Title: An Extraordinary Year of Talent Retired
Post by: Julianne on December 25, 2008, 07:12:54 PM
I thought ...(always a dangerous thing ;))
that it has been a great loss to us this particular year of many a talented persons leaving this world.

From Paul Newman, Suzanne Pleshette, George Carlton, Richard Widmark, Charlton Heston, Heath Ledger, Jeff Healy, Bettie Page, Roy Schieder, Bo Diddley, Richard Wright, Dick Martin, Jerry Reed, Cyd Charisse, Michael Crichton and most remarkably today Earth Kitt and many others,  gosh so many more...we are as a human race extremely void of these great actors and entertainers as an example of the creative better of us all.

I know the next generation will come to the call....but I will miss these.

Please let us not forget Brad Renfrow, the young actor from The Client.
His death seemed to be overshadowed by Heath Ledger but I think he is just as important.
Such a tragedy.

And Van Johnson, just 2 weeks ago, at age 92. according to the local newspaper, he was in good spirits that day, ate a hearty meal, and said he was tired and going to take a nap. He went to sleep, and that was it. What a graceful way to go.

And Joy Page in April at age 84. Most people do not recognize the name but she was the last surviving cast member of one of my favorite movies, Casablanca. She played the young newlywed that Rick allowed to win at roulette so they could pay for their exit visas.

Majel Barrett Roddenberry, who appeared in the original pilot, the original series, Next Generation and I believe appeared on an episode of Deep Space 9, as well as her voice appearing as the computer in many permutations of the franchise.
