Title: Lady Glorianna and Sir Dragon -*updated*-
Post by: Lady_Glorianna on May 07, 2008, 07:31:06 PM
Well, I will be having my discogram tomorrow. After that I have to go back to the the back surgeon who I will see May 30th. It will be determined then what will happen with me.

Sir Dragon's chemo is on hold until his oncologist and his gastroenterologist come to some sort of agreement of what is next. Both his colonoscopy and upper GIw/small bowel series came out ok but he is still unable to keep much down and in massive medication controlled pain. There are a couple of things theycan look at but the cancer doctor has to ok them. We should have an idea of what the plan will be next Wednesday.

Well, my back is killing me, I Hate discograms >:( The doctor that did it told me that it confirmed that the disc above my fusion is the culprit for my pain. Now what that means in terms of what is next I will not know until the 29th.

On Sir Dragon's front, we got two I guess you can call good news: a)we finally got his claim for social security on track and b)we got a letter from the lawyer that they got all the medical records and that we should get an answer in about a month.

latest update:

Looks like Sir Dragon will start the new round of chemo next week, most likely Friday May 30th. This round will be a bit harder as it will be a bit stronger and will require weekly treatments instead of bi-weekly.

Sir Dragon is not holding on to either food or meds. We have tried several things (saltines. gatorade, soda, baby food, broth, bland simple foods, etc) and nothing seems to work. He just told me that if he is not better by tomorrow, we were headed to the hospital. He is scheduled to begin chemotherapy next Friday. Please pray that his system calms down enough to start treatment as this is a consequence of the cancer. He just had an upper gi series w/small bowel and a colonoscopy and all came out well so we know that it is not his digestive system.

He made it through the weekend but tomorrow is doctor day. He called the gastroenerologist and has secured an appointment for tomorrow at 9. He also has an appointment with the oncologist for 11:45. We are packing a bag and taking it with us in case he is hopitalized by either of them.

** Latest Update**
Sir Dragon was not hospitalized. It was decided by the doctors that he would get fluids at the chemotherapy center today, an endoscopy and another session of fluids tomorrow and if all goes well, he will start chemo on Friday. Since he cannot take pills, the doc prescribed a patch in order to help with the pain.

Today has been quite a day

They found a "high grade obstruction on the duodenum from probable extrinsic compression from tumor, cannot rule out invading tumor." He has been referred to a surgeon for a stent placement. Meanwhile he has to remain on a liquid diet until all of this is solved and none the less he will start a new round of chemo tomorrow.

As for myself, the discogram was positive. Due to several mix-ups/misunderstandings the doctor would not give a definite diagnosis but seems like I am headed for more back surgery, Will know more when I see the doctor again on June 19th.

Stent has been placed. Things went well. He is now just trying to get used it and chemo which this time around, he has to get  every week. It is too early to tell, but it seems like chemo at least helps controlling most of the pain and to halt most if not all the complications.

Got I guess somewhat of a good surprise: looking into our accounts I guess I got approved for social security disability. With all the advertisements for lawyer services and after talking to several people who emphasized that 99% of applicants get denied the first time, I had thought that I might have to fight SSA too. Guess my doctors painted a pretty grim picture and got me through the process.

I came across this poem today and thought i would share it with you.

      What Cancer cannot do........

             it cannot.....

          invade the soul
        suppress memories
         kill friendship
          destroy peace
          conquer the spirit
          shatter hope
          cripple love
            corrode faith
            steal eternal  life
            silence  courage

You both continue  to be in  my thoughts  and  prayers ! :)

Well, it is now official. The disk at L3-L4 is screwed up and in my doctors's opinion, conventional therapies will do nothing to solve the problem so his recommendation is more surgery. This time around they would have to go in either through the back or through the side. Although he has vast experiences doing surgery, if I agree to the less invasive side surgery, I would the the first patient he does said style of surgery to. Of course, all of this if workman's comp approves all of this. They could still say that I need to to go through other therapies before they will approve surgery. We just came back from the doctors and Sir Dragon is feeling miserable so needless to say we shall discuss this further later. I'm a bit bombed because again my participation at MDRF is being messed with and we were both so looking forward to it for many reasons from it is therapy to us righ through this might be Sir Dragon's last time at MDRF.

I'm so sorry  to hear this .  I feel so bad for  you guys.  I know how it is  to go for years  living in pain.  No fun  !
I'm sorry you have to have more surgery on your back.  I  would deffinitely  see if they can do it  from the  side  then  go  through the back.   When i had my surgery to remove  my tumor, they went through both the  side  and back.
The back incisions  hurt, but the  side one was not too bad.  Maybe  you can find  someone  who is  experience  with  doing the less invasive .

Have you  considered  looking into laser surgery?  My cousin who is  a operating room nurse  told  me  there is  something  called a  Gamma  kinfe,  (  i think that is  what she called it ),  that is  very  inavasive, and  you barely feel a  thing she  claims.

Soory to hear Sir Dragon is feeling  poorly.     I Hope  you two will both somehow  beable  to go  to faire.   Don't give  up hope.   I know  easier said  then  done, but miracles  do happen  !
Hugs  and prayers  to you  both ! :)

My prayer are with you both, I pray for you to believe for the impossible because when you belive for the impossible, the impossible becomes the possible. hold on to your faith and don`t let it go, I know it is hard to keep looking for at the bright side things, but keep looking at the bright side of things.( the fact you have each other to hold,  your family, your dreams, your passions, the love you share with each other these are the things I  wish for you to look at)  when we allow ourselfs to just see all the bad we can get very depressed, so look at the possitive things that are going on right now. I know they might be few, from your stand point; but find if you can good things and look at. The good things will help pull you through the bad times. The good things can be streams of water in the desert times.

Well someone at my job decided to add more on to my plate. Ever since I "returned" to work back in March, the deduction for my health insurance has been screwed up and to top things off, I did not get paid for the 4th of July holiday. I have come to find out it was because some idiot decided to classify me as a part-time employee.  ??? >:(

Since I had used my leave to deal with the back situation in the beggininning and here we are a year later (no reimbursement of leave), I had to request donated leave to cover those days that Sir Dragon has treatment or just plain and simple does not feel well. Seems that some  ??? decided to launch a complaint saying that I have been using the donated leave to cover days I take off due to my back and not to deal with Sir Dragon. WTF ??? I had to put a list together and supposedly I could still be requested to have his doctors confirm the dates.

The workman's comp person has at least and at last gotten to the right parties and has started the ball rolling on getting this mess fixed telling me that "Seems to me that the right now the only focus you should have to deal with is spending as much quality time with your husband as possible" and not to worry about this anymore. I guess time will tell....

We still have no answer to the water rention problem which trust me when I say it is happening in the most uncomfortable place. His doctor asked me to give him the rest of Friday and the morning of today to consult about the situation and to call him in the afternoon. I did and left him a message but he never called back. Since his doctor does not work Tuesdays I have to wait til Wednesday. I shall call first thing in the morning.
