Title: First Year At Scarby
Post by: hoodofsherwood on March 13, 2009, 03:47:08 PM
This will be our first year at scarby, We have been to TRF but hoping that scarby will be just as impressive. We will be there for the opening weekend and I just wanted to know if there is anything that will be going on opening weekend and not the following weekends, I assume it is on whether it is rain or shine? Need a pair of boots so I am hoping there will be a few vendors with a nice selection.

I always find opening weekend brings the massive crowds, but personally I've not seen much difference in weekends!  However, it will certainly be going on rain or shine and there will be plenty of vendors with boots and all sorts of other things!!  Scarby is huge and wonderful and ever so slightly similar to TRF, yet also quite different in many ways!  I love both, but for very different reasons actually.  I love the King and Queen of Scarby and their wonderful court dancing in the afternoon.  I also love Noobler and his silly antics.  The shows are all very different and I'm sure there are a million people on here willing to throw up suggestions on that front!

The only act that I know of that will only be there opening weekend is Arsene.  I think all the rest will be there every weekend.

Hi! as one of the cast members, I would like to say you are gonna love our faire!

One difference that is happening this year is our History, Customs and Manners lesson.
Every day our Historians will pick a topic and storytell to the audience about the Real 1533.
It should not be missed. Last year we had so much interest in it, we ran out of seating room for everyone, hence why they are on-stage this go-round.

Yep! We are there rain and Shine!
Heck, 2007 opening day it snowed! Which made the whole place look like a snowglobe that had been shaken up.

Scarby is smaller than TRF in size, seperated into three parts.
The Pecan Grove (The joust, Maypole, MPIII and indoor pub are over there)
The Crown Meadow (As you enter the festival, you are there. Country Dance, Court Dance, Crown Stage)
The Holly Field (Human Chess Match, Mythical Monster Museum and Arsene)
Just to name a few, there is more to see for your own eyes once you get there.

Lots and lots to see and do, I personally believe our Scarby will not dissapoint.

That day is one of my favorite memories of faire.  Watching the Rogues, with a warm mug and wrapped in a cloak, was the best!

No, Scarby will not disappoint. I love TRF for much different reasons than I love Scarby, but Scarby is home...Scarby, everything is smushed all together so I can go walking around the circle and easily find another person from my faire family (or they me), and I'm much more familiar with the shops and a few of the shop owners at Scarby.

Once we get the finer details of it ironed out, please come and join us at the Meet 'n Greet Opening Weekend and meet some of our fellow board members and watch the parade with us. We have quite a group and always love to meet newcomers and welcome them into our faire-mily.  :)

Oh, you're just jealous of all the handsome Musketeers getting all the attention... hehe... many are quite adorable indeed!  Not that you are not of grand qualities too Teach, but there are single cute Musketeers you're competing against!!

Since our first time at scarby, I have always thought that the very comical UNIT of musketeers has been impressive. I can hardly get 5+ people together for a BBQ some times, and these (20+?) folks dress up in rather thick, heavy garb in the hot texas sun, and strut about (they do not really march, its much more conceded then that LOL).

Like I said, very impressive - especially for frogs!

Oh fear you not- Scarby will go on rain or shine.  Gods teeth! It SNOWED one year on opening weekend and the show still went on (first time ever I had to wear SWEATS under my garb. LOL).  It's a cool little faire.  You'll really dig it.

IMHO: The most notable difference between TRF and Scarborough is that TRF is larger.
It has been said to us, time after time, that Scarborough has more of a "village" feel.

My wife and I LOVE TRF and never get down there as much as we want!

Welcome, Hood of Sherwood, to Scarborough Faire!

I was just reading through the ren magazine that had a story on scarby, Looks like it will be great. Now I just have to wait for the gates to open :) See you all there.
I recall walking through the gates at TRF and with in about 5 minutes a peace came over me and it felt like home. When I read that a faire was opening up outside of austin soon(sherwood forest faire) I about fell out of my chair, 45 minute drive means once its open I will be there every weekend. Have a great week everyone.

You will love Scarby, it is beautiful!  The landscape is wonderful, with bridges and creeks flowing through the grounds.  TRF is my home faire but I love getting to Scarby when time and funds allow!

Tis a wonderful and magical place! As our beloved King alluded to, it does have more of a "village" feel where TRF seems like a "world". I enjoy both, but Scarby is my favorite of all 12 different Faires I've attended. Scarborough Faire is friendly, fun and full of incredible memories for us. Enjoy and find some of us from R/F, most are friendly...except for this one Scot...

You will love it, I went for my first time so many years ago and got hooked I love it.

TRF is my home show but I love them both.

Scarby to me always has had more of the feeling of a village having it's faire/market day. It just seems to me that everyone seems to be more interactive with each other both cast and playtrons (even the danes) whereas TRF to me is like a great big Ren theme park with something for everyone.
