So, because my oh so wonderful company *cough*sarcasm*cough* is a sponsor, we give out free tickets to Canterbury Downs.  I have a metric town of FREE tickets, along with a free hotdog and Pepsi.  :)  What does everyone think of going to the races as a group?  Vote on a date that you think might work for a group outing...

Sunday July 20th, or Saturday August 2nd works for me.

August 17th is the first Sunday of fest.

Yes Kate, I realize the 17th is the first Sunday of fest, I was just posting the known dates of races.  Heck if I'm going to the races on Sunday...especially since it's Nyte and I's anniversary!

I'm open for about any day really. It doesn't matter...unless it is fest and depending on what time it starts if there's one on a sunday because of practice.

It hurts my brain to think this far in advance.

It does.

Very good friend getting married on the 4th.  Professional pyro guy.  Going to be comatose that weekend.

Fest starts on a Sunday this year?  Really?  (see above...ditto)

It was 92 degrees this time last year btw...

Either of the other two would work.

And keep in mind folks it really isn't very pricey.

$2 to win (like long shot Diaper Dan), $2 to show (like Limp Duck) and $2 to place (like Fat Bottom Girl - think Queen).

Or screw the win, just go for show and place.

ps.  This post has been Baroness approved.

Please to see latest news....oh crap!

It really is a good time MG.

I've only been to a few races but trying to handicap after a few beers is a blast.  Especially with a group.

And the sounds!  Nothing quite like the rush as the field gallops by the grandstand, it really is a good time.

The last couple of times I went I really don't think I betted any more than 30 bucks.  And the real fun is if someone wins a high paying long shot.  A $2 bet can easily turn into $50 bucks.

I'll try to dig up some links on handicapping.

With a metric ton of free tickets, does that mean you also havea metric ton of free money so I can place a bet ?

Sure...do you like the pink bills or the power blue ones?  :P

Ok yeah I se now that a bunch of posts have been lost...

I was saying that I plan to camp on Aug second in Shakopee so that's a good time for me. If the group goes on another date and you still have tickets left over I'd be a gracious recipient!

Just a few things......

July 3rd and 4th might find other things to do.

July 20th I do not see that we have anything planned.

Aug 2nd tall ship in Deluth.

Aug 17th is faire, hard to pull ones self away from that.

At the track those days.....

3rd fireworks and live music.

4th free hot dogs and Wiener dog championship race.

20th camel and ostrich races and free mugs to the first 5000.

17th free admission.

On a side note every Thurs is buck night. 1 admission, 1 hot dogs, 1 pepsi, 1 racing forums, and 2.50 Miller lites...

Come on hard six....papa need a new pair of shoes!

I just tossed the 4th out there because it's a holiday.  The 20th would probably work too!

So were all kinda thinking Sunday July 20th then?  I'm bending to Capt B's schedule.

Should we set this date in mud?

What times?  First race and all.

I'll do up a page 12.

Just bringing this back to the top again since a few people thought July 20th was a good date.  I'm still up for this, and still have about 20 tickets for whoever wants to go.

Looks like we will need 2 tickets for the 20th DB.

Racing starts at 1:30, so for anyone going we should probably meet around 12:30 to get the tickets and find a spot....  ;D

Oops...I gotta go to my niece's birthday thing on Sunday right about the time we would need to meet up with everyone.  Haven't seen her since Christmas  :(  I think we are doing lunch in Maple Grove.

How late do the races go?  Toar and I could come down and meet up with peeps when we're done with the birthday...

Well so far it looks like me, Muffin, Leyla, Josh, DB and Nyte.

What is around there so we can meet up at???

Easiest would probably be just to meet up in the parking lot.  I think half an hour early would be more than enough time.  Otherwise we'll be hanging out in the parking lot for an hour.  Does that work for everyone?

I think we agreed that 1:00pm would suffice.  That will give us plenty of time to hand out tickets and get seats.  (and the free hotdog and pepsi that comes with the ticket for those that want them  ;D )
