Title: Official meet and greet for 2009
Post by: DonaCatalina on December 17, 2008, 10:25:06 AM
This year, I think the Post-Parade Meet and Greet needs to be moved to the Dirty Duck Pub in Holly Field.

1. It's a lot less crowded.
2. It has a lot of shade.
3. We wouldn't have to yell over the screaming kids at the bungee jump.
4. Death Marchers might actually be able to join us.

That does sound good there is also the FoF booth down there

Good idea!  Unless there's some after parade annoucement for the Royal Guard, I can fall out just after we turn around to go back to the tent.  It also puts me closer for guarding the King's Luncheon.  Lawrence will have to go back to the Scotty Cotty, but we can work that out.

I think that sounds like a great idea, there's no reason for it not to work out better for our marchers. Does anyone have any real objections to it?

If so then I am There!

*and will there be rum there?*

That works for for me and Lady Katherine. We probably hass seen and/or spoken with a lot of people but have not gotten to know them. Time to remedy the situation with a Meet and Greet.

Sounds like a really good idea!
It also has the added bonus for ya'll to see the Scarby SAPA cast in action!

We do an improvised post-parade proclamation right on the Chess board.
(On a good day, you can hear it from the FOF booth)
It is fun to watch as we challenged each other to think on our feet.

Last year, Lord Derby wore a trash can for a hat.

Also! I may get to swing by and say hi to my friends and make new friends!!

Sounds great to me!  We're either watching the parade from down by the chess board, or I'm marching as a drummer for the belly dancers.  The latter requires a drink and a rest at the FoF area afterward anyway.

Unless anyone can post any viable arguments against, I'll go ahead and post it as the official meet and greet on the front of the Roll Call so that everyone gets the memo!

Looking forward to seeing everyone! Under 100 days!  ;D

Hey, I just wanted to let everybody know that the Dirty Duck has been rebuilt and the covered seating is no more.  There will be tables with umbrellas but I don't know how comfortable that will be to everyone at the Meet and Greet.  To that end, the Festival would like to offer the Celebration Pavilion right by the Duck from 1 pm to 1:30 pm.  We are re roofing it to make it more water tight and there will be plenty of shade. We never got a sign up last year so you may not be aware of it. It is the little pavilion with built in seating.  We are now offering it for Birthday Parties and other parties for smaller groups of 10 to 30.  I hope that you will find it acceptable for the Meet and Greet.

Sir Berit of Miller, Knight of Lite.

That sounds great Berit! Thank you!  I am sad about the Dirty Duck though. It is always a shady quiet spot.
I will probably still watch the parade from my usual spot by the Kings pub and make my way down to the pavilion after the parade.

Thank you Sir Berit!

The Dirty Duck will be missed, but sometimes things have to be rebuilt.
I plan on checking this out during the FOF preview event.

Hello everyone. Hubby and I are  not new to Ren Faires but we are new to this forum. We usually go with just 2 of us as our friends are not interested  but  it would be so nice to get to meet and get to know yaal and possibly make some more friends.. I did not see any forum space for noobies to introduce themselves so please forgive me if this is not an appopriate spot for my post.

Would it be OK if hubby and I join yaal's meet and greet though we  did not interact on these forums much ( yet!)?

Its suppost to be an indoor pub along the lines of the Prince of Wales at TRF haven't heard if it will have AC or not.  The area around it has very little shade no big nice shade trees beyond the Pecan Grove.

Couple of consideration points -
The parade will be reversed this year.  It will begin in the Holeyfield by the Duck and end where it has been coming out.

The Cat and Fiddle is not air conditioned and will be having the first wine tasting during the parade, so there will probably not be access until around 2:15 at the earlieset and it will only be available for about a half an hour.

The offer still stands for the Celebration Pavilion for use for the midday meet and greet.

Wonder if its that little covered eating area just below the village kichen?  Never knew it to have a name before.   There is or was a small stage there I remember the Motley Players III performed there their first season.

Be kinda hard to get there after parade if the route is reversed.

The problem with the Celebration Pavilion is that it's down near where the parade will be STARTING this year - not good for those of us who are in it.  Would be nice if we can find someplace nearer to the end of the parade (or near the Royal Guard tent and Scotty Cotty anyway).

Yes, Var, that was the problem last year. The meeting place was near the start of the parade with the time near the end of parade. I never could make it.

Okay...so its ending where it started last year, which is opposite of whats on the current festival map up on the website, correct?

Why doesn't everyone just congregate in the shade by the Friends of Faire booth in Pecan Grove then? That seems like an easy point, gives the marchers a chance to get something cool to drink and sit too. Plenty of shade.

