Just got our crafters' packet in the mail confirming our contract for the year.
Looks like the Hall of Masters won't be fixed until 2010.
They are also going to try having optional crafters' coupon program on the MNRF website. Crafters who want to participate can submit information to MAF to have a down-loadable coupon on the MNRF website.
There's also some sort of program for local "young artists" that will be on but they aren't sure where it will be located.
Well at least they are going to fix the hall. Given the sad state some of the grounds/buildings were getting into I'd hope to see some re-investment. I would guess the lease situation made investment risky, now we know the future is secure for some time. I can't wait!
Fest signed a 10 year contract. However, given the speed and location of the quarry... I am operating on a 5-year plan.
I would not expect any rehabilitation unless something just happenned to fall down in another storm.
I am waiting on my contract packet, too. I doubt my area will be upgraded at all, unless I pay the cost for it and get an approval.
Actually it was a 15 years lease according an online announcement by Carr Hagerman in Feb 2008.
Fortunately, (or "un" -depending on how many years it means the blasting continues) with the economy and construction industry slow the demand for the rock should be down as well.
The other info in the packet included a calendar for some off-season weddings to be held on site, and a request to avoid making construction noise that would interfere with them, but no mention of restrictions yet about being on site due to blasting like we got just before the run last season.
Received my contract too. Did you see that they have updated the theme weekends on their website?
New this year is "Healthy Living" Sept. 26, 27.

Huh?
That's a theme?
For faire?
The website says something about 5 and 10 k run/walks and health fitness expo and "go Green" demos. Possibly a promotion thing MAF is being paid to do kind of like the ATV test rides last year outside the fence??
Anything to keep from having a piracy themed weekend. Sheesh. ::)
They were better off with "Big Bean Burrito Blowout" Weekend a couple years back.
I agree Jack, I agree! I wanna pirate weekend again!

We do that all the time. It's called the parade!
As far as the "go green" demos, fine! We'll get 'em good and seasick! That'll turn 'em green in a jiffy! :D
We can turn the 5k into a beer crawl then, start at Foaming and end there. ;D
So our pirate invasion this year will be the 26 & 27 of Sept....... :o ;D ;)
Might as well, since MAF can't seem to get their poop in a group.
I think I figured it out! This is just a dastardly way of telling people they're going to have to walk 5-10k from where they park to the front gate once the gravel pit tears up the main parking lot.... ;D :P
PFFfffttttttt....
There went me coffee!
Given how fat this country is, any business that supports a healthier lifestyle and tries to change in that direction will have my support.
Any joking on the matter from my end is purely in jest.
Woohoo Longbow competition, bocce ball tournament and spaghetti eating contest..this is gonna be a fun year!!!!
I want to have the 5k run right after the eating contest. That would be funny to watch!
It would certainly be one way for people to go "green"

I like Bacardi's idea of a 5k pub crawl. Last one with a working liver wins.

I am impressed yours is still working, mine stopped years ago... :o
That's just it; it doesn't. I had to contract its function out to a sweatshop somewhere in Lower Slobovia a few years back.
Well that makes sence then.......
That makes a lot of sense to me. Do all that can be done to have a pirate weekend no matter what.
Fig, you know that every weekend is a pirate weekend for me! ;D
They just posted a list of pre-Fest promotions and parades the cast is taking part in
http://www.renaissancefest.com/MRF/promotions.html
Jack: "It's 80 days to opening cannon. I've got my season pass, my Fest Friends membership, an empty flask, and we're wearing sunglasses."
Bacardi: "Hit it."
LRtheFOL!
I can just see you two idiots sitting in a cabriolet having this conversation.
Loved it!
I don't know if "Jack" and "Bacardi" would make a good mix...
The combination has been known to get people to drink more beer, oddly enough. ;)

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :-*
Indeed it does!!!
I am looking forward to the season.
And I do have a favor to ask of my fellow participants and attendees:
Let's go into all of this with an open mind and optimistic heart. We may not understand or agree with all decisions made, but like true Americans we can thrive in any rule set.
I know a couple folks in management. And I have to say that there is some real talent in there. I have no doubt that they are trying their best to make it a success, in their own way. I plan to work my arse off to make my mead booth a success in my own way!

Hey, if I'm getting started with the silliness this early, you know it's going to be one of
those seasons. ;D :D
Wild ride, anyone? A little mayhem, even? Holy schnikeys, Jack's wardrobe changed! [cue cheesy dramatic music from the 50's]

I think I'm getting a hangove just reading about it! :D
The only three reasons I would visit MN...and to see a talking Muffin, of course!

Awwh shucks...I didn't think you cared...what?...not me... :'(
;D
I should have amended that--to see all the MN people I have interacted with on the forum.
But I don't have a visual of your boots you. :D
Aye Wenchie seeing everyones boots faces would make it easier... :o ;)
So what weekend will you be up... ;D Blue is missing his perch. :o
Hey, I still have scratch marks on my....flask. Yeah, that's it. Flask.
And one of Blue's kids had the most spectacular incubator I've ever seen in my life. :o ;D
