Fellow Folk
Seeing as though I did the job last year, I now rightfully claim the appointment of the Official Weekend Updater for the 2009 faire season. Granted to me by the lovely webmistress Julianne, I will keep any and all advised as to the weekend theme, weather, source of cheap tickets, as well as other news to make your faire going less stressful and keep you focused on the important stuff like ale comsumption and wench watching.
Respectfully,
Marcos Charron - McCarron
[Moderator Edited: Moved from other thread]Greetings, All!
With just 50 days til the gates part once again...and the excitement building...I ask your collective advice.
I am planning a weekend trip out to your fine festival this season from VA and am looking for the "what's not to miss" at AZRF.
Where do all the cool kids play? (ie..what's the best pub to hang out in? ) How's the joust? Any recommended shows?
Any and all input is much welcomed and appreciated.
~pixie~
Pixie
Where are you staying?, It will help with suggestions.
Marcos
psssssst....Marcos...
I think she meant in her questions regarding all things at Faire.
pixie I have the answer to all your questions: just hang out with us r/fers. ;)
we are the cool kids and wherever we are playing is the place to be.
Julianne
So sorry, I have been playing in the band for the past few nights and I am not up to speed.
Pixie, what Julianne said!
Let us know when you are in town, we will give you a proper welcome.
Marcos
Thanks guys!
I've got the place to stay all arranged, so that's not a problem. And I'm looking to be there around the third weekend in February.
I'll post again closer to that time when I've got better plans made.
I'm looking forward to meeting you all and getting (what will be for me) an off-season faire fix!
By the way, keep in mind too that RenDezvous 08 will be held at MDRF, so if any of you can make it out this way over Labor Day weekend, we'd love to have you!

Thanks, Julianne! Dates are set for Feb 28th & March 1, both days. Any hints on where's best to find you guys hangin' out?
I personally can't be there on Saturday but I'll be sure to see you on that Sunday.
A lot of the R/Fers here have season passes which means you'll see them in line at the "will call" booth collecting their days passes into the faire.
After that...they'll be headed to the royal court to pay their respect and then coffee and booze in some such short order shortly arriving at said booths immediately after the aforementioned if not before.
Then most of the r/f ers head up to the Dancing Pig Pub which is at the other end of the Faire right by the Jousing Arena...to listen to Owain Phyfe. That is a bit of a long journey frought with vendors and temptations along the way so there is no real telling at what time one may reach the desitination of said Pub....all depends on thirst and distracting pubs along the way.
No worries pixie...we shall make sure that we meet and see you before cannon.
:)
to my AZRF compadres:
C'mon y'all! Help the sister out and let her know that we will receive her in true AZRF style and our gentlemen and ladies will be pleased to meet and escort her thoughout her days visit....ahem...time to shine....hello!!!
Can't wait to greet you at our new home fest ~pixie~. The wife and I just moved here, so we're going to be learning all the cool things this year too.
Oh Official Weekend Updater for the 2009 faire season (and any others, I would love some feedback)...Northern California has decided to invade this year :) For all that will be attending, this will be our first year at your wonderful Arizona faire
Weekend you would recommend? In other words, which weekend do YOU all think is the most fun for participants?
Best Ale Stand to hold court?
and please, which is the closest lodgings to the faire site?
My personal recomendation is presidents day weekend, you get the extra day, plus we normally get alot of visiters that weekend

First, welcome and well met!
Next, the information. As for the best weekend, it has to be President's Day Weekend, Feb 14-16. It gives you three days of our wonderful faire, as well as a chance to attend our local meet and greet
at Churchills Pub in Chandler, Friday the 13th of Feb. As for the best Ale stand to hold court?, all are wonderful, but the cool kids prefer to hang out at The Dancing Pig Pub, that is located just outside
the jousting arena. Owain Phyfe performs there as well as Jamila Lotus, the bellydancing troupe.
As for the question of lodging, there are many hotels close to the faire site, I would suggest Expedia or Kayak.com and enter the city of Apache Junction to find something that fits your needs and
purse. If you need more help, you can PM me here, or email to mcaronone@gmail.com and I can help you more.
Hope to see you soon!

The Dancing Pig it is, then! Thank you! I'm sooo looking forward to it! I have seen Owain Phyfe play at MDRF, and NiedFyre plays at VARF, so it will be nice to see familiar faces along with meeting all of you. I'll have MDRF & VARF pins on, so I won't be too hard to spot, either.
Speaking of entertainment - If this is the first time the Medieaval Baebes are playing at AZRF, by ALL means, do NOT miss them! I've seen them at MDRF and they are awesome.
Thanks again!
Pixie
Glad we could help, see you soon.

Thanks, Marcos.
Hey, quick question for you guys...
Can we bring outside food in, or does management frown upon that? Like crackers, cheese & snacks for the table? We do this all the time at MD, but I don't want to make the assumption and have to take it all back to the car.
never heard anything about outside food...only booze
Wellll..I wasn't gonna go there, (meaning the booze part) really. 'specially cause it's not my home faire and wouldn't want to cause any issues at yours!
So, you don't think they'd send me back to the car from the front gate if I happen to have crackers & cheese & such in my basket? Or, maybe they won't throw me out if that stuff is on the table at the pub?
Just checkin'.
Thanks.