Just throwing the idea out there.

I say ole boy hardly cricket just because the Scots showed your English up last memorial day was no reason to take the Scots cottage.  Being a poor sport what?

Nope, just what it is named now.

And there is still no smoking around the place, for obvious reasons.  ;)

The Pecan Grove FOF after the Parade?
Sounds good.

Lilaney don't spoil me fun the best part of being Scottish is annoying the English ;D   Its all the English fault don't you know?  Heat cold wet dry snow rain mud dust its all the English fault they do it just to get even with the Scots because we are much more fun than they are and they can't stand that.   :P

The shady spot in the Pecan Grove after parade sounds fine, water and shade just what we want right after parade.

Yes but we all know VIII is just a big softie now his sister Maggie is the one to worry about, she can be scary.  Have you seen her put the Lairds in their place makes a strongman pale.   She could drive a man sober a terrorable thing for a scotsman to be.

Capt Marge if there be a flogging I want you to attent to personally,  ::)  Oh lady Bear might have something to say about that mustn't upset she who must be obeyed.   :o

One thing about the meet and greet Stewart and Arnold show is right after the parade we might want to wait till 2 to have it so as not to interferr with there act.   That would also allow people time to get water.

Taking the cottage is no big deal as long as Queen Margaret is still there. By far the fairest of all the lands.

Hmmm...Stewart and Arnold show?  ???  I'm looking at the festival map and there arent any stages really close to the FoF Booth in Pecan Grove, it's got a big enough area across from it in the shade that I think it'd be a good place to watch the parade and be close for the Marchers. Everyone will still be hanging out for quite a bit after parade because of the Marchers and also for any stragglers plus we have the group photo... so Marchers shouldn't feel rushed.

The gypsy stage is closer than it looks on the map. But really, I don't care where as long as there is shade. :P

Just let us decide where and when so all can meet up!
I do not tend to stay too long in one place. We used to meet up at FOF in the AM before the parade. 10AM- or was it 10:30? I am quite flexible though.

Unless someones is violently opposed to it, I'm going to go ahead and make the executive decision that the Meet 'n Greet for 2009 be across from the FoF Booth in Pecan Grove. Okie dokie?  ;D

Sounds good, Eloquent!  I do have to run back to the Guard tent after parade unless they let us sign The Book beforehand, but hopefully, some of you will hang around for a little while after the parade is over.

I'm in on this forum a little late, so pardon a likely repeated question. The FOF at Pecan Grove. What day(s) and time??

Sounds fine with me like Var Greyshadow I'll have to run back to were ever the Scots are meeting up (booo, hisss, war, uncomplementary things about the English, large bowl of porridge) after parade, to sign in and get paid.

is it set in stone that the parade is reversed this year or is it just wishful thinking? Don't forget you have the ceramic/pot maker cross the way from the FOF area. Are they going to have the tent down by the armory/pub like last year. They had it up but it looked like it was only used as a rest area.

Meet 'n Greet takes place every day of faire, though...I'm not sure as to how many people show up on Sundays since I'm a Saturday only-goer.

The important info is that people start coming together for the Meet 'n Greet around 1 or 1:30 (or even a little before), watch the parade/wait for the Marchers afterwards from the shade across from the FoF Booth. People tend to hang around and chat until we take the group photo, which really depends on the weekend and if we have our friendly neighborhood Valt, Melkar, or Stalkwell handy.

And Master Benjamin, yes- Berit confirmed it. He's our direct connection to the higher ups at Scarby, I take it.

Yes he is!  Berit is The Man in the office at Scarborough Faire (Well after Coy, the GM).
If you ever attend a Scarborough Event outside of Faire, you'll see Berit there.

Oh, did I hear a mouse-f@rt in here?  Ahh, probably nothing. ::)
I'll just go to my Royal Luncheon at the Village Armory... :D

Why did the English invade France?  They were looking for a good meal.  Eating an English lunch now that is real punishment, for taking the Scot's cottage. 8)  Come over to the plaid side we have Scotch and cookies.    :D

So for all you Scarby Veterans.......If we play on the human chess field at 12:30 and 2:00, there is no way I can make it to where you all are having the meet and greet can I?  Or is Scarby small enough that I could stop by for 15 mins and make it back?
Title: Re: Official meet and greet for 2009

Scarby is smaller than TRF so if you dont get distracted, you can get there, see everyone for a few minutes, and make it back...maybe. I was planning to stop by and see you inbetween shows anyways!
