I am going to try and wrangle my friends out there who are contemplating being vendors out there.
Darn -- we have Astros tickets and will miss it.
I plan on being there! I have to leave before dark though. Drat!
Working on better weather spells for our gathering. It has been windy the last few times! We need 70 and sunny with only a light breeze!

please spread the word about the outing. we'd love to have some musicians entertain us all around the campfire at nite, as well. dancers are surely welcome. tribe is built from all of us bringing our respective gifts to the circle.
drummers, dancers, musicians, singers, storytellers...
and, of course, those who want to build the faire with us as vendors, playtrons, artisans and artists.
we need all of your creative spirits and energies.

by the next gathering on the 25th of april, we should have the outer fence constructed, a total of five smaller stages and one of the larger stages erected, the front gate up, and work on the 290 entrance begun.

I believe we agreed on the weekend earlier to discuss the participant/playtron camping areas on the week earlier, but I'll reschedule for the later date.
Once the layout is established, I need to inform the Playtron clans/groups to get their site builders onsite and get things going. If you have your layout for the Participant camping area, I'm sure we can get volunteers to clear the areas.

we are aware there are many conflicts and competing events on april 25th...and thats ok. go where your heart calls you. ours will be walking the grounds, communing with other vendors, rennies, and family, hopefully singing, drumming, and chatting around a fire of sorts.
we are very excited about the progress that has taken place since the last gathering.
we hope many of you will join us and lift a stein in cheer for the faire as it continues to unfold.

the fence is nearly finished
before the 25th,
the front gate will complete less the actual gates
six or seven stages erected
the US 290 entry to the campgrounds will have begun by this week's closure
the billboard may be up by next weekend--tho no promises
we will have more of the grounds marked off (not roped or constructed)

water line should be mapped out

more grounds preparations underway
ten to fifteen contracts out for vendors (two food vendors, games vendors, soothsayers, face painting, potters, and more)...while still awaiting the fifty of so who have said an application is forthcoming
the container is nearly completely loaded in bali with signs, wagons, wheelbarrows, a bar, pub tables and benches, statues, carvings, and more...and will hit the high seas in mid to late may for arrival in houston around the end of june.
we need folk in houston, austin, san antonio, dallas and corpus-victoria to help us distribute brochures and put up posters for the faire.
we need volunteers to help load brush in a chipper that will be on the site soon (smaller 6" chipper type).
we need volunteers to help us move logs around the various stages once the grounds preparations have finished in a month.
we need posting of sherwood forest faire on your various websites to help spread the word.
we need folk who are interested in volunteering to be be minstrels walking through the woods of sherwood, or fairies filling the grounds, to contact us (entertainment@swf-faire.com).
we need apprentice and journeyman acting company members to sign up.
we need your spirits and good cheer at our periodic outings on grounds.
we need your blessings, good thoughts and ideas to keep flowing our way.

Strange and beautiful noises are afoot in the forests of Sherwood.... Songs of night creatures whisper over the ripples of a nameless pond.... Odd flowers that cannot be found in any book are begining to open thier eyes.... Out of thier petals spring little people.... Boys and girls dressed in flower finery..... They dance about the toadstool rings and ride upon puddle jumping frogs..... But there are other noises... The howling of beasts....Somewhere between dispair and laughter.... Shadows against the full moon reveal the beasts to be half human... Crude clothing and cruder cutlery... The glowing eyes in darkness breathing chaos ....And yet another kind of sound.... A wagon wheel slowly squeaking barley up a winding path...Joining in the whiny conversation betwixt the miller and his beast... Glorifying god by taking his barley to a place where it may be made even better than He made it on the seventh day... Fire gently bubbling a pot of stew... The peircing PING of a smith at his anvil... The songs of children... Forest folk with thier habits and thier trades... Casting off the shrouds of Winter... Ready to make all the world alive again... To step out of antiquity and breath again... To dance with the living that would believe in these ghosts.... And to teach us what we have forgotten... To call us back to the moon... To the singing... to the dancing... To the dreaming.....

I am going to Scarby on Sat-( I found a ride!) so I will miss the April outing- but I will see you soon. I am spreading the word about Sherwood!
Rengypsy might I make a suggestion as to possibly putting up some indicators say 200-100 yards out from the turn, like maybe streamers on a stick so that when we are getting close to the turn off we know it is coming.
As someone has said, it is in a very fast part of the highway where the turn off is and is easy to miss. But if we had some sort of indicator we were close it would be easier to navigate the pending turn.
Has any clearing been done for the Participant and Playtron campgrounds?
Have you determined how you want to layout the campgrounds?
I can come out early Saturday with chainsaw, chain oil, gas, etc.
Unfortunately, my travel trailer is still tied up at Seawolf Park, so I can't stay overnight.
Do you have a bulldozer available for clearing the campgrounds?
i have the general land layout of the campgrounds. no bulldozer we can use. one on the grounds, but a private contractor's.
can meet you there as early as 11am saturday.

The construction over the past 2 months is quite impressive. Entrance gate looks great. Most of the border fence complete. Several stages almost close to completion. Vendors ready to start construction.
Saw Rengypsy's photos of the goodies being manufactured, along with his description of the other items.
I'll probably be back out in June, as May is taken up with my submarine veterans events. At that time, I may bring up my travel trailer and spend full weekends as the campground work may start then.

Well I am running a bit behind but here are my Scarby Photos from third Sunday. There is a long sequence from Birds of Prey requested by a child that surfs my website but is unable to go to faire.
There are also photos from this last Saturday at the Sherwood Forest grounds. Construction is proceeding apace there. Nearly all of the enclosing fence is finished and the front gates are complete. The next gathering will be in June as I understand it and the stones for the circle of the seven sisters should be on site by then. There is also a new Yahoo group for Sherwood playtrons up now so join. here is the link.

I fell ill on Saturday, and was not able to make it out there this time. But from Moon Dawg's pictures, ya'll have made so much progress in a month, how exciting. The fencing and front gates are impressive! You can see positive progress, Huzzah!
Wow! What a lot of progress! Sorry I missed the outing. I did talk to many people about Sherwood! There is quite a buzz going on about it at Scarby! Huzzah!

I know this faire will be great! All in Elgin are a buzz too! I talked with the Mayor and the head of the C.of C last Friday. I meet many people and happily tell all about the faire! It will be great for Elgin! Can I contain my excitement and enthusiasm until opening? I fear not! LOL!
Only a rennie will understand these. We christened the new front gates at Sherwood this night!
