. Its still far off though, so we'll see what happens between now and then. Southampton or not though, I'm always up for causing some mischief!! ;D