Called the front office. Just be low key about it and you won't have a problem. They will be checking flask's though.

Nope... I have worked the front gate. They do not allow outside food or beverages, except sealed water bottles, unless it is like a snack for the wee ones. You are allowed to enter and exit numerous times, so you can keep a cooler in your car and go hit it up as necessary...

As it tentatively stands, I will be there that Sunday. You will be able to find me with Her Royal Majesty Queen Beatrice. Just look for the sexy knees wherever you see the Queen. That's me...
That's right, I am no longer working the tilt yard. As the Queen's personal bodyguard, I have a duty to fulfill. Well, that and the new job ties up most of my weekends...
Thank you both. Guess I'll play it safe, be a courteous guest, and stick with the rules of the realm.
Looking forward to being there and meeting as many of you as possible!
Pixie
Just let us know when and we can tell you where!
Look for the group in the VIP parking area by the front gate, there is always someone there before cannon.

Here's a question from an out-of-towner....are there any buy one get one free ticket deals anywhere that we could take advantage of? We (my family and I) are coming on the 14th and 15th and any cash we could save would of course be a great deal! :)
Zoe
Let me check, last year there was a buy two for $20 in the local paper. I will see if it's the same this year.
Marcos
Excellent. Much appreciated.
Check the back of the Flyers that you can find
also please come and see me at the Falconer's Heath-Look for the harried looking individual

The two-for-one coupons are only good for opening weekend (February 7&8 ) and President's Day Monday (February 16)...
I have a few of these discount rack cards. If you need some, let me know. They may be in Spanish, but the deal is the same...

Went to Frys and got a few today, thanks.

Kwik note fer those passin' thru Tucson. The freeway(I-10) IS under construction. If you need a pit stop you must get off before or at Kino Blvd (south end of city) or continue thru to Ruthraff Rd (northwest end of city). Theres no on/off ramps, no shoulder, no stopping for the stretch thru the city.
Headin' out for Fry's to look for discount tickets ;D
So is this Fry's place somewhere where I could potentially pick up the 2-fers on the Friday we roll into town, or could someone hold some for me that I could grab from you at the gate on Saturday morning?
Fry's is a local grocery store all over the place out here, but me and the wife will try to pick some up just in case people need them
Excellent. We'll try to make a stop at the store when we get into town just in case as well.
Zoe
I will pass the word to the locals to have some on their person also.
Marcos
Thanks!
I have found out a few things, one of which is that they are going to have a Sexiest Knees in a Kilt Contest Noon at the Royal Pavilion the weekend of the Celtic Nations Celebration. I think if the wife and I are able to go that weekend. I just might have to try that out. Be worth a laugh at least.

Addendum by Julianne:
I have to point out that since none of this is technically "official" because it is still not on the AZRF website. We here in no way represent the AZRF or its administration. We simply offer some guidance based on our knowledge as playtrons and patrons to those that may visit. :)
I understand that calls may have been made to the "Office" but since the rule is nothing is "set in stone" until it has been posted on the website and for whatever reasons they are behind on this ...then all of this is subject to change. Pretty much I'd say it's very close but I'd also like everyone to remember that depending on who answered the phone that day...the answer could have been very different.
President's Day Weekend is officially (from my sources ) obviously Valentines, Fiesta, and the King's Birthday....those are the "themes".
It is true that the last weekend of February....our third weekend...is "Venetian Weekend" and will feature a "mardi gras" theme. There you go.
"Mardi Gras" theme? (note to self; bring mucho beads, lots of film).
Where would we be findin' this 2fer1 coupon? (If it indeed becomes set in stone fact)
Morgan
Fry's is the best bet for coupons.
I will investigate and post more locations.
Marcos
As an FYI though the information received regarding the weekends was sent to me via email upon my request sent to the home office. So I'm thinking it might be pretty close. I'm hoping anyway.
Lord Fig
I did check with the office, but we have cast members telling us something different. I will keep checking, but will go with what you so generously sent over.
Marcos
That's always the hard part. Trying to figure who's got the right info, and who is just working off rumors.
Ticket to AZREF: $20
French Garb: $600 (Shhhhh don't tell my wife!)
Goblin King Sword with Fleur di lis guard: $800 (Wife thing again please)
Medieaval Baebes + Frenchmen - PRICELESS! (OH YEA - Definitely the wife thing here ;))
hehe
*grumble grumble....garb whore....grumble grumble*
Nice to see you here finally my darling husband.
It's good to see such love in the room.
Who wants to bet on the temperature for first weekend?
I say it'll be sunny and quite warm...at least 79...more like 80ish.
(there are others who think it'll be rainy and low 70's....hah!)
Considering this has been what they have called an unseasonably warmer winter than normal, who knows, it might even make it an even warmer fest season than normal too. (Don't beat me)
We don't have a Fry's in Kingman. If possible, could someone grab us a few of the "2fers"? ::)
I am saying the temp will be 71 degrees and cloudy.
I'm betting on weather-period. Oh, let's just call it Period Weather, shall we? With a 100% chance of daylight rising low in the East crossing to high in the sky brightly, midday, and finally precipitating far and into Western horizon!
I've had the nighttime forecast in my signature for a while....

