Title: Roller skating, kilts and glow sticks...
Post by: SleepyArcher on February 21, 2009, 04:33:22 PM
How much fun would that be? It's like six bucks to skate. Roller skates and roller blades provided or bring your own. Who would be interested? What nights or weekend days work for you?  I will post exact prices and times later.

Tuesday, Friday or every other Saturday would work for me.

In the evening.

It does sound fun though.

I can see it now, news report of multiple children in need of intense psychiatric counseling from a night out at the roller skating rink. What began as an innocent night out becomes a tragic story of children having nightmares from exposure to men in kilts who keep falling down at their local skating rink. More on this story at 11, 10 PM central.

Rollergardens has an adult only skate night and I think they serve the booze, maybe that would be a more appropriate option so as not to horrify children, only other adults.

Ladies and gentlemen, be very careful at Cheapskate, it's gone way downhill in the last couple of years, all the way down to gangbanger central.

Care to elaborate on that?  We drive past it all the time and have never seen any cause for concern.

I love to roller skate-used to be pretty darn good at it, too.

Right now I'm barely walking to and fro, so as long as we schedule this for a later date, I'm most definitely in!

I'd be up for either a family day out, or just adults.

"Care to elaborate on that?"

Sure, the last instance was a rather large gang fight/brawl in the parking lot, 1 1/2 months ago.
The rash of strong arm robberies last summer? The rink was the jump-off point for the two 'young men' doing the robbing.
I used to take my kids there maybe 3-4 years ago, until one evening "Homie from The Bloods" walks in to scope it out. Management ran him right back out the door, but the future was obvious and unavoidable along that dilapidated stretch of CRB.
Be careful and check who's hanging about the parking lot!

What a bummer.... I guess its just not the good ol' days anymore.... I remember as a kid being dropped off at Skateland in Fargo and staying all day!! My parents didn't have to worry one little bit!!

Muffin, I can't quite make out your fine print, did you say Fargo?   ;)  I too used to get dropped off at a skating rink for all-nighters and there was never a problem.  although, they did lock us in and nobody could come and go after a certain time for "our safety."

Miss you too sweetie. I will say though that I had heard from some friends about Cheapskates having some troubles before I moved down. I'll ask where they go now and see. I know they take their kids a lot, so I may be able to find out more, if you like?

Really, I heard that was just too many kids in one lot that couldn't drive so the had to wait for rides to come get them because too many teens showed up and the had to not let any more kids in.  SOme radio show had their DJs there one night or something. It seams safe enough for me.

From what I understand B96 had a new years eve even there.  There was not an issue with overcrowding inside HOWEVER all the people outside waiting became impatient and a few fights broke out.  But beyond that there were several gangs there as well and there were some turf scuffles.  No gunshots to the best of my recollection...but definite fights and they ended up shutting down the whole event early because of it.

I blame the rap music and their offensive lyrical content.  We should put some kind of warning sticker on that stuff....oh wait...

You post this information as though there are no other places where people act violently.   One should always exercise caution when out at night but just because there have been incidents doesn't mean you stop going.
Title: Re: Roller skating, kilts and glow sticks...
Post by: SleepyArcher on May 20, 2009, 01:21:48 AM
I agree with with MG. Isolated incident. It's not like gangs hang out there looking for trouble. Most of the time its nice and decent there. You can get shot just about anywhere these days.

"You post this information as though there are no other places where people act violently."

No I dont, it's not at all that simplistic. Just be careful and know where you are, where to avoid. Or you could just party in The Hood since something might not happen there.
Isolated incident? How many of those does one need? Where do gangs "hang out looking for trouble?"

Keep in mind Oldarcher you are speaking to adults fully capable of making their own decisions on where they choose to go and do their thing. Your warning is appreciated, but you don't need to push the issue because it seems they are choosing a course contrary to what you are recommending. I'm not saying this to upset you, but I think you should let it go.

The people at cheap skate are just trying to make a living like the rest of us. The thought they were doing a good thing giving teens a place to hang and hear the music they like. But they have had to change their plans. I just got an email this past week from them. They have cut teen music night and replaced it with oldies night and christian music night.

Good, that's a proven remedy to the 'invisble problem'.
Watch your arse out there!
