Title: When is it busy/empty at the Festival?
Post by: Methos on January 29, 2009, 01:51:08 PM
Apologies if this is one of those questions that is asked ten-thousand times, but I am new to these boards and couldn't find the answer.

Is opening weekend typically busier than average?

Many thanks.

First, WELCOME!

Second, most opening weekends depends on the weather and the traffic. If we keep going like we are?, opening weekend should be brisk. Good weather, OK gas prices, and a crappy economy will make most faire seekers want to spend their limited budget for entertainment close to home.

Bad weather?, makes the gate numbers come down a little, but not that much. If you want a slower day think about Presidents Day weekend and going that Monday, might be a good time to avoid the crowds.

Define Brisk.... Is that when your nostrils stick together when you breath in? Or your wet hair freezes in the car on the way to work? Or maybe its when your door locks are frozen shut on the car? No no... that would be here in MN....  :D

See you kids in two weeks!! I look forward to the brisk AZ weather!! hee hee!!

I don't know what you are going on about.

It's going to be in the high 70's by the weekend.

For us brisk has to do with crowds and hearty tea.

Methinks this is going to be a warm season.....for everyone that's not an Arizonian...that will mean HOT for you.

If it does cool down in temperature it will only be because it's raining....which by all standards rain and Arizona...yeah...figure that.

The weather here during February and March can be most unpredictable....I will guarantee this though....it will be warmer then the rest of the continental U.S.   ;D
Oh...and I'm 99.9% sure that it won't snow here either....yeah double ;D

To answer the original question...it's not busy on Wednesday's.
;)

We know hot up in Colorado during our season, but it being that warm in February is going to be very weird for me....

Actually, who am I kidding, we had a 70 degree day here in Denver about 2 weeks ago.  It's been a very unseasonably warm winter for us, with the exception of those few sub-zero weeks we get.

In my experience at Faire, with one Presidents day brining in 26,000 people one year, 21,000 another and the line on the US60 being two hours plus of a wait, I would avoid that Monday or be there by 9:30.  The economy will most likely affect it a little but I would say the Saturday after Presidents day is a fairly slow one.  The first weekend has two for one coupons and Presidents day is a two for one day as well so that seems to draw a lot of people.  So once the first two weekends pass, most of the "some-timers" have gone and a lot of the "one-timers" have gone.  So the third Saturday seems to be a little less busy to me.  That's just my two cents.  And as been said above, a good rain runs a few out as well. :)

Joe

I think the economy and gas prices spell a good run for this year. I see more people doing things locally rather than going out of town, so I think we will see more mundanes this season, all season long.

Whatever day you go, be there before cannon, find the cool kids in the VIP parking lot, and plan for a great day.

Hey Julianne, earlier in this thread you stated you were 99.9% sure it wouldn't snow, well I'm in Arizona and it's snowing where I am right now. Looking pretty heavy about it too.

OK

The weather and temps you two are experiencing are just to show you the difference when you get here and everything is nice and sunny.

Of course, it's supposed to be cold and windy for Prez Day weekend but AZ weather is like anywhere else, just wait a moment and it will change.

If it wasn't cold President's day weekend, all of our Minnesota friends would go into shock due to the severe climate shift  ;D

I'm reckoning that with the rather cool and wet weather coming up, the 'danes, more than likely, will not venture to the faire.  Based on past experience it probably will be a sparsely populated weekend.

The rain scares most Phoenicians....they scurry home, get under blankets and eat soup.

The Faire Playtrons however....we don our cloaks, boots, and gloves (which rarely get to make appearances) and forge ahead.

Uh yeah.. it's raining here again today and it 40 degrees? It is still winter right? Or did I skip over a couple of months and its spring? *perhaps it is time to cut back on the drinking?*

I R Confused...  ::)  :D

Wheee we leave for AZ tomorrow afternoon!! I can't wait!!  :-*

*nods in agreement*  I love the rain.  One of my favorite days at faire was THAT day in the 2007 season when lightning hit the parking lot.  *grin*  We sat in the rain and watched Tartanic pound away through the storm loud enough to beat the thunder and then sat in the Royal Pavillion and played Charades with Prince James.  It was FUN.

Gloves!  That's what I need!  And waterproof camera equiptment bags . . . I think I need to start a list *laughing*

Well.  I am new to these forums... but I have to say...  we (me, wife and 7 year old boy) were there at cannon on opening day... and we were there till close.

It was the best weather imaginable... and the most perfect day we have had in a long time.  So much wonderful entertainment and incredible food.  And the crowds seemed significantly lower than I had remembered from previous years (admittedly, it has been quite a few years).

Pretty sure we are going back next weekend.  :)

Thanks to everyone for the help and advice.

What time does that start/will you be there with the banner till opening cannon on Saturday?  I want to be able to meet y'all before the craziness begins, but I'll have to drag the family out of the hotel on time, haha.  They're not quite as concerned about being there by cannon as I am...that's when all the fun happens!!

The breakfast is supposed to start at 9am, one hour before cannon. I don't know this for a fact, but i am sure someone who knows better will chime in. As for the family, if you need a ride out early, let us know, someone is sure to be going in your direction.

Sounds good.  I will try my best to drag them out there.  We are staying in Goodyear, which I know is a little bit of a ways away, but if someone is going past that direction I might call upon 'em if I need to.

yep we are planning to start at about 9:00, possibly sooner if they will allow us into the lot prior. Need enough time to clean up after ourselves prior to cannon.

they usually open the lot at 9:00, but last year they allowed us to come in through the cast gate (where we normally exit) at about 8:30ish if I recall

That gate is for cast?, I always enter through that gate, show them my pass and they wave me in.

Try it!