Nope definitely not hard on the eyes at all. They ain't called babes for nothing, that's for sure.
UHhhhhhmmmm....(I just know I'm falling head first into this one)...
Freudian slop there you rogues of Fairhaven.....it's not "babes"....it's "baebes"
Ann I'll be willin' ta beeetcha you woon't be saavouring nae but them lasses vocals audibly.
I'm pretty sure my dad (whom I think you will get along with Comté, he's a noble Frenchdude too....) will enjoy the Medieval Baebes quite a lot.
My mom might not, but she'll be too busy checkin' out tights anyway.
I love having rennie parents!
hehe...you never know, mom may very well enjoy them too, as their singing is fantastic

Still trying to get Sunday coverage at work so I have extra time at faire - Depending on the forecast I might be in partial garb

Hi Everyone,
I will be coming to the Festivities on the 21st and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how do I get in on the fun? Everyone seems to be so friendly and welcoming which eases my nervous about talking to people about how to be a part of it all. I have been wanting for so long to do a fair, and I thought I could drill the brains of you fine people for some advice on how best I could go about doing this perhaps for next year or at another fair sooner? I'm a newbie but my heart has very much always been a part of it all. Thanks so much, I can wait to spend my money supporting the crafters and eat till I need to be carted out. Enjoy the great Arizona Weather
:)

We are also rather new to the Arizona festivities, and you seem an obliging and welcoming sort. Good day, my lord, and may the sun smile warmly upon you and yours! :)
Dearest gentlemen,
Marcos Charron, Comté de Gilbert, and Lord Figaro thank you all so much for the warmest welcomes! I am so honored to receive such kindness! I was worried that it wouldn't send it correctly ... I tried to reply back and it said one was sent and the PM sent me the other one back?! Hummm ... just my luck. Well, what I said was that I will be going back to the Fair in another 3 weeks on a Sunday if you would rather we meet then, that way you don't have to inconvenience yourself too much. I am unsure of the date just yet, I was thinking the 7th but it may be a week later. I usually attend the fair at least 3 times during its season. Tomorrow is simply round one lol. If however tomorrow does work for you then my romancer ( the Boyfriend) and Myself would be honored to meet where ever and what ever time works best for you. Thanks much! :)
I hope to be seeing and making many new friends tomorrow, i am so excited!

Sundays are best for me, please let me know what Sunday you will be there and I will sure to meet you.

I do wish we were going this weekend, but our travel plans are for something towards the end of the run. I can't have my birthday month go by and not go at least once more to fest. That would be a travesty beyond measure I would think.

You seemed a bit lacking today with out your cousin to help you with all those hands that needed to be kissed. Maybe I should go over to the French side of the aisle and be avle to help you out?
Marcos
It's always better on the French side. ;)
Zoe
Yep, but my gypsy family might be mad.
Marcos
I'll be at faire tomorrow. Hope to see some of you!

Enjoy it while you can, it will be close to 90 here next week.
Marcos
Soon ooooh soon I wanna go back to fest NOW, I need my fix man. I'll take 90's over freezing snow any day of the week.
Julianne! Will you be attending this coming weekend? Saturday, Sunday, or both? I can only make it one day and I'd like to catch up with you.
We'll be there on Sunday :)
yay! had a pretty good time last weekend, but no where near as much fun as when you guys are there
Okay, plans keep getting pushed back so instead of it being this coming weekend. It's more likely it will be the following weekend instead. But we're going to get there by god or ELSE.
Fig,
You two will be attending final weekend? That'd be March 28th, 29th.
Yay!!! I'm just glad you can make it once more.
can't wait for you guys to make it down again!
Well sad news on two fronts. Brandi's aunt (her mothers oldest sister) passed away and the memorial is going to be held on the final weekend of fest. Her father is leaving this Friday to drive up, and Brandi is looking into trying to see if she can get up there as well. But that isn't looking good either. Sadly though, with her father gone, we have no one to watch the dogs. So it looks like our next fest event will have to wait till Labor day weekend at MNRF. So long as nothing happens, and that plan gets blown all to hell. So much for celebrating our birthdays together Comté de Gilbert. Maybe next year?
We would hate to have you guys miss faire on acount of dogs, so if you guys can and have a desire to come down for faire closing weekend. Please bring the babies, you can stay with us, the dogs can keep Simon company for the weekend and you can stay with us and be at faire. No pressure, but the invitation is there, we would love to have you visit again! There is the whole drinking thing to take into account. just pm me and let me know
Fellow Folk
Once more the end is near, and I have enjoyed the time at faire, as well as here keeping everyone up to date on the goings on of our fine faire. Hope to see you all on Sunday for one last sing and a beer.
