Last night, my wife, Susan, took out a Scarborough turkey leg (ScreamS actually). She made pasta with butter and garlic and topped it with sliced turkey leg meat. Simple but it was a fantastic meal!
Does anyone else have Ren Faire food recipes?
Not "I grab meat-on-a-stick and a beer then go watch the Bawdy Wenches show" but what do you do with the Ren Faire food you take home?
Take it Home?!?! What a radical concept :o
Dayna
How would one take home such food? I've never heard of such a thing (other than nuts and stuff that is already in sacks).
But ..... the turkey legs at faire aren't actually turkey though right?
I like to get a couple of Steak on a Stakes or Chicken on a Sticks and take them home. I heat them up and serve with rice and a green salad. Tastes like I slaved over a hot grill.

Cocker spaniel.
Yes they really are turkey.
There have been times at closing gate when the ribs or turkey legs are "buy one get one". We've brought home turkey legs before. Curran's favorite is to pull the meat off of them into bite-size chunks, then fix with pasta and shrooms in a cream sauce later.

:o I'd be inclined to get some for later too with that going on. Never noticed it before at CRF

awfully big turkeys, lol.
I must have heard a rumor.
I've never actually taken home food from faire before other than cinnamon nuts which would be really good crushed up over ice cream. However, I do like making faire-style food at home, does that count? I like making Scotch eggs, and whenever I make beef stew I serve it over a large split open crusty roll, like one of my favorite food vendors does. I've also made fried mac and cheese minus the stick. Nom! I know that's not exactly what you were talking about, but it's still good eatin'!
If there is anything left of the cooler after a weekend, I used to take it home and make slum gulleon.
(or, hobo stew as some know it as)
Tastes warm, the taste always changes as per the ingredients added.
Plus! It smells like faire in the middle of the week!!
One time we had Venison and what is the thinly sliced meat called, something fancy.. I forgot. Starts with a 'B', I think. another time it was a veggy medly that I threw some chili mac in for flavor.
Wow... I didn't think anyone else ever knew the term "slum gulleon". I thought that was a saying my mom made up :D .
I cannot remember which female relative said it first, but, that's what we all call it. I asked my uncle one time what it meant, and he said it was the nicest thing that he could say about it.
Also, if there are sweets left over anything tastes good mixed with ice cream!!
(And! It makes it look like Marble Slab/Stone Cold Creamery-esque quality)
i made some Scarborough chichen... seasoned it with "parsley, sage, rosemary and tyme"... pretty good
I made some Rogue's Tartar sauce: 1tb Mayo & about 1ts Lady MacArthur's Rogue's Relish
It was very tasty on leftover fish from Rockfish!

We like to refer them as "
Dragon Legs" and thats actually what they label them as here at my home faire ;)
The one food that I still like to make (although I have not in a while) and that I liked the best of all faire foods was called A Dragon Egg. I found it at one of the faires in Texas. I think it might have been Excalibur.
It was just a small version of a Scotch Egg, but instead of an Egg in the middle, there was a cheese stuffed jalapeno pepper. With the spicy sausage and bread crumb wrap, they were perfect with a pint in the pub.
Take home food from faire? Well whatever is left in my cooler is taken home. ;D

Well, according to Dudley, they're small children who misbehave. o.o Told me to pick out the one that irritated me the most, let him know, and he'd see to it.
I've never taken Faire food home. But then, I usually avoid eating Faire food. XD
I usually camp at Faire so whatever is left in the cooler comes home with me. Lots of cheese and pickles seem to always make it back home! :D
Lord A and I used to get the 2 for 1 turkey legs and ribs at the end of the day at Scarby and take them back to the motel and feast! They are very yummy! Best Turkey legs I ever had at faire are the ones from Scarby! They are roasted not smoked!
I took half a prime rib sandwich home from TRF. It was good the next day- on fresher bread. Shepherd's pie is good for using up faire leftovers.
why take it home when you can make it yourself. I make my own scotch eggs but put a bit of a southern twang on it with some tony's.
I've noticed that Walmart Superstore here in Waxahachie sells Turkey legs... although I have to say they are not near as good as Scarby's
Mcintyre
I agree I made 1/2 dozen scotch eggs yesterday and I would put them up against any I hav gooten at faire.
Never tried bringing food home from faire...the potatoes and big sundaes we usually get are eaten right on the spot! (And there's nothing like eating salt potatoes while amidst all the hubub of faire) :) *sigh* I'm getting hungry...
I'm sooo hungry!!! I'm completely broke right now! I've been living off spagetti and whatever fast food is available on campus that my bf can buy me, quesadilla's from taco bell are getting really old... I was able to make pork chops and freeze some 2 weeks ago...

Mmmm, I <3 the King's Nuts. I was all prepared to only enjoy them at Faire. Then I found them pre-packaged at a local gas station. I jumped for joy! And then they closed down the gas station.
dangnubbit.
We have a cafeteria where I work and on occasion, turkey legs are served. It also serves grilled chicken, but there is no stick to skewer it. That's good enough for me! Alas, no mead or ale is served; and, I can't wear the kilt, great or small, to work.
Okay. I'll ask...
What awesome place do you work at that serves turkey legs? I've never seen them in any work or school cafeteria I've been in.
Uh-uh-uh-uh! That's too easy. The clues are in my profile tag.
